This Beast-Tamer is a Little Strange

Chapter 322 Body Disposal

Chapter 322 Body Disposal

Kain didn't know if he should be disturbed or proud that he'd gotten so adept at butchering apart bodies for parts.

The blade in his hand moved with practiced efficiency, slicing cleanly through flesh and bone as he removed the guard's right hand and eye. His movements were deliberate and controlled, no hesitation slowing him as he completed this grim task.

'No different from obtaining spiritual materials from any other spiritual creature…' Kain thought with a dark sense of humour.

"Disgusting," Lina muttered, her voice strained as she turned away, pressing a hand to her mouth. She kept her distance, avoiding the metallic tang of blood in the air.

Serena, remaining composed, stood nearby and on guard of any other guards happening upon this scene her gaze sharp and unwavering. "Just make sure you don't damage the handprint,"

"I'm not an amateur," Kain replied curtly, rising to his feet with the severed parts in hand.

"Any ideas on how to dispose of the bodies?" Kain asked. None of his nor Serena's contracts quite had that skill. Now more than ever, Kain wished that he had a space-attribute spiritual creature like the captain's taotie.

And they couldn't exactly risk the attention destroying the bodies with fire would bring, it was easiest to stash them away somewhere. And unfortunately, due to their inexperience, all 3 of them had packed their space rings to the brim with all manner of supplies in case of an emergency. Therefore, there was no room for 2 large bodies unless they were willing to leave some of their materials in the hallway—which would defeat the purpose of covering their tracks.

Moreover, Kain had already told the others about his full space ring so he couldn't even stash the bodies in the System Laboratory, while pretending to put them in the ring.

Swallowing down the vomit that was about to rise up her throat, Lina shook her head "I have a contract that can swallow up a large volume, but it's an herbivore."

"Unfortunately, that doesn't help us Lina since these men are clearly not plants…wait will it eat mushrooms?"

Kain suddenly remembered the incubator in the System Laboratory where he'd stored all manner of microorganisms when entering a relic previously. One of the microorganisms he stored happened to be a fungus that would rapidly decompose flesh within seconds to quickly grow mushroom shoots.

Lina nodded hesitantly, "It's not his preferred meal, but he'll eat it…" Find more to read on empire

Receiving the confirmation, Kain immediately knelt next to the bodies and sprinkled a handful of the mushroom spores that were stored in the incubator onto the body, making it seem as though he was taking it out of his space ring to not raise any questions in the others.

Immediately upon the release of the spores, the air grew damp and earthy, carrying a faint, fungal scent as the first signs of activity began to stir.

From beneath the corpses, thin tendrils—mycelium—sprouted. They were pale white and delicate, quickly threading through the flesh like invasive roots. Within seconds, the threads thickened and multiplied, overtaking skin and muscle with alarming speed. Patches of the guards' uniforms tore as clusters of mushrooms burst forth—small at first, then swelling into vibrant caps of red, brown, and ghostly white.

The bodies shuddered as decomposition accelerated unnaturally. Skin shrivelled, collapsing into a papery layer that flaked away; muscle fibres dissolved into a viscous, blackened mush; even bones softened and cracked as the mycelium wrapped tightly around them, feeding voraciously.

Lina turned away, horrified, the nauseating sound of soft squelching and crunching filling the air. "You want my precious Silky to eat THAT?" she whispered, her voice shaky. Kain didn't even bother answering the obvious question.

Within less than a minute, the guards' bodies were completely gone, reduced to a sprawling carpet of plump mushrooms. Kain would actually be tempted to pick some to eat if he was in the wild and didn't know what they grew on.

Kain rose to his feet, brushing dust from his hands, "Call out your 'precious Silky' and let him know it's dinner time."

Lina nodded reluctantly and immediately summoned a fat white silkworm and conveyed her intentions to it.

Thankfully, unlike its owner, the worm didn't have any resistance to the free meal and put away all of the mushrooms in less than 30 seconds. What remained was a sterile tiled floor without even a speck of blood remaining. 'That's a heck of a way to clean up a crime scene…' Kain thought, making sure to keep this method in his back pocket.

With the matter of the dead bodies dealt with, Kain turned to the thick metal door blocking their path.

He placed the stolen key ring on the ring finger of the decapitated hand and stepped toward the biometric scanners embedded in the door's frame.

He read in the guards' memories that the security system checks for more than just physical matches. It looks for warmth, circulation, and even traces of living energy—likely to guard against situations like this. But this was nothing to Kain.

Summoning Queen, after transmitting his thoughts to her, she immediately radiated a soft, green glow that enveloped the hand and eye, and within moments, the hand and eye warmed slightly, their pallor replaced by a faint vitality.

At least temporarily, the hand and eye should read as being attached to a living person. But the effect won't last long.

Kain positioned the severed eye against the retinal scanner, after a tense pause, a beep rang out. Kain then pressed the warm guard's hand wearing the key ring against the scanner, and a soft beep signaled success.

The reinforced door hissed and slid open with a mechanical whir, revealing a shadowy staircase leading deeper into the facility.

"Let's move," Kain ordered, glancing back at the others. "No time to waste."

They descended quickly but made sure to keep their footsteps as silent as possible, Kain summoned some of the Vespid guards to fly in front and behind them to guard against any sudden attacks.

The staircase led them into a sprawling, dimly lit corridor with caged rooms lining both ends of the sterile hallway. However, all of the rooms they had passed so far appeared empty.

The way forward was led by the Vespids, however just as they passed one of the seemingly empty barred rooms, a razor-sharp claw reached through the bars and tore into Lina's side.
