Chapter 120: Queen (2)
The elves of Rina’s world lived in harmony with nature, and in their history of thousands of years, they didn’t have to deal with many conflicts. They never experienced wars, but they were good at supporting magic and on the use of many types of weapons. While Rina was considered to be royalty, her family didn’t rule over the others. In fact, they lived away from most of the other tribes of elves because they were hard to deal with their overly respectful attitude and treating her family as if they were gods themselves. They were just direct descendants of a tribe that helped the others become more used to the practice of magic.
Nineteen years ago, Rina was born as the sole daughter of the supposed king and queen of the elves. Her talent with magic surpassed all the other generations. Still, her skills were necessary since they lived in peace… but then four years ago, monsters known as zombies began to appear alongside other types of other violent creatures, and her power began to become useful… It was almost like she had been born with that talent to help her people in that kind of situation. Her family lived in isolation, but they joined their other tribes to fight the threat. While she was good at magic, she was clumsy when it came to fighting and made many mistakes out of fear. Thanks to the sacrifices of others, she survived and learned how to fight. Thanks to that, the elves began to win the war. However, one of the enemies launched an all-out attack on their base and killed everyone there. Rina’s parents were there and were killed… Thus making Rina the queen. Although it was never made official since she and the survivors began to work on the preparations to go for other words and help people while they look for allies.
“That is basically what happened to me…” Rina said. “After not long after, I found you and her and started to work together.”
“I see… thank you for informing us of that, Your Grace,” Luke said.
“I told you to stop with that already…” Rina said while massaging her eyebrows.
“You have quite the group there,” A blonde woman armed with a whip said. “By the way, thank you for helping us. We would be done without your help. My name is Jennifer, but my friends call me Jenny..”
“Mine is Luke,” Luke said. “Anyway, Jennifer… you sure lured quite the crowd of monsters, considering that you were having a hard time with a few dozens of them. That is weird, don’t you think?”
The elves in her group were looking at Luke while furrowing their eyebrows. As expected, they didn’t like the fact that Luke was making fun of their queen, even if he didn’t have any ill intentions behind that… the fact that he was ignoring Jeniffer’s friendly attitude was also annoying for them.
“Well, you see… some of our friends are trapped in a nearby building near the crystal is, and when we tried to approach, those monsters chased us out,” Jennifer said.
“I see… Well, I wish you good luck,” Luke said and then jumped on Artiuno’s back. “Hasta luego.”
Before anyone could try to stop him, Luke left. His goal was basically the same as theirs, but he would instead work alone than stay close to Rina’s fanboys. Besides, it would be better not to reveal even a single piece of information about his goals. He tried to do that before, but it didn’t work for other reasons.
“After all that shame that I had to endure, and you still want to work without them?” Rina asked.
“Well, I would rather watch them from a distance and decide later if I will take them to the military base,” Luke replied. “Besides, they might want to leave the city once they achieve their goal, so helping them might become a waste of time.”
“That is just like you, I guess,” Rina shrugged.
“Anyway, those monsters stand out… so I wonder how Frank’s surveillance network didn’t spot them,” Luke said while they were crossing the city.
Unlike most of the cities, the place looked fairly in order despite the numbers of destroyed and upside-down vehicles. Probably because the Cursed Staurs didn’t have elemental attacks that could spread in an area and cause even more destruction, their charge could knock down concrete poles and walls, though.
In any case, Luke flew around the city for a while and confirmed that their numbers were a few thousand. However, against someone that could attack from above, they are pretty much a bunch of small fries. Luke just had to be careful on their Gravity Sphere, their effects last for ten seconds, and they can make the bodies of those hit before eight times heavier at their current level. Artiuno was pretty big so hitting her wasn’t impossible for the Cursed horses.
As usual, Luke found the crystal in the center of the city, and also, as usual, hundreds of enemies were protecting it. While they weren’t cautions of enemies in the air, something as big as Artiuno was bound to be noticed when she approached.
“Attack from above, and my Fire Tornado will wipe them out and keep them away from you as well,” Shalia said.
That was one option, but relying on Shalia would be too easy. Again, Luke had to get used to those kinds of situations to build experience. If he was going to help them in their world, he had to get more experienced… he was caught off guard the previous day because he didn’t assume that the enemies had such a card on their hands. What caused that was his lack of experience…
“Thanks, but I will deal with this,” Luke declared.
Luke created a plan in his head, but there was a problem with that. However, another idea came to mind, and that would definitely work… even though it was a bit dangerous.
