My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 33 Something Suspicious

Chapter 33 Something Suspicious

There was an awkward moment of silence as the three ate their meals with Karen constantly turning her gaze toward Dave who had his gaze down on his food and it didn't look like he was going to raise it just like that.

Emma didn't notice the awkwardness in the air and thought they just wanted to enjoy their meal quietly.

Well, she wasn't going to let that silence last for long as she had a few things that she wanted to ask Dave.

"Umm…Dave, you forgot to tell me how the training went." Emma said before putting a stake in her mouth.

"Yeah, you usually ask before I do that," Dave said, slowly turning his gaze to her.

The reason why Dave had his gaze down was because he was directly facing Karen who was putting on a green dress that hugged her body and exposed her cleavages in a way that he found quite uncomfortable.

"Okay, so how was the training?" Emma asked with a smile.

"It was nice, really fun, like the best training session since this week." Dave declared.

"Really?" Emma expressed with a smile.

"How fun?" Karen asked, joining the conversation.

"I said it was the best this season and I don't think you guys will like me to go into the details of the training," Dave said.

Emma found it quite strange that Dave was talking to Karen but he had decided to keep his gaze on her instead, not turning to her for a single second.

"Did you guys play that fun tic tac toe game with the colored balls?" Karen asked with an excited tone to her voice.

"Yeah…..we did," Dave said, slightly turning away from Emma.

"That's my favorite part in the few training videos that I have watched," Karen said.

"That's good," Dave said with a little nod as he grabbed his glass of water.

"Umm….Dave." Emma called.

"You know it's normal to face someone when you're talking with the person," Emma said.

"I know." Dave said before quickly taking down the liquid contents in the cup and getting up from his seat. "I'll be in my room."

"But we haven't watched our show together." Emma said.

"I have to be at the stadium by ten AM." Dave said.

"It's just eight thirty two PM, we usually go to bed by ten." Emma contended.

"I feel like going in early today." Dave said, feigning a yawn before stretching

Maybe that fooled Karen but definitely not Emma.

"Okay," Emma said, not wanting to argue further with him.

After Dave had gone upstairs, Emma had cleared the table with the help of Karen and now the two were watching a telenovela in the living room.

"So Dave's team is playing against Ronino FC tomorrow," Karen said a few minutes after they had started watching the telenovela.

"Yeah," Emma said with a nod, her gaze not shifting from the television's screen.

"Are you going to watch it?" Karen asked.

"Well, the Wondamino stadium is just a ten minutes drive from here so why not?" Emma said. "And besides I don't think Dave will want me to stay here alone at night after what happened."

"You know you never told me much about him," Karen said. Her attention didn't seem to be on the telenovela at all unlike Emma who was enjoying it.

"I did," Emma said, turning to her. "I told you on WhatsApp."

"Yeah, but you never elaborated on who he was," Karen said.

"I told you he was a football player for Unique FC just like my brother. What else did you expect me to tell you?"

"Okay," Karen said.

There were a few moments of silence as the two watched the show together before Karen decided to bring up another question.

"Has he ever told you anything about his past relationship, his ex-girlfriend?" Karen asked.

"I'm his first girlfriend just like he's my first boyfriend, there was no past relationship." Emma elaborated. "Why are you suddenly asking me these questions?"

"Ummm…I was just making sure no one comes back to get in the way of your perfect relationship." Karen said, feigning a smile.

"Okay," Emma said, turning her gaze back to the television.

The two watched the telenovela in silence together until Emma slowly got up from the couch.

"I'll be back." She said before making her way toward the staircase.

"Okay," Karen said relaxing on the couch.

Dave was busy scrolling through social media checking the latest news and reading articles about footballers, he even found one written about his heroics last night and how that performance may be the start of something special for him and Unique FC.

'That was a very heartwarming article to read.'

<You can say that again but you'll have to keep pushing if you don't want to see the opposite of that next time>

'You don't always have to state the obvious Catherine.'

He was still scrolling through the media while lying on his back when Emma had entered the room, he didn't even hear her footsteps but he had done what his instincts told him to do.

He quickly turned his phone over and turned to the other side pretending to be fast asleep.

Emma stood at the entrance and watched him fake snoring for a while before deciding to say something.

"You know I saw you right," Emma said. "And you already gave yourself away with the snoring even if I didn't see you."

Dave let out a sigh as he rolled back to lie on his back.

"I know you did." He said. "I wasn't feeling sleepy yet so I decided to entertain myself with my phone."

"I know why you decided to leave, it's Karen right?" Emma said, moving closer to him.

There was no response from Dave who was looking at her with wide eyes now.

"I saw how awkward you were acting during dinner, you usually look at me and tell me how pretty I am during every meal we share together but today you couldn't even look at me until I spoke to you." She said sitting beside him on the bed. "You don't like her."

"Emma," Dave said with a sigh as he sat up on the bed. "It's not that I don't like her, I just don't feel comfortable around her for some reason."

"Did anything happen between you two while I was at the grocery store?" She asked.

"No, no nothing happened between us," Dave said.

"Then why do you find being around her uncomfortable?" She asked.

"I don't know but I just don't feel comfortable around her I feel like…."

"You feel like what?" Emma inquired.

"Never mind it's nothing," Dave said.

"Okay," Emma said. "But can you at least try to act normal when having a conversation with her, it was sort of rude the way you were talking to her and looking in another place?"

"Okay, I'll try to act normal next time," Dave said.

"Thank you," Emma said, kissing him. "I'm going to go finish the telenovela with her and I'm spending the night with her in the guest room, hope you don't mind?"

"Sure, I don't mind," Dave said with a smile.

"Okay." She said getting up from the bed. "Hope you don't miss me too much."

"I'll try not to."

"Well, I won't miss you because I'll be having a blast with my best friend." She turned to him with a cheeky smile before leaving the room.

After she was gone, Dave let out a deep sigh as he crashed on his bed.

<It's good that you didn't tell her what you were feeling about her friend>

'Yeah, she's leaving tomorrow so I don't want to stir up any trouble.'

<You have quite a good sense of perception>

'Well in cases like this I do, this isn't the first time I've experienced something like this.'

<Good for you and may I give you one precaution tip so you don't fall off your career path?>

'What?' Dave inquired?

<Never let her sleep over again no matter what>
