Chapter 9: Chapter 9 – The Task
“What the hell? What task? Don’t tell me this is all real. I am in that guy’s game!!! That basta.....” she shouted before she could finish her appeared in the dark dingy box again.
Eyes wide, she glanced around. ‘I am back here.....how? what... oh God, that notification sounded like game notification...’ she thought as a bad premonition arose in her heart.
she had been working in the game industry for a very long time and if she couldn’t even identify this simple info, then..... ‘Wait.... let’s think about things at hand. The notification said that I failed the level...’
Right then, the system chimed again.
[“Adventurer, welcome back to Glimmer of Redemption.
Your character: mage.
Your physical stats: 50
.....
Health: 50
Power bar: -10
Number of Lives: 2
Level: 1
Task: All are swimming like a swine.
Good luck,” the mechanical voice said and disappeared.]
This time Feng listened with rapt attention. ‘What kind of task is this, huh? To swim like swine.....but didn’t I swim around. Then why did I fail it,’
“Hmmm I should have pushed that fatty swine underwater,” she mumbled.
The box rocked to the side as the boat was turning to the left. The two kids in the box whimpered softly.
Feng frowned. Last time she was quite confused and in a rush to leave the boat that she left behind these two little kids. ‘But how do I take them along? By her previous observation, there are at least 15 men on board. It was my luck that they all didn’t chase me last time but if I take the kids along, it will attract more attention,’
“But I can’t leave them again...” she mumbled. “If it really was a game, then there should be an easy fix. but how?...”
She swiftly punched a hole at the weak spot on the box. She peeked out. This time she saw the fat man striding around. “Hey you both,”
The kids moved away from her swiftly. Yet she crawled over to them and held their trembling hands. “Listen, I am going to open this box in a minute. I need you both to jump out and run when I give you the command, okay,”
The two kids trembled and hugged each other tight. They both did not give any affirmation, but she couldn’t do much more than this. ‘It’s not like I can lift them and run around,’ she wiped her sweaty forehead and sighed.
Feng peeked out the hole to see the fat man beating up another sailor. “Maybe he is the swine. I’ll definitely make him swim this time,” she said with a naughty grin. ‘All I have to do is to let him step in my trap,’
“Hey... you pig, do you think you can keep me in here? I am definitely going to chop you into pieces, you ball less piece of shit,” she shouted.
The fat man turned around and glanced at her box.
“Yes you, you pig. I am definitely suing you and your crew. Let me tell you, I’m a big shot in my company!”
“What did you call me!” the fat man growled.
“Piggggg,” she said loudly.
The stout man dashed over and punched the box like last time. He reached inside with his stubby hands. She kicked it hard.
“Ahhh!!”
Feng grinned. “Kids run!” she shouted and dashed out.
She shielded her eyes from the bright light and ran towards the familiar mast of the ship. The fat man ran after her. ‘Nice, trap set.’
She glanced back to with a smile, but her smile waned away soon. The kids, they were still hiding inside the box. ‘Waa they didn’t listen to a word.’
The fat man had already reached close. “You bloody bitch how you dare call me a pig,”
Feng bit her teeth and glanced back. ‘Should I go back for them or should I save my skin?’
The fat man reached out and caught her shirt. “Caught you. I’m gonna skin you alive and cook you into a soup,” he growled with a sinister smile.
“I agree....NOT,” forcing all her momentum in her palm, she punched him in between his legs.
“ac-achh ahhh,” he squealed and moaned in pain.
She tugged her shirt out of his grip and ran over to the box. “Hey kids, I told you to come out!” she shouted out loud.
The fat man rolled over and glanced around at the sailors, watching this with a blank look. “What are gawking at? Catch her. I will even give you guys’ share of meat,”
All this ruckus made the sailors all glance at her. Slowly they stepped forward and surrounded her. “Mater said runaways should not be spared. That means... we will have meat,” one of them salivated with a creepy smile on his face.
Feng stalled away from him. Sadly, they all were standing right in between her and the trembling kids.
The skinny guy drooled even more and stepped forward.
‘Shit, by the looks of it, they really do cook humans and eat them,’ she thought, gritting her teeth.
