Chapter 300 Tunnel Warfare (Part 1)
Chapter 300 Tunnel Warfare (Part 1)
In the snow-covered mountain forest, a monster beast dashed forward on the thick layer of snow.
Its body was round and long, with stout limbs and broad, flat paws, covered in dark brown scales, and two fist-sized eyes shimmered with a strange red glow.
The Red-eyed Earthwalker, also known as the Red Earth Beast, was a second-tier Spirit Monster that inhabited the depths of the Jade Dragon Mountain Range.
This was one of the monster beasts that hunters feared the most.
The Red Earth Beast possessed the innate ability to burrow and tunnel through mountains; its lair was hidden within the mountain itself, rendering it impossible to capture.
Furthermore, the Red Earth Beast was immensely strong, its scales impervious to swords and spears, and it had a high resistance to spells.
This type of monster was cunning and fierce, preferring to lurk on the essential paths where cultivators entered the mountains, waiting to suddenly attack its target when they appeared.
Countless cultivators had died under the claws and teeth of the Red Earth Beast!
The most terrifying aspect was its keen sense of smell and perception, allowing it to detect prey hidden underground.
Once locked on by a Red Earth Beast, it would use its innate ability to dig and burrow, "scooping" out the prey to devour it alive.
When a large number of monster beasts attacked Flying Immortal City, this Red Earth Beast did not join the massacre feast; instead, it patiently began searching the nearby mountain forests.
Past experience told the beast that it might find extremely delicious prey here.
The intuition of the Red Earth Beast was always accurate; it suddenly halted its steps and swung its long tail to one side.
The end of the Red Earth Beast's tail was round and club-like, with thick scales covering sturdy bones and sinew, devoid of any flesh.
This too was one of its weapons.
Whoosh!
The tail club swept through the snow, forcibly tearing out a large section of tough vines that were buried underneath.
On the steep rock face, a stone door suddenly became visible!
A savage light flickered in the beast's eyes, and it hunkered down, lifting its tail.
Then it lashed out violently.
Bang!
With a muffled impact, the stone door was forcefully broken open, creating a large hole.
The cave mansion inside was immediately exposed to the Red Earth Beast's line of sight.
The beast sniffed and didn't rush into the cave mansion straight away but opened its mouth and emitted a sharp screech.
Soon after, rustling sounds came from the surrounding mountain forest.
And just as the Red Earth Beast broke through the entrance of the cave mansion, Wang Chen, who was practicing in a secret chamber underground, was jolted with an urgent sense of alarm!
He looked up sharply, his expression grave.
A monster beast?
Although the secret chamber where Wang Chen was located was hidden thirty feet underground, the noise from above was too loud, warning him of the approaching danger.
Since Wang Chen had previously sealed the passageway to the secret chamber, he did not place the Mandarin Duck Mirror in the cave mansion.
As a result, Wang Chen couldn't use this magic artifact to monitor the situation above and was naturally unaware of the source of the danger!
This was something Wang Chen had not anticipated.
He had thought that by sealing the doors and passageway and hiding deep underground, he would be safe for the winter.
He also hoped to avoid a potential beast tide.
But to his utter surprise, in just a few days, a monster beast had appeared at his very doorstep!
The ensuing digging sounds made it clear to Wang Chen that he needed to make a decision.
He had excavated four secret chambers underground, with six or seven passageways connecting them, each with a different exit.
Leaving now would undoubtedly be the safest option. Continue reading on M-V-L
But Wang Chen felt that fleeing without a fight, without even understanding the source of the danger, was not an option.
It's quite a loss of stature!
Since the three Great Monster Kings of Jade Dragon Mountain had signed an agreement with the four major Sects' Nascent Soul True Immortals, it was impossible for a Golden Core tier three Great Monster to appear above.
And the tier two Spirit Monsters belonged to the Purple Mansion category, with which he was fully capable of putting up a fight!
Wang Chen's thoughts raced like lightning, and he immediately took out a Mandarin Duck Mirror and attached it to the cave wall.
Then, he opened the tunnel leading to the lower layer.
He crawled in.
However, Wang Chen did not go far, but instead lurked in this tunnel, using the Mandarin Duck Mirror to observe the situation in the first-floor chamber.
Boom!
Merely half a cup of tea's time after Wang Chen's departure, the top of the first-floor chamber suddenly cracked open, and a foot with black sharp claws probed in and then retracted back.
The beast's paw fiercely scraped once, enlarging the hole's area.
Immediately after, the Red Earth Beast's head drilled in, its bloodshot eyes looking left and right.
Searching for its prey.
It sniffed hard, and at once its massive body, along with shattered rocks and earth, fell into the chamber.
The first-floor chamber Wang Chen had excavated was the largest and had no problem accommodating the Monster Beast.
Just as the Red Earth Beast fell, a Fire Crow with flames ablaze burrowed out from the entrance of the lower tunnel, its body suddenly swelled several times over, and it immediately spread its long fiery wings.
It crashed into the Red Earth Beast!
Boom!
A massive explosion of flame burst forth in the chamber, instantly enveloping the Monster Beast within.
This Fire Crow was indeed released by Wang Chen, condensing tenfold his mana.
Although the Fire Crow Technique was a Qi Cultivation Tier spell, Wang Chen had already cultivated it to the Great Perfection level, and now driving it with the mana of the Purple Mansion Primary Tier, its power was at least ten times stronger than before!
Because the space in the chamber was limited and the explosion of the Fire Crow was extremely fierce, plus the original framework was destroyed by the Red Earth Beast, a large area of the ceiling collapsed.
Countless earth and stones fell onto the Red Earth Beast, which was caught off guard.
The Red Earth Beast was an earth-traveling Monster Beast; under normal circumstances, even if it was buried under more earth and stone, it could still safely extricate itself.
However, this tier two Spirit Monster, just blasted dizzy by the Fire Crow, had not fully recovered when it found that the surrounding earth turned into hard rock in an instant!
The worst part was there was just too much earth and stone pressing on it.
In the blink of an eye, most of the Red Earth Beast's body was covered with thick rock, as if wearing a layer of stone shell.
This brought a heavy burden to the Red Earth Beast and severely limited its mobility.
It couldn't even turn over!
Roaarr~
How could this tier two Spirit Beast willingly be bound in such a manner? It let out an angry roar from its throat and desperately twisted its body to break free from the heavy stone shell.
The Red Earth Beast's strength was immense, and even though its movements were very inconvenient at the moment, the sudden exertion still cracked apart sections of the stone shell, regaining some of its freedom.
However, a Flying Sword shining with a faint golden light instantly penetrated through the cracked opening, piercing the hard scales on the Red Earth Beast's outer skin and delving nearly two feet into its flesh!
Such damage was not enough to deliver a lethal blow to the Red Earth Beast, but the Geng Metal energy contained within the sword body suddenly exploded, acting like invisible sharp blades mercilessly slicing the soft organs of the Spirit Monster.
Roaarr~
The Red Earth Beast let out another roar.
Only this time, its voice was filled with pain and also a hint of despair!
