Chapter 303 Reversal
Chapter 303 Reversal
The situation in Flying Immortal City had reached a fever pitch.
Clearly, the cultivators within the city had not anticipated the beast tide to erupt with such ferocity; it was as though all the monster beasts from the Jade Dragon Mountain Range had swarmed here.
Under the frenzied assault of the monster beast army, large areas of the outskirts of Flying Immortal City quickly fell.
Soon after, many cultivators hiding in stone houses were dragged out, only to be torn to shreds in an instant.
Their flesh and blood became food for the monster beasts!
For cultivators, the flesh and blood of monster beasts are a great supplement, and the reverse is true as well.
Some cultivators hid in underground chambers.
But it was useless.
Among the monster beasts, there were creatures like the Red Earth Beasts, capable of destroying buildings and digging up the ground until the tunnels were exposed, before burrowing further down.
It was almost identical to Wang Chen's previous encounter.
But these cultivators neither had Wang Chen's strength nor his luck.
They were like ground mice being dug out of their nests by greedy, fiendish cats.
Swallowed whole, skin and bones!
The horde continued to push forward, and more and more cultivators fell prey to their bloodlust.
The city had turned into a living hell!
From his position on the mountain, Wang Chen watched from afar, but was completely powerless to do anything.
He was merely a novice cultivator who had just entered the Purple Mansion tier, capable of taking on a hundred ordinary monster beasts alone, but the assault on Flying Immortal City consisted of tens of thousands, including many second-tier Spirit Monsters.
For Wang Chen to go now would be to court death.
He did not possess the noble spirit to sacrifice himself for others.
Seeing that most of the city had fallen, Wang Chen shook his head, preparing to leave.
Flying Immortal City was finished.
His heart was somewhat at a loss.
Wang Chen had planned to wait for winter to pass, then find a reliable team in the city to cross the Jade Dragon Mountain Range.
In fact, there were many Purple Mansion cultivators in the city like him who wished to go to the West Sea Spirit Domain.
But the suddenly erupted beast tide was about to destroy everything.
With Flying Immortal City no longer in existence, where could Wang Chen find a suitable team?
To venture alone into the Jade Dragon Mountain Range without any knowledge of the area was no different from suicide!
Just at this moment, the sound of explosions like muffled thunder suddenly reached his ears.
One after another!
Wang Chen couldn't help but stop in his tracks and turn his head towards Flying Immortal City.
To his surprise, he saw a fleet of Flying Warships approaching from the east, swiftly closing in on Flying Immortal City.
The warships at the forefront, with their beast head ornaments embedded at the bows, were continuously spitting out huge fireballs, bombarding the monster beasts on the ground.
These fireballs crashed to the ground and immediately exploded violently.
Scorching flames engulfed the monster beasts that couldn't dodge in time, and the ferocious power tore them to pieces!
Instantly, the monster beasts were thrown into chaos.
At the same time, the Heavy Crossbows mounted on either side of the Flying Warships' hulls shot out crossbow bolts emitting a pale golden glow towards the Monster Animals in the sky.
These bolts, longer than three meters, shot out with astounding speed and terrifying power, piercing through the bodies of massive eagles, Luan Birds, and other Monster Animals with ease.
The latter fell from the sky one after another.
This fleet, which had appeared out of nowhere, was like a superbly sharp dagger, thrust viciously into the back of the beast horde.
They had caught the monster beasts completely by surprise!
Inside Flying Immortal City, a thunderous cheer suddenly erupted.
Just moments before, the cultivators holding out desperately within the city were on the verge of despair, their resistance growing weaker and weaker.
Including many from the Purple Mansion Superior, everyone thought that today was the day they would perish here.
Who could have imagined that reinforcements would descend from the sky and turn the tide of battle in an instant!
Only those who have faced death can truly understand the preciousness of life; no cultivator was willing to die under the claws and fangs of monster beasts.
With morale greatly boosted, they gathered their remaining strength to counterattack the monster beasts that had invaded their city.
Many cultivators had exhausted their mana; they swallowed Qi Replenishing Pills or unleashed their ultimate moves that they had kept in reserve.
In coordination with the Flying Warships in the sky, they counterattacked the horde of beasts!
Though the monster beast army was caught off-guard, their reaction was also incredibly swift.
A large number of monster animals dominating the sky immediately changed their targets, converging on the Flying Warships.
These monster animals spewed Wind Blades or fireballs at the Flying Warships, while others dove straight in attempting to tear apart the Heavy Crossbows with their sharp claws.
The surface of the Flying Warships immediately lit up with a glow.
An invisible barrier materialized, closely protecting the entire warship.
The attacks of the monster animals fell on it, setting off ripples like those on water.
But they were unable to inflict even the slightest damage on the Flying Warships.
The counterattack from the Flying Warships was even more fierce, with the automatically reloading Heavy Crossbows firing an arrow every five breaths, causing heavy casualties among the approaching monster animals.
Soon, blood rained down from the sky, droplets mingling with the remnants of shattered feathers drifting gently down.
In just the time it takes to brew half a pot of tea, hundreds of monster animals had been shot down by the Flying Warships.
Screech~
A tier-two Spirit Monster among the monster animals realized the dire situation and emitted a fierce cry.
A large flock of flying animals quickly gathered together, attempting to engage the approaching Flying Warships in a head-on battle.
However, before they could form their ranks, streaks of Sword Light burst forth from within several Flying Warships, striking the monster animals with lightning speed.
The killing power of the Flying Swords was more than double that of the Crossbow Arrows; in an instant, hundreds of monster animals were slashed in two!
And these Flying Swords did not cease their assault. They traced dazzling, dragon-like arcs of radiant Sword Light through the sky, weaving back and forth, clearing out the surrounding monster animals.
As new Flying Warships joined the fray, the number of Flying Swords surged, and their attacks became even more ferocious.
Even the tier-two monster animals that attempted to rush the Flying Warships were met with the coordinated attack of dozens of warships; even if they had bodies of steel, they couldn't withstand such ruthless devastation.
As one after another, the tier-two monster animals fell, the "air force" within the beast army collapsed!
Many Luan Birds let out heart-wrenching cries, scattering and fleeing in all directions.
Soon, the other monster animals joined the ranks of those fleeing for their lives!
The commander of the Flying Warships, with a clear head, did not pursue these shrimps.
Taking advantage of their superiority in the air, they launched a second wave of strikes against the beast horde on the ground.
This wave was at least several times more ferocious than the previous!
In this battle, where no Golden Core-tier powers were involved, the dozen or so heavily armed Flying Warships undoubtedly became the saviors of Flying Immortal City's residents.
Not only was the ground assault of the monster beast army stopped, but they also became live targets for the Flying Warships.
As the casualties increased dramatically, even the less-intelligent first-tier monster beasts started to realize that the situation was extremely unfavorable.
A major reversal unfolded on the battlefield!
Monster beasts are not machines; they too have a fear of death.
When the leaders among the monster beasts felt that continuing the fight would not lead to victory,
they started to fall back, no longer possessing the same frenzied momentum.
As a result, Wang Chen discovered that a large number of the retreating monster beasts were heading in a direction that just so happened to coincide with his current position!

The second update is here.
