Chapter 19.4 : Her Initiative
She had planned to hang up the phone directly after asking for the favor, but his reply made her pause for a moment. “Chen Shu... The drama I’m cast on is now showing. Would you like to watch it with me?”
Ye Sui and Chen Shu were living under the same roof. She felt necessary to try and get along with her husband. If he didn’t agree it was also fine with her, she was just asking, anyway.
“I will go home.” Chen Shu meant that he’d go home to watch it with her.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
–
Since Chen Shu wasn’t home yet, a few ghosts were lurking in the corners of the house. Even if there were only a few of them Ye Sui was still terrified. All she could do was use her acting skills to maintain a poker face and pretend that she didn’t see them.
For the first time since she moved in Ye Sui entered her husband’s study. Everything was very neatly arranged, without any clutter. She followed his instructions and found the computer on the bottom drawer. The color... wasn’t quite what she had expected.
To her astonishment, the computer was pink. Ye Sui stared at it some more. It completely deviated from the style of the rest of the study. She had already forgotten Chen Shu’s words stating that it had been bought for her.
Ye Sui placed the computer on the table, pulled the small stool from the corner of the room closer to the table and sat down.
Just as she opened the official drama website, Chen Shu came in. She gestured for him to hurry up. “Come in, hurry.” Chen Shu sat down beside her and quietly watched as Ye Sui set up the video.
She had only a few scenes and very few shots, but her acting was so good. Every second she was in front of the camera was excellent.
During the movie, neither Chen Shu nor Ye Sui spoke a word, but the atmosphere between them wasn’t embarrassed at all. They had been together for quite a while, Ye Sui was already used to Chen Shu’s personality.
The music became softer and the characters for ?Crown Prince? appeared on the screen, signaling the beginning of the movie. After it ended, Chen Shu surprised his wife by giving her his opinion. She was not prepared to receive an evaluation from him, she only wished to close the webpage.
“You did a good job.” Chen Shu paused for a moment before continuing. “Much better than the heroine.” Although his tone was bland, the content of his comment was especially satisfying to Ye Sui’s ear.
She knew that he knew the heroine Chang Ying was Chen Xiu’s girlfriend. But he didn’t even remember her name and directly gave Chang Ying a codename.
His praise made her speechless. Surely she didn’t hear it wrong? In her eyes, Chen Shu was a person who was clueless about amorous feelings. More often than not, whatever he said sounded unpleasant. She didn’t think she’d hear him praise anything, much less her.
Chen Shu stopped talking and just stared at his strange wife who lived under the same roof as him. Since he was in the mood to socialize, Ye Sui would humor him. “You certainly didn’t pay attention to the rumors online. Some time ago, I was targeted by netizens. Although I didn’t mind it very much, the crew helped me clarify everything.”
Ye Sui paused for a moment as if reminiscing. “Moreover, this kind of thing has happened to me more than once. The production team played it dumb and never helped me before, but they finally did their job this time.”
Chen Shu did not speak, he only listened to Ye Sui’s explanation. As he listened, the corners of his mouth rose up bit by bit. Because Huarui Company had pressured them, the cast had to tell the truth. Once the actors behaved like they were supposed to, Ye Sui was very happy.
While she spoke, her eyes shone brightly. It seemed like she truly did not let those setbacks affect her.
Chen Shu felt that his wife was fairly easy to satisfy. For Chen Shu, exerting a little pressure on the crew through Huarui Company took little effort, but it made his wife happy. He wondered if she ever cared about the injustice she suffered. Once Chen Shu thought of it, his brow wrinkled and he adopted a thoughtful expression.
Ye Sui had mentioned the crew’s change of attitude as a joke. She had no idea that the reason for the change was the order of the president of Huarui. If anyone from the crew were present at that moment, they’d want to cover Ye Sui’s mouth to stop her from speaking badly of them in front of her husband.
Everyone knew that pillow talk was the most useful.
Moreover, the pillow talk was so tight that she didn’t say a word about the cast’s shortcomings. In one sentence, it is not mentioned that the crew was not good, but Chen Shu wrote it down.
Seeing that there was no topic to talk about, Ye Sui pulled the laptop to the middle of the table and, pausing the movie at a scene. She told Chen Shu about the acting process, “This scene was extremely difficult to shoot. I cried for more than an hour until the director was satisfied. My eyes got swollen from so much crying.”
Suddenly, Ye Sui said that her mouth was dry, and Chen Shu bent down and opened the drawer next to him. She was curious but didn’t talk anymore, lest he reconsidered his actions. Her husband took out a bottle from the drawer. It was a beverage that Ye Sui had drunk before, soda with white peach flavor.
Chen Shu helped her open the lid of the bottle then placed it in front of Ye Sui. “Drink.”
Flattered that he’d remembered her favorite flavor, Ye Sui drank eagerly. The strong white peach taste and sweetness eased her thirst in a moment. Her mood instantly improved. “This is delicious...” She wanted to say thank you, but her husband chose that moment to say something inappropriate.
“I don’t like this drink. I bought it for you.”
Ye Sui reluctantly swallowed the mouthful of peach soda she had just drunk. Suddenly, it didn’t seem so tasty. The sweetness was gone and the soda bubbles made her nose ache. Thank you very much for such a generous gift of the drink you don’t like to drink.
Truly, she shouldn’t have expected anything less from Chen Shu. He still didn’t understand romance even one bit.
