Chapter 644: Chapter 515: Signs Before the Mo Ye Mutation (Part 2)

Chu Mu had been unconscious at the time, so he wasn’t aware of any unusual conditions occurring with Mo Ye.

“Mo Ye, come here.” Chu Mu called the lively Mo Ye over to his side.

Little Mo Ye wagged its tail, it jumped nimbly into Chu Mu’s arms, its fluffy body purposefully rubbing against Chu Mu’s cheeks…

“Are you about to mutate soon?” Chu Mu asked, stroking Little Mo Ye’s ear.

According to Chu Mu’s estimation, Mo Ye’s mutation should not be far off, after all, the last mutation was in Jia City, which was several years ago!

“Wuuuuu~~~~~~~”

Mo Ye let out a delicate call, looking at Chu Mu in confusion.

“That day when Zhan Ye broke out, the Fox Elder said your mental state was very strange?” Chu Mu asked.

“Wuuuuu~~~~~~~” Mo Ye communicated with Chu Mu through its soul sense.

Mo Ye informed Chu Mu that when Zhan Ye fell into the abyss, it indeed felt some changes in its body, which were somewhat similar to the situation during its early mutation.

At the time, when Zhan Ye made the sacrifice, Mo Ye’s emotional fluctuation was extremely huge. It even strongly forced itself to mutate, because only through mutation could it possibly defeat the Ten-Thousand-Legged Centipede and save Zhan Ye.

However, Mo Ye didn’t succeed in its mutation at that time, because just when it was about to reach the threshold of mutation, it suddenly felt a mental suppression.

“So, you’re saying that you felt the sensation of mutation, but it didn’t succeed?” Chu Mu asked with some surprise.

“Wuuuu~~~” Mo Ye indicated that it didn’t know the reason itself. It seemed that certain conditions weren’t met.

Chu Mu knew that Mo Ye’s next mutation has a chance of advancing to the Peak Monarch or even the Quasi-Emperor rank. Therefore, if Mo Ye has shown signs of mutation recently, then it’s indeed a matter that’s very exciting for Chu Mu.

If Mo Ye were to mutate, then Chu Mu would absolutely dare to enter the Tenth Realm and compete with the Puppet girl defector!

However, the failure of the mutation was the troubling part for Chu Mu.

Mo Ye’s mutations usually came from itself, its previous mutations, the first time was under the stimulus of a powerful enemy, Mo Ye transformed into the Evil Flame Six-Tailed Demon Fox.

The second mutation was in Jia City, after Mo Ye’s six tails were severed by ice, it severely provoked Mo Ye’s dignity, plus the accumulation of original power, it broke through Mo Ye’s Perfect War General Level limit, reaching the Perfect Commander Level, and its strength was even able to contend with Monarchs.

Moving forward, battles became more frequent, Chu Mu had always been expecting Mo Ye to mutate again, especially in World City where enemies were abound.

And recently, Mo Ye’s state has been somewhat abnormal, especially after the Seventh Realm, Mo Ye should have realized that its Combat Power at the Intermediate Monarch Level couldn’t truly oppose the enemies, it tried to mutate…

But, why did it fail?

Previously Mo Ye’s mutations had never failed, it was generally stimulated into mutation, its soul would change, and then undergo the Race Mutation that uplifted its strength, it never experienced the sub-mutation situation like last time in the Centipede Abyss.

“Young Master, do you have any doubts?” The Fox Elder, hidden in Chu Mu’s Space Ring, asked.

“Yeah.” Chu Mu nodded.

Chu Mu hadn’t told Fox Elder about Mo Ye’s repeated mutations. Chu Mu was hesitating whether to speak about this or not.

“There’s nothing that this Old Li doesn’t know!” Fox Elder’s voice carried a somewhat arrogant laughter.

“How much do you know about Race Mutation?” Chu Mu asked.

“Well…Master, you really know how to find questions, always asking these normal people wouldn’t be able to answer.” Fox Elder said with a wry smile.

“Let’s hear it.” Chu Mu said.

“Race Mutation, a very low probability, usually occurs to soul pets with extraordinary talents. This so-called extraordinary talent means the attack level often exceeds the normal upgrade level of its race. Some scholars have joked that soul pets with mutated bloodlines are actually creatures that have been born into the wrong body. Although this statement is a joke, it does carry some philosophical truth, because soul pets with mutated bloodlines often have talents much higher than their race, if they changed to another body, they’re more or less another higher grade creature.”

“Each species has its own certain limitations, for instance, no matter how much you strengthen a servant-level creature, it’s impossible to elevate its combat level to that of an emperor level. Only through racial mutation can we truly break the boundaries set by the Tower of Life,” the Fox Elder continued yet another soliloquy.

“What’s the Tower of Life?” Chu Mu questioned in confusion.

“The Tower of Life is an invisible yet always present concept, a rule of nature. All beings must follow this law of life.”

“This rule of life exists in the form of a tower, from bottom to top. The bottom-most are what you humans call animals or small beings without much combat power. In reality, they do possess combat power, but it’s too weak to be noticed by humans.”

“They are the lowest-level creatures, yet their numbers are massive and endless. Moving one level up, there are the servant-level creatures that have combat power.”

“Servant-level creatures comprise the most significant portion of the world’s species. Thousands of years of human civilization may have already recorded up to seven digits’ worth of servant-level species… remember, this seven digits is a number of species! Often, a single servant-level species can have hundreds of millions of individuals!”

“The servant level may be the weakest tier, but they play the most important role in the long river of life’s history. As those so-called warrior level, commander level, monarch level and even emperor level, most of them have evolved from a particular individual within these millions of servant-level species over countless eras,” the Fox Elder explained.

Chu Mu was taken aback by these words, expressing his surprise, “So the levels above the servant level all evolved from servant-level soul pets?”

“Yes, a vast majority of them did. The emergence of the warrior level is due to certain extremely individual soul pets with very unique constitutions among the large groups of servant-level creatures. These are the creatures said to hold mutant bloodlines!”

“It’s these creatures that mutated from the servant level to the warrior level. Soul pets within the same race can reproduce; once a warrior-level soul pet appears, it is destined to be the king of its race. You should understand the principle of survival of the fittest. As long as there are a few special cases, with countless years following that, the warrior level too will become a massive life system.”

“Once the warrior-level soul pets form a huge system, there will always be an extreme few that undergo racial mutation… And thus, commander-level soul pets appear. The same logic applies to the following monarch level, emperor level,” said the Fox Elder, stroking his beard with a triumphant flair.

“The higher the level, the stronger they are after birth, which means they are more suited to survive in this world. So wouldn’t the servant level become extinct?” Chu Mu asked.

“That’s where you’re wrong. The Tower of Life created this level system and allowed mutations to occur, so there must be restraining conditions. No creature is perfect. I can responsibly tell you that an emperor-level soul pet may not necessarily be a match for a servant-level soul pet,” said the Fox Elder.

Emperor-level soul pets can’t compete with servant-level ones?

That seemed to go against all common sense!

“Did you get your words mixed up?” Chu Mu reminded the Fox Elder.

“Not at all. Many times, humans only see individual soul pets, because they can only own individual ones. But if you look at the entire Tower of Life, if all servant-level soul pets were to fight against high-level soul pets, the ones to lose would definitely be the emperor-level soul pets,” said the Fox Elder, noticing Chu Mu’s slightly puzzled expression.

“There’s another rule, which is the reproduction rate. The emperor level holds destructive power and could wipe out tens of thousands of lives with its strength. But they face serious limitations on their reproductive abilities. Suppose 100 million servant-level creatures are equivalent to one emperor-level creature. Do you think it’s more likely for 100 million servant-level creatures to emerge or for an emperor-level soul pet to appear? In any given region, the servant-level lives already approach 100 million. There is no way every region can have an emperor-level soul pet, right?” the Fox Elder said.

“I’ve never really considered such a macro perspective. However, the fact that mutation laid the foundation for the entire soul pet system caught me by surprise,” Chu Mu admitted.

Suddenly, something occurred to Chu Mu, “Wait, what about situations like that of the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon…”

“That’s split reproduction. The offspring from a split are one level weaker than the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon itself. As the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon is a destiny creature, I’ll explain the concept of a destiny creature to you later. Creatures like the Mother of a Hundred in the Insect species, Magic Ant Clan, and Evil Bee Clan are all examples of split reproduction,” explained the Fox Elder.

“Okay, let’s return to the topic. What I want to know now are the possible limiting conditions for a soul pet with a mutant bloodline,” Chu Mu was most keen on finding out how to cause a mutation in Mo Ye.

Whereas the grand view of the world and the so-called Tower of Life that the Fox Elder talked about felt rather intangible and distant for Chu Mu, who was also living in the vast Tower of Life.

“The most important thing is to have a mutant bloodline. Generally, satisfying this condition would be enough to trigger mutation,” said Fox Elder.

“So, assuming I have a soul pet with a mutant bloodline, and it’s currently at a stage where a mutation could happen, what should I do?” asked Chu Mu.

“That’s simple, fight. The moment that the soul pet realizes its lack of strength during a battle and has an urgent need to increase its power, and its soul and heart are shaken, is when a mutation is most likely to occur…

“Of course, if your own level is too low, the soul pet won’t be able to mutate. The soul contract will hold back a soul pet ready to mutate, stopping it from becoming too powerful and causing a mental shock to the master.”

After Fox Elder finished talking, Chu Mu’s face suddenly changed!

At this moment, Chu Mu had a sudden realization:

Mo Ye’s mutation failed precisely because his Soul Sense was too low!
