Chapter 834
The large-scale life cycle magic circle.
This natural mana channel was an extraordinary structure that seemed like the combination of near-impossible coincidences. But Davey knew if this mana channel, which was created by a one-in-a-million—or rather, a one-in-a-billion chance—hadn’t formed, perhaps the continent of Peslisa wouldn’t have collapsed so completely.
“It sure is ironic.”
The very crisis threatening this world had now given birth to a solution for the other worlds. The Kings of the Fallen Ones, now nothing but mummified remains, had their divinity forcibly extracted and fed into the massive circulation system. Observing the proper formation and shifts, Davey now knew what exactly was happening.
“Rinne, can you tell what that is?”
Rinne, who had been playing around with a strange horn she had taken from one of the kings, came close. The horn likely belonged to the one that Rinne had chased, the one the Kings of the Fallen Ones called an apocalypse.
“Rinne evaluates that she lacks extensive knowledge of magical theory.”
“Just know that it’s something good.”
After checking what it was, Davey combined Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon without hesitation to form Super Ribbon, swinging through the rift.
Slash!!
“H-Huh? T-The rift!”
The rift had plagued the people of this place for so long. Davey knew this wasn’t the end of the rift itself, but at least the outpouring of divinity from the world could now be somewhat controlled.
“Is... Is this okay? Weren’t you looking for something there?”
“I’ve already memorized everything.”
The benefit of having perfect memory was that he remembered even the smallest detail clearly. Davey had fully memorized the layout and structure of the massive mana channel, including the smaller rifts connected to the larger one above. That complicated, labyrinth-like channel was fully imprinted in his mind.
Now, all Davey had to do was connect this channel to the center of Tionis and extend it across different dimensions before pouring Thanatos’ divinity into it.
However, he couldn’t use it right away. The channel was flawless—too flawless, in fact. He could tell that was why the catastrophe in Peslisa had occurred. If he used this same system in Tionis, it’d only cause a disaster on an even larger scale.
Davey had initially thought that the force from the Red Void had some effect on the whole situation, a contributing factor of some kind. But it turned out that the only thing flowing through the mana channel was pure vitality—nothing else. It was surprising that even the Red Void had such a vast amount of vitality, but that wasn’t important.
“I guess there’s no need to go to Atrellia now.”
He had been planning to investigate the Continent of Magic Atrellia, but with the jackpot he hit here in Peslisa, there was no need to waste time on it.
“Have you accomplished everything you wanted?” Holygon asked.
“It would appear so. There’s nothing left for me to do here.”
There truly was no reason to stay any longer—Davey had achieved everything he came for. With the obstacles out of the way, he joined the group in returning to the settlement.
Upon returning, Elder Schweitz offered his assistance to arrange for him to use a large research facility. Meanwhile, the story of the Kings of the Fallen Ones had stirred quite a reaction. Some refused to believe it, dismissing it as nonsense, while others claimed that the so-called kings were just Fallen Ones cosplaying royalty.
Of course, whatever they thought didn’t matter to him.
“Hm... The current composition makes the output lower and establishes a duration limit.”
Davey knew that even the slightest misstep while tweaking the intricate mana channel would cause issues all over the place. He had no choice but to proceed carefully. Over the past week, he had repeatedly installed and modified a new version of the mana channel in the open space—similar to the one he saw in the rift—while using Thanatos’ divinity to circulate it.
He had tried over a hundred configurations, but still hadn’t gotten the results he wanted.
“This is frustrating...”
The only ones capable of giving Davey advice on a magic circle this complex would’ve been the heroes from the hall, but he could no longer meet them. He had to figure this out on his own.
“Davey, here’s the mana circuit amplification device you requested,” Holygon said.
Every now and then, he would deliver materials Davey needed for his research.
It already took a great deal of time for Davey to analyze just the structure of the large red glowing mana channel floating in the air.
“Thank you. Please set it down over there.”
“Of course. Is there anything else I can do to assist...?”
“You don’t have to try to repay any favors. Just keep doing your usual work.”
“But as someone who’s been saved by you...”
“It’s fine.”
‘Honestly, it’s a bit annoying.’
Whether the people knew how Davey was feeling or not, rumors had begun circulating in the settlement that he might be the one to save them from their predicament. Some people didn’t seem happy about these rumors, but conflicts like this always existed wherever people were.
Beep... Beep!!
As Davey fiddled with the device that had large mana stones attached, he opened it up and began removing some components.
“D-Davey?!” Holygon stammered in alarm.
“I’m modifying it. Don’t worry, I’ll put everything back when I’m done.”
“Oh... Of course! You can use it however you like! But... Have you figured out how this thing works already? Isn't this your first time dealing with it?”
“High-level dispelling magic is harder than this.”
Holygon made a perplexed expression as he watched Davey nonchalantly dismantle the mana stones and alter the mana formula.
“Um... Davey, you said you were a mage, correct?”
“Yes.”
“Then... Why do you hide your mana?”
“Hide my mana?”
“Yes. I still can’t sense a trace of mana from your body. Even so... Both I and everyone else there saw the dense, overwhelming mana.”
Davey didn’t know why he was overreacting—he had only revealed a portion of his mana back then.
“I’ve never hid anything.”
Beep!!
As he connected the modified device to the magic circle, a massive reaction began to take place.
‘So, this was the issue.’
“You... never hid it?” he asked, confused.
“No.”
It didn’t make sense that even mages who were sensitive to mana, especially those at the 6th Circle or above, couldn’t sense any mana—unless there was no mana to sense at all.
“To be more precise...”
“To be precise?”
“It’s already spread out, and you just can’t feel it.”
He froze for a moment, then muttered with a pale expression.
“So it’s... too vast...”
“Something like that.”
“Unbelievable...”
As the man was busy watching Davey in disbelief, he checked the reactions from the device and continued to adjust the mana channel. He knew he just needed to complete it once—there was no room to hold back or avoid challenges.
“So... What circle mage are you, Davey?”
“Circle, huh?”
‘He’s asking me this now? Interesting...’
“Nine,” Davey replied.
He was technically a 9th Circle, but the circles he was working with now were something beyond just that.
Holygon stammered at his response.
“N-Nine? You mean... 9th Circle?”
“That’s what they usually call it, right?” Davey chuckled. Holygon then inaudibly murmured to himself, still in disbelief.
“Take a look. What do you think?”
“Huh?”
“This is a naturally-formed magic circle. It’s the same as the one that emerged from the Red Void.”
“...”
“But it’ll lead to huge problems if it’s left like this—much like the disaster that’s currently happening in Peslisa.”
“...”
“That’s why we need to change it. Can you think of anything we could do about it?”
He just shook his head.
“I don’t even understand what I’m looking at. I can’t read this at all. I can’t even fathom that this is a magic circle.”
Davey hadn’t expected to receive such a clueless answer.
“Sigh...”
He wondered if there really was no other way.
Then Holygon offered to bring whatever else he needed and left. Contrary to his tone of speech, Davey felt his gaze to be rather resentful, but then ignored it since it was insignificant.
Davey was a bit frustrated after trying over a hundred times without achieving his desired results. He wondered if this method was really the only way to find a solution.
The magic circle on the floor and the enormous, three-dimensional mana channel lay sprawled out on the floor. It looked like a massive stream of mana, but it was unmistakably a magic circle.
“Wow... It’s pretty!”
At that moment, Red Ribbon toddled over, holding Rinne’s hand, and gazed in awe at the setup.
“Did you have fun?” Davey asked while hugging her and playfully rubbing her cheek.
“Yep! I played with Rinne a lot! It was so fun!” she answered while smiling.
“That’s great. Daddy’s a little busy right now, so could you come back in a bit?”
Most kids would have thrown a tantrum, but Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon weren’t like other kids.
“Okay!”
Red Ribbon grinned and ran back to Rinne.
Both Elder Schweitz and the Tower Master had seen his research before, but even they struggled to recognize that his experiment was a magic circle. They accordingly weren’t able to offer much help.
Davey wondered what the issue was. He knew he was so close; he wasn’t going to give up just because he couldn’t seem to figure out the remaining puzzle.
He clenched his teeth and narrowed his eyes in concentration. Just then, he felt a tug on his sleeve.
“Blue Ribbon?”
“Daddy, Daddy... What are you doing?”
Davey chuckled as he looked down at Blue Ribbon, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“I’m making something amazing, but it’s not working out very well.”
“Wow... It’s so big!”
Her comment made him pause.
“Bigger than Blue Ribbon!”
It was only natural for her to respond like this—the labyrinthine magic circle was the size of a mansion.
“It’s like a giant maze! You could get lost in it!”
Suddenly, her words sparked an idea.
“Wait... Big...?” Davey quietly muttered to himself. He then widened his eyes at a sudden realization.
‘Could it be?’
He immediately began reshaping the entire magic circle. He twisted it, turning it into a massive, moon-like sphere.
And then...
“Oh... Well, I'll be damned.”
He scooped Blue Ribbon up into his arms, rubbing her cheeks affectionately.
“Blue Ribbon! You’re the best!”
“Mmm... D-Daddy...”
“Hmph. Me too! I want a hug too!” Red Ribbon shouted, pouting while Rinne looked on with a confused expression. Blue Ribbon, still unsure of what was happening, looked like she was about to cry in shock.
Davey smiled brightly despite himself.
He had finally understood why the problem kept happening.
The mana channel was too large to make the vitality travel within a given time frame.
‘In that case...’
“If it doesn’t work in three dimensions, I’ll just fold it.”
Without hesitation, Davey raised the massive magic circle and folded it, shaping it into a circle like a round moon shining in the sky.
Whmm!!!
The transformation began immediately.
Instead of a channel recklessly spewing massive amounts of energy, it became a perfectly balanced and functional magic circle.
“Kids really do see things differently from adults...” Davey chuckled, reaching out to activate the circle. But just then—
Whoosh! Boom!!
A black magic cannonball suddenly flew in, smashing the magic circle to pieces.
“Whose fuckin’ ass am I gonna have to kick?!”
Davey turned around to see five or six young mages with smug expressions standing behind him.
“We heard someone was doing some demonic research here, so we came to check it out.”
‘What the...?’
