Chapter 199: Groups (3)
Luke soon recovered his sword, but the enemy got up even faster than that. His face was completely swollen, and the composure in his eyes had long vanished. There was only hatred there… it was one of the enemies where the wounded animal was even more dangerous.
"You should have smashed his hands before you recovered your sword or cut off his fingers…" Shalia said.
After calmly saying something that even made Luke sweat cold, Shalia fired some Fire Arrows toward the elf. It was clear that he didn't have a high resistance against fire, but that was more or less true for all living beings. While slowly stepping back, the elf used his bow and repelled the attacks with soundwaves. It was clear that the last combo of attacks made a lot of damage pile up, so he could only retreat and slowly recover.
"I must say that you caused me a lot of trouble… still, you don't have many skills, so once your main method of attack is sealed, you become essentially a lot weaker," Luke said. "Surrender now or prepare to fight… wait, this isn't the right time to say that. Surrender and tell me everything you know and who you are working with, and then I will spare you."
"Luke… you are being too lenient here," Shalia said.
"I can't get information from a corpse, and Rina won't approve me torturing a brethren of her," Luke said. "I can always ignore her and do Anyway, but that will put our group in a complicated spot."
That was disappointing for Shalia, but she knew that Luke was a guy who valued both of their friendships. Both of them come with merits and demerits, but Luke never complained since he was being helped and helping as well. Besides, he knew that he was quite a handful as well. So he could only endure the downsides of both girls.
"Stalling for time won't do you any good… we will recover at the same rate, and things will only repeat themselves," Luke said.
Unfortunately, Luke didn't get an answer. The elf only glared at him viciously. He sure was thinking that his way was the only way for the people of his world to be saved… in the end, their goals were the same. Still, their methods were different, that was why Luke wanted to spare him, but he wasn't that patient against stubborn people…
"Well… I tried," Luke said and then held his sword firmly.
Luke used Sonic Blade several times, and the elf used his bow to block them instead of normal attacks. Luke didn't know why he was doing that, but it didn't matter all that much. He dashed toward him while using Flamethrower, and the elf didn't have any other choice but fire his sound wave projectiles to repel the flames. That worked for a while, but eventually, all the heat raised a lot of steam that blinded him. After all, an archer without vision was almost the same as an archer without ammo.
The left was surprised when he got kicked on his left side, the side where his leg was hurt, and he was sent flying until he landed on a wall. When he fell on the ground, he saw Luke preparing to finish him off, and he raised his bow to attack, but he wouldn't be fast enough…
"Luke! Stop!" Rina shouted when she arrived and saw the scene.
In the end, Luke landed, and his sword stopped a few centimeters away from the elf's face. He clicked his tongue since he was too soft and always tried too hard to stay on his friends' good side. However, that came with a cost… the elf didn't stop his attack, and he fired a projectile toward Luke's right eye. In the next moment, Luke felt a sharp pain in his head as his eyeball exploded.
"You are too soft… you will never protect any world with that attitude," the elf said.
"I always knew that… but at least I had to try," Luke said and then let his sword fall and pierce the enemy's throat.
You completed a quest.
You learned the skill Hoar.
By shouting as loudly as possible, it grants you the power to stun the enemies. The closer they are, the longer they will be stunned. The physical defenses and the level of the targets can also decrease or increase the duration of the stun.
Cost: 10 SP per level.
You obtained 425.000 points of experience.
You obtained 155 000 gold coins.
… you have leveled up.
You obtained 65 status points.
Luke's body healed several times, but his left eye wasn't restored. He finally learned the limitations of the level up, and while that was a bit dreadful, he had to pay the price. Or so he thought…
"… I am Sorry, Luke… I messed up again," Rina said with her head down and showing an extreme expression of regret. "Let me heal your eye, it will take a while, but I can restore it."
"Well, as long as you understand that…" Luke said and then sat on the ground.
Things got really quiet for a while. Rina couldn't say anything since she admitted that her mistake almost cost Luke's life and hers, for that matter. However, both of them knew that the green-haired elf had the chance to kill him, but he didn't. Was it because he knew that Rina would die as well, or had he run out of juice?
"How are things outside?" Luke asked.
"Most of your skeletons perished, but they gave me the time to dispel the brainwashing on everyone… " Rina replied. "I thought he had died with my parents…"
"Did you know this guy?" Luke asked.
"We have never seen an elf with green hair… so he was abandoned after his birth," Rina replied.. "My parents raised him and became close friends… he survived the attack of the fire overlord and decided to find another path for this world."
