Chapter 93 Party's Status

Chapter 93 Party's Status

"Grandfather, it's not a strange god. This Sister Lidis was saved from hell by the God of Beauty... given the god's beauty, there's no doubt about it."

"Why would a God of Beauty fight? Wake up, Lidis."

"Sister Lidis has already awakened, Grandfather."

The Seventh Unit remains cheerful as always.

By the way, Summoner Penny is stationed in the city. Since she mainly handles communications, she only dispatches her summoned monsters.

There's no problem being this far away.

It's certain that she possesses unique summoning skills.

In fact, Penny, the summoner, is the most highly regarded in terms of ability among us. That's reassuring.

?

A young vampire soldier was falling apart.

Since becoming a vampire, the concept of "damage" has become almost irrelevant. No matter how severe the injury, it would heal in the blink of an eye.

That is, if it's nighttime.

But now, that theory had collapsed. It was midnight, with no moon in sight—a new moon's darkness should have been a paradise for vampires, but instead, it had turned into hell.

He couldn't regenerate.

His entire body was rotting away, turning into something like mud.

"What is this? Why doesn't it hurt... if anything, it feels good. What the hell!"

His body was melting, yet an ecstasy akin to being drugged was crawling over him. His mind was breaking. Each time his body melted, pleasure and delight filled his heart.

He couldn't even comprehend what was being done to him.

The vampire soldiers who had once slaughtered and drained humans of their blood were now pitifully crawling on the ground, on the verge of death.

But their faces showed only ecstasy.

"What kind of poison is this…"

In response to his murmured despair, a reply came.

It was the dainty voice of a girl. Yet the voice was devoid of color, retaining the cold detachment of an observer. She had no intention of helping him, nor even of killing him.

"It's not poison. It's a drug of evolution. Just like a caterpillar dissolves its body to turn into a butterfly, this drug artificially induces that transformation. According to the books, it's called 'metamorphosis.' Anyway, that's what this drug simulates."

"C-Can I recover?"

"You won't just recover; you'll become stronger. But… well, if you crush a chrysalis, it's just a corpse."

His eyes had already melted away. He couldn't understand where the voice was coming from. In the midst of his liquefying consciousness, only the sweet voice of the girl reached him.

"The compound drug is a success. It aimed at racial evolution, but this seems to be the limit of its replication... it's not even that useful as poison. It can only kill idiotic low-level trash. But poison's not really my specialty, anyway."

A glass bottle shattered.

? Elite Vampire Soldier

The vampire soldiers attacking from the south were facing an indescribably difficult battle.

Vampires are a powerful race. They possess overwhelming regenerative abilities and stats specialized in offensive power. Their race-specific skill, Vampire Factor, is incredibly formidable.

The weaknesses like being debilitated by sunlight or the inability to consume anything but human blood are minor compared to the overwhelming power of the vampire race.

Despite forming an army, the vampires faced an uncertain battle. In fact, they seemed to be losing. Up until now, there were no records of the vampire army engaging in organized military action under the name of Yoyo.

And there's a reason for that.

Vampires, as individuals, are overwhelmingly strong. But they are not creatures meant to fight in armies. When it comes to battles between organized armies, they lose to the High-Humans, who specialize in leadership and military tactics, making them extremely troublesome opponents.

The fact that the human-only nation of Albiut was the only one unaffected by time-space freezing is proof of the absurd strength of the High-Humans.

They may have pushed the assault too hard because they were eager to destroy a few more cities.

Around them, the ashes of their fallen comrades were piled up. Even those ashes were blown away by a wind magic user. Vampires don't even leave behind a corpse. As he trampled over the remaining ashes, an old elf took a step forward.

"Hohoho, we've been preparing our countermeasures against vampires for hundreds of years. I'm not weak enough to fall behind someone like you, who isn't even a key member of the enemy force."

"What're you bragging about, old man? We're here too, y'know."

"Heh, but it was Jack Jack who saw through the vampires' route. Even alone, he probably could have secured victory."

They were a mysterious trio. No, considering they were also possessed by spirits, you could say they were a group of six. The vampire unit of thirty had been reduced to ten in an instant.

"Are you already assuming victory?!"

He shouted.

They were underestimating an elite vampire. The difference in caliber between an ordinary vampire and an elite one is vast. The elite vampire closed the distance with the old man using the martial arts technique Rush-In.

He unleashed the martial arts move Nukite.

It was a simple attack. However, it was low-cost and could be used in rapid succession. Considering a vampire's stats, its increased penetration power made it akin to an instant death attack. If it pierced the heart, that is.

The old man couldn't even react.

Even if he counterattacked, the elite vampire's regeneration would kick in.

The elite vampire sneered. His lethal strike would connect!

But it didn't.

"Dodge, idiot," muttered the dwarf in exasperation.

"I don't make unnecessary movements. At my age, opportunities to preserve my strength are precious."

The elite vampire's Nukite had stopped at the old man's chest. There's no way it couldn't pierce through the old man's thin chest. Some kind of skill had been used.

The vampire linked into his martial arts reflexively.

Martial arts skills could be chained together in rapid succession. By combining numerous arts, one could maximize damage output without leaving any gaps.

"Strike! Brow Strike! Break Kick! Nukite! Dragon Punch! Small Hand Sweep!"

Within a second, he unleashed a barrage of destructive attacks.

But every single one was blocked by some kind of mysterious barrier. Just as the vampire was about to activate a dodge art, the old man's rapier pierced his chest.

The vampire laughed.

"Too soft! An elite vampire like me—"

"This is no rapier. It's a stake."

The vampire's eyes widened.

His strength drained away. His knees buckled. It was a holy attribute stake. The weapon the old man had been using earlier had changed without him realizing.

He had grown complacent, relying on the invincibility of being a vampire.

"Well then, time to wipe you all out."

A beautiful elf smiled elegantly. As he waved his short staff, a multitude of elemental spells were unleashed.

He wielded multiple magic attributes simultaneously.

By combining several types of magic, he used unknown attacks to mow down the remaining vampire soldiers.

A magical storm.

But the vampires were resilient. Despite the brutal onslaught that would kill an ordinary person, they managed to survive. Their race was specialized in endurance—that is what vampires were.

They had abandoned their humanity in exchange for supernatural power.

At this point, retreat was the only option. The elite vampire made this judgment, but when he saw the monster standing in his way, he gasped.

The dull voice of a gloomy young man murmured.

"... All they do is regenerate... If they don't have the terror of someone like Liora, it's no different from playing whack-a-mole."

There was a dragon.

A beautiful dragon with emerald scales. It had started off as a small dragon, the size of one that could sit on a shoulder, but in the next instant, a gigantic dragon appeared.

"Enlarge... perish."

The dragon opened its massive jaws—

??????

Since more allies have appeared suddenly, here is a brief introduction of them:

New Recruit

Zerak

A novice adventurer trained by Liora. He uses a sword. He's not particularly strong, but he admires Liora. He handles odd jobs. Even when Liora's training nearly killed him, he still didn't try to flee.

Old Strategist

Gano

One of the strategists from a certain city. During a court-martial, he caught Liora's attention and lowered his head to join Liora's forces. He can make good use of Liora's aggressiveness and skirmish tactics. His skills as a magician are decent, and he has no hesitation about sacrificing his own life, which is nearing its end. He's fond of new things.

His recent worries are that his granddaughter has started worshipping a strange god and that his skin has lost its luster.

Archer

Mya

An archer with B-rank skills. She provides long-range support for Liora. Her nature is more of a hunter than a warrior. She doesn't want to fight but enjoys taking down prey.

Cleric

Sister Liddis

A skilled female cleric who excels in healing. She is Gano's granddaughter.

She is a follower of an evil god. She was once a victim of Milim and Stark.

Communications Officer/Summoner

Penny

A communications specialist ranked at S-level in ability. She uses summoned creatures for reconnaissance and relaying information. She has little combat ability.

She has a strong desire to be used well by strong people and refuses to speak to anyone she doesn't recognize. She's extremely stubborn, and her overall rating, including her personality, is A-rank.

She volunteered to join this unit. She is currently in a distant city, surrounded by guards.
