Chapter 670: Chapter 670 - Solarion Prideborn
?
Northern Gate.
Charmelyn and Skywarden vs Marquis Orias.
Marquis Orias. This demon at first glance doesn't even seem like a demon. Picture this: a creature with the head of a lion, golden-red wings, golden-red armor, a halo floating above its head, and a magical staff in hand. It practically looks more like a celestial warrior than a demon.
But no, this is definitely a Named Demon. Among the four Named Demons currently present, Marquis Orias holds the lowest rank. Even so, its presence is intimidating-especially since it is a magic user and it can fly.
Seriously, why are all the Named Demons that keep appearing either capable of flying or ridiculously massive?
Every encounter has involved aerial opponents or towering giants. Fighting them is beyond exhausting; it's downright infuriating.
The reality is that for players, having the ability to fly is far from common. Only a handful of people can do it naturally, like Elincia, Or Kingsley who can transform into a flying beast. Others, like Livelywood, rely on elemental skills for boosted jumps, or like Goldrich, use hovering platforms, which still demand incredible mana control and mobility.
Then there are those who fly by partnering with their Spirit Beasts, such as Broken with Polly or Booba on his Wyvern. Without any of these options, dealing with airborne foes like Marquis Orias feels like an insurmountable challenge.
[Marquis Orias - Solarion Prideborn Lv. 262]
[Named Demon - Ranking 59]
Charmelyn and Skywarden finally closed the distance to The Demon, though their approach clearly drew skepticism from everyone watching. How in the world could Charmelyn, the assassin, or Skywarden, the tank, possibly stand a chance against Marquis Orias-a flying magic-user hovering well out of reach? Just how?
The two close-range fighters stood ready, preparing for a battle that seemed nearly impossible to win.
Unlike other demons, Marquis Orias wasn't one for excessive talk. He merely spun his magic staff in the air, and moments later, glowing magic circles appeared on the ground below.
From these circles emerged... something truly terrifying.
Spectral lions.
A pack of them. Their bodies looked as if they were formed from ash, with glimmering silver armor covering parts of their forms. Their manes flowed in an elegant motion, as if caught in an unnatural wind. One by one, the lions let out deep, guttural roars, a chilling sound that echoed like a hunt was about to begin.
Charmelyn tightened her grip on her dual daggers, while Skywarden raised his massive shield in front of him.
"A summoner, huh? Figures he's flying up there, keeping himself safe," Skywarden muttered.
Charmelyn nodded slightly, crouching in preparation for a sprint.
"I'll distract the lions. You take down that floating bastard," he said.
"Alright," Charmelyn replied simply.
Charmelyn darted forward in a rapid zigzag motion, moving from one point to another with remarkable speed. Skywarden followed close behind her.
With a powerful stomp of his shield onto the ground, Skywarden summoned an aura of protective energy that floated around the two of them.
The spectral lions began to close in, circling their prey. A few of them lunged, slamming into Skywarden with overwhelming force. He was sent skidding backward across the dirt, but his massive shield held firm, absorbing the brunt of the impact.
Skywarden got back to his feet and sprinted forward, purposefully drawing the attention of the spectral lions. There were ten of them-far too many for one man to handle alone-but he didn't falter. He kept running, occasionally stopping to brace himself against their relentless attacks with his shield.
Meanwhile, Charmelyn took advantage of the chaos. She would appear suddenly from the shadows, striking at one of the lions with her daggers. The spectral beasts howled in pain as her blades cut into them, but before they could retaliate, she vanished again, only to reappear from another direction moments later with another precise attack.
It was a relentless back-and-forth, but the battle had an ominous weight to it. They hadn't even reached the summoner yet, and already it felt like a fight they couldn't possibly win.
All eyes were glued to the battle on the ground, so no one noticed when, suddenly... Charmelyn leapt onto Skywarden's shield. In an instant, a burst of energy erupted, launching her into the air like a missile aimed directly at Marquis Orias!
"Oh, damn!" gasped those watching, their jaws dropping in disbelief.
Could something like this even be done? But wait-Charmelyn was just an assassin.
What could she possibly do in the air?
Surely, she'd just plummet back down after this reckless stunt!
As Charmelyn soared through the sky, she swung both of her hands with force. In a flash, another Charmelyn materialized mid-air, hurtling forward while the original Charmelyn
vanished.
"What the hell?!" someone muttered.
Marquis Orias, realizing the threat, darted higher into the air.
Then, without warning, there were dozens of her. No, hundreds. The sky filled with countless Charmelyns, all darting toward the demon in an overwhelming barrage. They struck one after the other, slashing at Marquis Orias with deadly efficiency.
Blow after blow landed, but the demon's magic shield flared to life, deflecting most of the attacks. Growling in frustration, Marquis Orias flapped his wings furiously, pushing himself farther away, retreating beyond Charmelyn's reach.
One of Charmelyn's copies sprinted forward and leapt over the others, propelling itself toward Marquis Orias with breakneck speed. In that instant, all her remaining copies
vanished.
She conjured a fresh wave of clones, each one diving toward the demon in unison, raining down a relentless barrage of slashes and strikes.
The assault was intense, but the copies couldn't withstand Orias's counterattacks. One by one, they shattered and dissolved into nothingness, leaving Charmelyn exposed.
Her balance broke, and she began to tumble uncontrollably toward the ground.
From below, Skywarden surged forward, shouldering his way through the pack of spectral
lions. Reaching her just in time, he raised his massive shield, intercepting her fall and bracing
her against its sturdy surface.
Charmelyn took a deep breath, her body steadying as she regained composure amidst the
storm of battle.
"Ready?" Skywarden grunted.
Without waiting for an answer, another massive surge of energy erupted from his shield. The force launched Charmelyn skyward with astonishing speed.
Twisting midair, she unleashed her signature acrobatics, flipping gracefully and summoning another wave of clones to propel herself forward. With precision, she hurtled toward Marquis Orias once more, her clones forming a dazzling formation around her as she closed the distance with the relentless demon.
It was nothing short of an insane performance, leaving everyone watching in awe. But this strategy wasn't sustainable.
As Charmelyn continued her relentless assaults in the air, the situation on the ground began to deteriorate. Skywarden, now overwhelmed, was struggling against the onslaught of spectral lions. The summoned beasts closed in, their sheer numbers and aggression making it nearly impossible for him to move freely.
The dilemma was clear: they needed to take out the spectral summons first. But doing so was pointless-Marquis Orias would simply call forth another wave. The real target was the demon himself, but he remained safely airborne, out of their reach.
They couldn't keep this up much longer. The fight was turning into a vicious cycle, and one
thing was obvious: they needed stronger players who could fight in the air. Without that, this
battle was a losing game.
[Ian_Deutsch]: "Skywarden out here saving the day. MVP move. Protect the queen!"
[EvilNCarnate]: "Marquis Orias probably thinking, 'How many of her are there?!" ["
[Taylor_Trout_0516]: "Charmelyn's clone game is next level. Acrobatics AND assault-she's
carrying this fight!"
[Darkstrider]: "Skywarden deserves a medal for that save. Someone get this man a coffee!"
