Chapter 214: Offer (10)

The woman looked like she was in her twenties, but Luke could see the wisdom of many decades in her brown eyes. She had short black hair, and she also had small amounts of fur in the external parts of her body. She also had some animal-like ears and a tail that resembled a bear… Luke would have frowned in any other situation, but right at that moment, he was just ready to fight.

"These guys act all high and mighty, but they aren't exactly stupid…" Luke thought.

"You… where did you get that spear?" The woman asked.

Luke wondered for a second if answering: up from your ass was the appropriate thing to say. In the end, he decided to shut up… he didn't have to give a single answer to those assholes. Instead of that, he began to charge the spear with SP, and once he had used one hundred points, he swung it toward the enemy. A powerful and yet small shockwave flew toward the enemy. However, she dodged to the side with ease. The overlord's attack had been way faster than that… perhaps Luke used too little SP.

"The skill is the same… you really defeated him," The woman said. "You resemble the species of that new blue planet, even if you didn't do it alone… but…"

Luke glared at the woman and prepared to use a lot more stamina than before, but Richter stopped him. It seemed that he learned one thing or two in the fight he had with her, even though he didn't even scratch her.

"She can read our movements… apparently, by feeling small vibrations in the air, he can react to our attacks," Richter said.

"You don't seem like the analytical type. Did your shadow say that?" Luke asked.

"We will have to attack her from all directions…" Richter said.

That was a bit difficult considering that she could fly. Besides, it seemed that wind magic was her specialty. Considering that, then long-ranged attacks won't do any good. She could create craters with her wind magic, after all. Only close range and physical attacks will work.

"Drop your weapons and let's talk a little," The woman said. "I thought that the people of this planet wouldn't live for long, but it seems that all of you have some potential. Cooperate with us to defeat our enemies. That will benefit you all as well."

Luke frowned when he heard that, but it seemed like a good chance to prepare an even bigger attack. Regardless, Luke could tell that everyone was confused, not only because of the offer but because they knew that she had gone easy on them.

"We have some of your friends with us," the woman said while everyone hesitated. "Around fifteen hundred elves are under our custody. Although the initial number was supposed to be two times that, we didn't have the time to get them before our enemies."

That seemed too good to be true. The other overlord confirmed that the elves that they found had been exterminated… then again, that doesn't mean that they found all of them.

"What should we do, Luke?" Amanda asked.

Luke didn't have an answer for that. While he was thinking about the possibilities, the woman raised her right arm, and all the chimeras stopped moving. It wasn't like that would change anything, but it certainly was a sign of sincerity.

"If you help us defeat our enemies, or at least make them abandon this world, then we will leave as well," The woman said. "However, we will want half of the magic resources of that grove."

"That seems too good to be true," Luke said. "How can I know that you aren't only buying time for your friends to come?"

"They won't abandon their posts. It is too dangerous to give to the enemies the room to move forward," The woman said. "If you are unsure about this, I can give the order for my subordinates to bring my fortress, and then you will find a part of the elves. Just say the word."

"…What do you think, Rina?" Luke asked. "We are talking about your people here… it is your choice."

"… If that is true, then you will have to show us that this isn't a trap," Rina said. "Stop flying and make your fortress land."

"Sure thing," The woman said and then landed. "Don't try to do anything suspicious, though. It will be better if we stay on our toes for a while longer."

Luke and the others nodded. After that, the woman closed her eyes for a while, and then the moving fortress began to slowly lose altitude. Until it landed, it took a few minutes, but some figured began to leave the fortress.

"While we took custody of them, our resources are limited," The woman explained. "So, they helped us with some miscellaneous tasks."

Eventually, those figures approached, and then Luke's group could see them perfectly now. As usual, they showed confusion, but then they found Rina and bet their knee with all of their might. They were the real deal…

"My name is Cresta, and I am part of a group that antagonizes some world invaders," Cresta explained.

"Why are you different from the others?" Rina asked. "You came to this world also looking for resources."

"Because some of us already experienced annihilation, having our homes being invaded and losing many people on our side," Cresta said. "We still those who survive and decide to fight back are a minority, so we need everything possible to help us. Besides, letting those resources fall on the wrong hands also puts us in a bad spot."

It seemed that, for the time being, the battle came to an end sooner than everyone had predicted.. It was a pity that they lost some elves during that battle, and it was also a pity that Luke won't be able to claim the rewards of the quests, but it couldn't be helped.
