Chapter 494: 488 Our Place
Domestic airports are much stricter than those overseas. At international airports, you can arrange for a landing just by making a call in advance, so Finn Lewis is not worried. Moreover, Finn has long had an agreement with Darwin Port’s airport, so he is assured of a place to land.
Once on the plane, with Sarah Wood, the glaring third wheel, gone, Finn naturally ended up sharing a suite with Kay Lee. That’s all they did-shelter under the same roof. Finn didn’t make any moves. Kay has been visibly upset these past few days and hasn’t been sleeping well at night. With the events of that day still haunting her in nightmares, Finn didn’t do anything. Even though it was frustrating, he offered only a warm embrace. Watching her sleep peacefully in his arms, her furrowed brow finally relaxed, Finn’s mood became a lot calmer.
Finn suddenly felt that perhaps Kay would be his emotional anchor for the rest of his life. Everyone needs one. Parents age, children grow up, perhaps only your partner is the one constant companion in your life.
When the plane landed at Darwin Port, the sun had just begun to rise. The vibration from the landing woke Kay from her sleep in Finn’s arms. In order to let Kay sleep comfortably, the T800 plane had made several spiraling descents before finally descending.
“Awake?” Finn asked with a smile.
“Ah, we’ve landed already. Why didn’t you wake me up?” Kay responded, slightly blushing.
“You were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to disturb you. You haven’t been sleeping well these days, have you?” Finn reached over to ruffle Kay’s tousled hair.
“Yes, I slept really well last night. I love sleeping in your arms.” Kay raised her head and kissed Finn lightly.
“Wow, that’s great to hear. I hate sleeping alone.” Finn laughed as he touched Kay’s face. Kay blushed for some reason and sat up in bed very rapidly, “I am going to freshen up a bit. We’ve arrived at our destination.”
“Go ahead.” Finn also chuckled and got up from the bed.
Finn had had a good sleep last night too. Even though he was uncomfortable at first, he eventually fell asleep. It’s hard to describe that feeling – it was as if he was holding the most valuable treasure in the world. Nothing else seemed to matter then, it was just warmth and peace.
By the time the plane came to a standstill on the dedicated apron, Finn and Kay had both freshened up. Outside, the fleet of cars that Henry Lewis had sent had already arrived. As they were about to disembark, Finn said to the stewardess, “You girls go enjoy yourselves. I know you’ve been here before but haven’t had the chance to tour the place. It’s not big, but there are quite a few sights to see. We might stay here for a few days. If we decide to leave, we’ll call you in advance.”
“Thank you, Master.” The stewardess cheered and then bowed to express her gratitude. They all understood that Finn’s words meant that they could use the company’s credit card for their tour, but they were smart. Though they were allowed the liberty, they only spent money on necessary expenses like food and hotel stay, hardly buying anything.
This is why Finn was very satisfied with these girls. They knew their boundaries and the limits to their expenses. Although Finn didn’t care much about the money, when they understand this on their own, his mood becomes much lighter.
Once they got off the plane, Henry Lewis himself came to receive them. Seeing Finn and Kay, Henry immediately bent down to greet them, “Young master, young lady.” Henry’s words brought a blush to Kay’s face. Even though she knew that people around Finn called him ‘young master’, this was the first time someone called her ‘young lady’. Furthermore, the person addressing her was quite older than her.
“Hello, there’s no need to be so formal.” Kay replied.
“Alright then, we’re all family here. No need for formalities. This is Henry. You’ll get to know him in a bit. Right now, let’s keep it a surprise. Let’s go, Henry.” Finn said, laughing.
“Yes, young master.” Henry immediately nodded and rushed back to hold open the rear doors of the car for Finn.
Finn and Kay got into the car, with Henry taking up the passenger seat. The convoy started soon after, rapidly leaving the airport and heading towards the outskirts of Darwin City.
“Where are we going?” As they left the city limits, Kay, curious about the scenery around them, asked.
“I own a ranch here. That’s where we’re headed. I’ve bought a large piece of land in the vicinity as well.” Finn replied, laughing. There were over 400 local people working for Finn at the ranch. They had all settled nearby and formed a small town.
“Does that mean all the land we see here is ours?” Kay asked, curious about the fields and the ranches she could see from the window.
“Yes.” Finn nodded. Unlike in our home country, in this country, your rights over your land are supreme. If someone trespasses, you can shoot them with no questions asked.
This was the issue with private land abroad. Of course, these were just words. If you offended the state authorities in any way and they decided to investigate, there would be nothing you could do. That’s why Finn felt that if he could just buy more than half of Proudshire, even though it would cost an astronomical sum, it would be worth it.
“Wow, the scenery here is really beautiful. I think we could live here. It’s hard to find such a quiet place back home.” Kay remarked, completely awed.
A bit of marching ahead, Finn spotted the construction site where the work of building a private port had just started. Although it wasn’t far from Darwin Port, having a private dock seemed way nicer.
“Any issues with the port facilities here?” Finn, after a bit of thought, asked Henry.
