Chapter 587: Chapter 589: Crossroads (1)

Lu Weixi had never imagined a day would come when she would have to choose between her relatives and her lover.

But she understood her mother. Her mother had tasted the bitterness of life. She too had been deceived by a scoundrel. During their time of love, he was more affectionate towards her than Qin Zhiyou is now. But when they divorced, he became ruthless, quarreling and trying every possible measure to transfer his assets, eventually leaving her mother penniless. He simply left without looking back, and even years later his actions still caused her mother to fall ill, her life hanging by a thread.

But if she were to look at Qin Zhiyou, when he liked her he would arrange everything well. Whatever project or object she wanted, he would deliver it to her. But what if his affection faded? Lu Weixi knew too well how frugal Qin Zhiyou used to be. Yes, Qin Zhiyou was interested in her now, but was it love? All she could feel was a touch of affection and physical intimacy. Was this called love? Without even touching the edge of love, how could she have faith in Qin Zhiyou?

And in their five long years of marriage, Qin Zhiyou hadn’t given her an ounce of assurance.

Lu Weixi was already an adult, she wouldn’t be forced into choices because of her parents’ threats like she was when she was younger. But there was no denying that her mother’s words touched her. She wasn’t young anymore. If she was still at her energetic twenty-two, she might’ve dared to marry another man just to spite her cheating ex-boyfriend.

But now, she had her job, she had her obligations. If she kept dragging along, she wouldn’t have the time or energy to divorce Qin Zhiyou and then to have a new relationship while keeping her work in order.

If she wanted to break up, she needed to act decisively! If she wanted to carry on, she must grit her teeth and persist. No matter what happened in the future, she’d have to act clueless and keep going.

“Mom, I will consider it carefully.”

“You don’t need to consider. If you come next time and you are still not separated from Qin Zhiyou, you don’t need to see me again.” Her mom saw her daughter’s hesitation and issued a stern ultimatum.

She then turned her head lazily and rang the call bell for the nurse to change her medicine, “You guys go. I need some rest.”

Lu Weixi knew this was a polite way of asking them to leave. It would be inappropriate if there were other people around.

Lu Weixi nodded her head, “Then mom, you rest well. I am going back first.”

After finishing her words, there was little else to say. She turned around and left.

Qin Zhiyou had been standing behind Lu Weixi. As she passed by, he saw distress and heaviness in her expression.

He looked back at Lu’s mom, she was still holding her cup, appearing to be drinking water, but in fact, the cup was empty.

He could only leave behind a sentence, “Mom, I am leaving first.”

Turning on his heels, he followed Lu Weixi. He managed to keep up with her, but didn’t dare disturb her or speak. He just followed her in silence.

The journey was quiet. When they got in the car and fastened their seatbelts, Qin Zhiyou held the steering wheel and looked ahead, but didn’t start the engine. With a furrowed brow, he asked, “What are you thinking?”

Lu Weixi stared at the elevator doors in the distance. She took a long time to reply, “…I don’t know.”

Qin Zhiyou turned to look at her, only seeing her silent profile. It suddenly occurred to him. He unfastened his seatbelt, leaning over, “Do you have… feelings for me now?”
