Chapter 31 The Power Of The Bird
Chapter 31 The Power Of The Bird
"Why are you here?" She replied immediately to Lucas' answer.
No one had ever asked him that question before. He took two steps to the side and took in her expression. He looked her up and down, then replied, "It was an accident." He glanced at the bird.
"Accidents can't happen here, outside this village the system controls every single being, it's impossible. Who sent you here?" This old lady also seemed confused about Lucas' existence in this world.
"What was the name of your avatar?"
Lucas looked at her and moved his shoulders back and forth, "Izek3000," he murmured.
"What?" Marix asked, "stop mumbling and talk to me normally, I'm an old woman" She raised her eyebrows and the wrinkles on her forehead appeared like waves in the sea.
"My name is Izek3000," he repeated, a little louder this time.
He wasn't happy about this whole situation, he didn't even like her and wondered what Kali was doing outside this place, "I hope they treat her well.' He bit his lower lip.
"So history repeats itself, they want to repeat the same mistakes I see." Mirax lowered her head and began to walk in circles.
She took her hand off her chin and put it on her shoulder, "if the system gives you Renexa, that means they want you to follow Izek's steps again, but he broke the rules before, that's impossible." Now she was the one doing all the muttering.
"What else did the system give you?" She turned to Lucas to see his face.
"What do you mean?" Lucas shook his head and grimaced, trying to understand what she was talking about.
"The power and the abilities, no the abilities!" She raised her hand as if to make some kind of sign, "what kind of abilities did you get when you arrived here?"
"Hmm, abilities..." Lucas took his time with his answer.
This grandmother's behaviour was very suspicious at the moment, she seemed nervous somehow, it seemed to Lucas as if she was panicking right now.
"Confidence pills." He spoke softly.
"Speak up, I asked you to." Her tone was sharper than before.
"I was given trust pills as my ability." He returned her harsh remark with a grin on his face, making fun of the whole situation.
He found it funny.
"Those pills belong to Izek and are made from that bird's mana." Marix was shocked, she froze.
No more circling movements and no more muttering on her own.
In Lucas' eyes, it seemed as if time had stopped for a second, as both the bird and the old granny had decided to stop making sounds and body movements.
"If the system gave you its pills, that means you've something to do in this place and not his, but what if he comes back all the way?" There was a hysterical tone in her words, she started biting her nails.
One of her legs was shaking so badly that even Renexa averted her gaze from Lucas and turned to this woman.
"This can't be happening, Izek can't come back, ever." She began to walk in circles again.
"Look, Grandma, I don't mean to be rude, but what's going on here?" Lucas had to stop her crazy behaviour, he was tired and wanted to see Kali and this woman here wasn't helping him at all.
"But if we help you gather all his familiars and avatars then maybe Izek has a chance to come back, Renexa obeys you, we should start with this bird first." She sidestepped Lucas' question and spoke to herself.
That was the trigger for him, Lucas wanted answers.
"Hey, Grandma!" He shouted. "Answer me!" He added to his sentence.
"Renexa, we need to see if you can control the full power of Renexa, then Izek won't have a chance to come back and destroy everything here."
Lucas put his hand on his face and pressed on his eyes one more time. This old woman tired him even more than Haya had before, 'can not I just rest?' The pressure in his head left him exhausted.
"Look, can we stop this for today? I really do not have time." He spoke slowly, hoping she would understand.
Marix looked at him and finally noticed the dark circles under his eyes, he looked tired and exhausted. His posture was not stiff, but leaned to one side and let his eyes blink slowly.
"Okay, if you show me the power of this white bird, I will allow you to wash and rest, a promise from me."
Lucas did not want to believe that at first, but sleep and rest sounded like a dream in his eyes, "what about Kali?" He asked.
"She's already being treated well, there's no need to worry about her."
Lucas was too tired to doubt it out loud, deep down he did not believe her words, but the only way to prove it would be if he actually went and saw it for himself, but to do that he had to leave this room first.
"Okay, how do you want me to do that?" He finally agreed.
Marix's eyes sparkled like two jewels, an excited hand clap sounded from her at that moment, "Okay, let us get started."
"Hold your hand in front of this bird and ask it to speak to you, it will obey you, it will tell you what it can?" She bit her lips, and one of her legs was still trembling on the floor.
The signs of nervousness were all over her.
"If that's the only thing I have to do, then fine."
Lucas stretched his dirty, bloodied hand in front of the majestic white bird, closed his eyes and spoke, "Talk to me."
He did not feel like anything was happening again, so Lucas opened his eyes.
A sky-blue atmosphere lay in the middle of the room, no Marix was to be seen, only he and Renexa stood together looking at each other.
"You can only do this twice a month, ask your questions human."
A soft and tender voice came from this creature
Lucas took two steps back, surprised that this bird had just spoken, "How?" He shook his head in wonder.
"Your time is limited, since your mana is not yet developed, I would suggest you speak faster." She spoke softly again, but an arrogance in her tone was palpable even in Lucas' human world.
"Who... who exactly are you?" Lucas' voice trembled, he was still surprised to hear this creature speak.
"The protector of your soul, and only your soul."
"W-why my soul?" He stammered.
"Because I was created to obey only one being, and whoever invokes and controls my power, not the innocence of souls, I will always obey that person." Her answer came quickly.
Her voice sounded like that of a woman, a young woman, perhaps in her twenties.
"What can you do?" Lucas got straight to the point, without wasting time.
"I create wind from glass, the cry of my wings can make people deaf, and I can sacrifice my life for you. I am the strongest familiar in this place." She spoke softly.
"Then why is Izek your owner?" Lucas' question was insulting.
"Izek is not my owner, he stole my innocence and my power, it is not my fault." She closed her eyes and lowered her head a little, "Human, I will protect you to the end, you can call me anytime you are in danger, but remember I will absorb your mana."
"What happens if I run out of mana?" Lucas initiated another question.
"Then you will not be able to summon me and you will most likely die."
A horror ran through his insides and the bright blue sky disappeared in a second with her last sentence, he was back in that room with Marix.
"So, what did the creature say?" The old woman looked at him from the side for an answer.
"Th-that I am going to die ..."
"
