Chapter 1267 How a Mage Fights
Before the wolf could even swipe its paws at the one who trespassed its territory, Valyr's incantation finished first, allowing him to send a bolt of pure mana that swiftly clashed with one of the wolf's eyes.
Bang!
'-942!!'
"Awoooo!!!" Unsurprisingly, a wave of pain quickly radiated from where the wolf was hit, causing it to let out a pained howl as the strength behind the mana sent it flying in the air for a couple meters.
"Woah." Glancing at the blood red number that briefly appeared above the wolf's head, Valyr's eyes slightly widened in surprise before eventually nodding in approval.
"Considering the fact that there's a 20 level gap between us, and the fact that I've yet to level up my skills to max level…"
"That's a lot of damage."
Although [Mana Bolt] at Level 1 only allowed him to deal 150% of his INT-based Attack stat as damage, the fact that he almost had 300 points of the stat thanks to his weapon and armor still allowed it to remove a good chunk of the wolf's health even with the level gap.
Aside from that, another reason as to why such a simple attack was able to deal so much damage to the wolf was the fact that he had chanted an incantation first before casting a spell, which multiplicatively increased the damage coefficient of the spell by 25%.
Although spellcasting and incantation skills were picked up by the majority of people who used magic spells in their repertoire, almost all of the people who pick both up usually forgo the process of incantation when using them.
After all, even though chanting an incantation beforehand allowed a magic spell to become considerably more effective than it normally would, that would come at the cost of spending more time to cast the spell.
Because of that, almost no person that utilized magic would undergo the incantation process during fights, especially in fights where a single move could easily become the ultimate decider as to whether one lived or one died.
Then again, such a thought process only applied to those who tended to fight through close combat, only using magic every once in a while to catch their foes off guard.
On the other hand, for mages, who would usually leave it to tanks and warriors to fight against their foes in close combat, incantations were a key factor in allowing them to dish out more damage than they usually were capable of.
Adding on the fact that the effects of mana circuit skills also applied multiplicatively on top of incantations, it went without saying that highly-experienced mages were the nightmares of many people in battlefields, their long-range strikes more than capable of obliterating a massive group in one hit.

"I definitely made the right choice." Glancing at how much HP the wolf had left after taking that hit, Valyr faintly nodded as he began to prepare his second spell.
"This boss is pretty much the perfect target to find out my current level of strength."
"Awooo!!!" Getting back on its feet, the wolf now began to glare daggers at the young man, its current goal nothing more than to kill him.
Whoosh!
Making use of a skill that improved its movement, the wolf swiftly charged at Valyr before darting about in various directions, causing anyone looking at it to become confused as to where it would eventually end up.
Then again, with his perception, the young man was able to track the wolf's movements with ease, deciding to activate his mana circuit with the thought of increasing his firepower.
"[Three Revolutions, Nine Cycles]."
Swoosh!
At the very instant he activated the skill, Valyr immediately felt like the mana within his body had been set ablaze, briefly causing him to feel like he was burning up inside.
Though, not long after, this blazing mana soon began to cycle around his body, causing the burning feeling to subside as he felt that his mana had become more powerful and more malleable at the same time.
"Awoooo!!!" Feeling as if the young man had become distracted all of a sudden, the wolf took it as an opportunity to land a strike, stopping its movement skill before swiping down with its paws in a cross.
Whoosh!
Unfortunately for the wolf, Valyr remained aware of his surroundings, allowing him to dodge the attack with ease before sending back an attack of his own.
"May the power of flames hear my plea."
"As the conductor of flames, blaze my foe into ashes."
"[Fireball]."
Bang!
'-1,806!!'
With [Mana Bolt] still on cooldown, Valyr decided to use one of the elemental manipulation skills he had for a change, being reminded that he hadn't really used them much as an NPC aside from boosting his stats.
Unsurprisingly, with its strength bolstered by both an incantation and the mana circuit, the fireball was able to far more damage than the mana bolt did, rendering the wolf's remaining eye useless as it was sent flying in the air once more.
"Awoooo!!!"
With it having lost its sense of sight in just two attacks, it was only then did the wolf feel a bit of fear towards the one that trespassed into its territory.
After all, it had ruled the entire Verdant Woodlands for most of its life, having already killed all of the ones that could've impeded it from becoming the true ruler of the forest a long time ago.
Yet, just as it felt like submission to its foe was its best choice, the wolf soon felt a bit of indignation bubble up within it, reminding itself of the hardships it had gone through to get to its current point.
"Awwoooo!!!"
Betting it all on one final attack, the wolf let out a loud howl as it made use of the wind it controlled, having the wind act as its eyes in order to get a rough idea of where the young man was.
Then, once it felt confident enough that the young man wouldn't move, the wolf charged one last time, utilizing its movement skills to push its speed to its utmost limit.
Whoosh!
Continuing to feel the young man remain standing where it was, the wolf began to feel a hint of excitement as it infused a bit of its mana into its ultimate strike.
But before it could even land…
"May the power of mana hear my plea."
"As the conductor of mana… slay my foe."
"[Mana Blade]."
