Paragon of Death

Chapter 75

Chapter 75

75 Chapter 74: The battle begins

Damon gazed at the distance and frowned. Just as Tristan had predicted there were both fox spirits and Vampires in the Forbidden palace but that wasn’t what left him disturbed. Damon was more interested in the enemy at the distance. The least amongst them was at least an esteemed human with more exalted human realm monsters in their midst. There was nothing less than a two-tailed fox spirit amongst the enemies.

“They found us?”

The vampires and fox spirits squinted their eyebrows as they gazed at the army below, surrounding them on all sides. What was more shocking now was the fact that there was no city guard in place or imperial guard patrolling the streets of the capital.

Having fierce military operations like this in the capital is illegal unless the person has the approval of the son of heaven! The fact none was in place to stop these people, they already knew the son of heaven was very much aware of their presence. And has decided to get rid of them tonight!

“Damn it!” Tank growled.

He was a seven feet tall human with an enormous body and a heavy build. For a vampire who is supposed to be attractive after the transformation. Tank didn’t look any better than an average human. Maybe it was his big size that gave a sense of insecurity and more or the scars riddled all over his body.

If not for the charm ability that comes with his vampire status, he may not even be able to get a woman to look at him twice. Damon quickly spotted him from the distance and frowned. Such a figure would be lacking in terms of speed but when it comes to strength, he will most likely be able to destroy everything and anything in his path!

“All the pieces on the board are ready... all that is left is for us to command the army!” Tristan said calmly as he shot a glance at Damon who nodded in agreement.

The difference between trained soldiers and beasts like this was already beginning to show.

.....

While the vampires in question lacked orderliness and discipline it was different from the army below.

“Our forces for this operation mostly consist of infantry troops, just like every normal troop you will be assigned to a hundred-man team and join the formation!” Tristan said, leaving Damon disturbed.

Even if he wasn’t aware of a lot of things in regard to war he knew the basics which are very simple. People most likely to die in war are those at the front lines and war is too unpredictable. He can be killed at any moment or at any time!

“And here I was, expecting to become a hundred man commander and maybe lead a small unit to ensure my safety and all that. Who would have thought I would join the front lines” Damon mocked Tristan with a frown.

It felt like the only one not trying to kill him in the Hail family was just Duke Hail. No other member of this family treats him as well as the Duke.

“You are tasked with killing the enemy and getting more tattoos to improve your strength as a lone wolf. How do you intend to do that if you are behind the army? The front lines are the best place for you!” Tristan said.

Before Damon could respond he felt a hand go around his belly and pull him off the ground. His eyes widened as he gripped the quickly slashed out at the hand but he felt like he hit an impregnable wall!

His eyes widened in shock as his claws felt number. He looked up to see a man in a uniform, with a scar on his face. The man’s strength was vast and wide! He could feel his body getting crushed lightly by the residual energy surging from the man.

It was a warrior realm expert!

A hundred-man commander!

“Cage will be your team commander, he will relay my orders to the rest of the army.... I hope you cooperate well with him”

Saying this. Tristan jumped off the building top and landed on a fierce beast below. It was a grey wolf the size of a grown man. The beast which was once ferocious and loud turned to calm the moment Tristan appeared.

The strength of this beast was something even Damon couldn’t sense!

“Terrifying!” Damon muttered. He soon realized he has failed to notice Tristan’s real strength. All he could feel from this man was dangerous air but that was it. It was his death magic warning him of the potential threat the man may be.

But he has never been able to sense his real aura, that way he has no means of knowing how strong Tristan or other members of the hail family are.

“In war, a loyal steed is very important.... After this battle, the young Lord has planned to give you a steed of your own. That is if you manage to survive” the hundred-man commander, Cage said with a stone cold face and Damon turned pale in response.

Right now he was no longer dealing with human realm individuals. It wasn’t too shocking that a great death mage like him carried on in such a shameful way. He was just grateful none of his friends were here to see, if not they will make fun of him for generations by using today’s event

“You don’t have to carry me, sir, I can walk on my own” Damon said in hopes that the man would drop him but all his words got was silence.

..............

Damon found himself at the rear position of the army. With his identity as a mage he was positioned with the other mages while the guardians stood ahead and lancers behind them.

Within the large hundred-man force he stood like a pillar and behind them was Cage mounted on the mighty white horse gazing at the enemies above the stairs.

The tension in the air was high as the army stood and watched the supernatural beings with frosty eyes.

The existence of supernatural beings has always been hidden from the public and even though many people know they exist, not many have fought them in the past. These soldiers were all loyal forces of the Duke, existences that have fought countless supernatural beings. Their experience in such a level of combat is not to be underestimated.

“Archers ready!” Tristain finally spoke and quickly the archers pulled out their weapons and readied their flaming arrows.

“Mages! Move!” The hundred men’s commanders roared at the same time.

Meanwhile, the mages behind, including Damon began to chant. They already had an understanding of the plan so they were forced to play along.

Behind them were barrels of oil and under them was a magic array!

Beside each hundred-man commander was a powerful mage over the warrior realm chanting and drawing energy from the forces. The array below the barrels lit up and before anyone could speak a strong burst of wind erupted sending the barrels flying towards the forbidden palace!

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Some people were hit by the barrage of countless barrels and the oil poured across the building, soaking the entire area and even slipping down the stairs!

Seeing this Damon frowned. He already knew what was going to happen!

“Loose!” Tristan gave the other and sounds of bow strings filled the air!

Flaming arrows shot high into the air and rained down on the forbidden palace. While some got in through the windows like the barrels, others hit the surroundings, and almost immediately, the entire place was consumed in fierce flames!

[They are killing both supernatural beings and the humans having a good time at the forbidden palace!] Damon’s mind raced as screams and cries filled the air!

The once silent Street became noisy as cries and pleas for help filled the air!

“Just about now...” Tristan said with knitted eyebrows.

Bang!

Almost immediately, the doors burst open and burning figures began running down the stairs and racing toward the army. Each let out Inhuman cries as they felt the pain of the flames but they endured.

“Lesson number one! Never engage in a battle where you have a geographical disadvantage. Thanks to the nature of the forbidden palace, the enemy has a high ground which is easily defendable. All we have done now is to force them down and battle them on equal terms” Tristan’s voice was like lightning and even from a far distance away he still spoke to Damon and lectured him.

Damon gazed at the enemies racing down the stairs. The forbidden palace had enough capacity to house hundreds of people, if not thousands. In terms of numbers, the army had the advantage but the difference was not that much.

Maybe two hundred to three hundred differences at best.

The enemy forces were fast approaching and the main battle was about to begin. The already tense atmosphere also turned hot as smoke rose into the clouds.

A major battle was about to break out in the capital!
