Chapter 136: Dreadspawns

Chapter 136: Dreadspawns

''There are just the five hundred gold coins for the dungeon discovery that the mayor awarded you,'' the receptionist answered.

Atlas nodded before leaving the Adventurer's Guild and going to the inn where he was staying. He noticed people panicking as they rushed down the street, looking worried and holding their children.

'What the hell is happening,' he thought as explosions went off in the distance.

It took him fifteen minutes to reach the Hosseini Inn, and when Atlas entered, he noticed it was empty, which was strange. As the door slammed shut, Mitra popped out with a shocked expression.

''Atlas!'' the older woman said as she rushed to him.

She hugged him before continuing, ''You need to leave Tarajiyah City. The Immortals found your room and know you're completing the dungeons.''

Atlas was confused but shook his head before questioning, ''How do they know I was here?''

''They had a high-ranked Spirit Mage that can track you,'' Mitra responded while checking him over. ''Your aura differs from others as the Void lingers around you.''

When Atlas heard this, he shivered before she dragged him to the back of the inn as she concluded, ''Escape into the mountains and travel quick. They have hired the Crimson Vanguard to hunt you alongside the Immortals.''

Atlas's worry deepened, but Mitra was already ahead of him. With a sad smile, she gently pushed him back. "I hate that we're parting like this, Atlas," she said. "But the rumors about the Immortals suggest they'd do unimaginable things to you. Stay safe, grow stronger, and come back to me when you're ready my boy."

He smiled at the woman who had unofficially adopted him during his stay in the city. Atlas thanked her for all the help and sprinted through the alleyways, equipping his armor—this time, it wasn't hidden.

'They know I'm hiding myself,' Atlas thought. 'I will fight them, but use the monsters on my side to escape.'

Following that, he rushed through Tajariyah City, but soon, a wave of spells peppered the street around him. Atlas quickly cast Void Guard, which deflected the attacks but made him skid backward due to the impact.

'They're here,' he thought as figures dressed in all black with demon masks surrounded him.

Atlas prepared to fight by readying his blades and looking for a way out, but a man's voice reached his ears, ''Surrender Dahaka, and your death will be swift. There's nowhere for you to run or hide anymore.''

He bristled angrily and replied sarcastically, ''Oh yes, let me just lay down my swords so you can put me in the Boats, as your emperor said. Noway I'm listening to you Achaemenidian dogs.''

After speaking, Atlas activated Dungeon Conquerer and summoned three Death Gorillas led by Kara, who roared in anger as the monsters started attacking the Immortals. He burst forward and slashed at another enemy, who was shocked at his speed.

'Try to keep up with me, Achaemenidians!'

Atlas pressed on with ferocity, unleashing a storm of slashes and stabs that the Immortal struggled to deflect. In otherworldly maneuver, Atlas cast Void Step, momentarily vanishing from sight.

He reemerged behind his foe in the blink of an eye, driving his blade deep into their back. With skill, he spun and intercepted the next assault, his resolve unshaken amidst the chaos of battle.

The battle caused chaos on the street as the Death Gorilla circled Atlas, sending the Immortals flying like rag-dolls. While fighting, he noticed more of the enemy appearing, but he fought with the leader.

They traded blows that sent clangs through the street as their blades connected, but Atlas was faster and ran circles around the man. The Immortal kept and spoke, ''Why fight so hard demon! Your death is the only thing that awaits you.''

As the words echoed around him, a distant memory surged to the forefront of Atlas's mind. He was transported back to Earth to a sunlit afternoon in the family garden. He was seated beside his mother, the vibrant blossoms of their garden framing their conversation.

With fervent eyes, he spoke of his dreams to become a hero like his father—a firefighter who had given his life in the line of duty. Unwavering and filled with belief, his mother placed a steady hand on his shoulders.

Her voice, a beacon of encouragement, resonated deeply. "It's okay for you to become who you want to be, my son. Remember always to keep fighting."

In that profound moment of remembrance, Atlas's resolve crystallized. He halted mid-stride, his gaze fierce and unwavering. He leveled his blade at the Immortals Commander and declared, "I will become the strongest on Valoria and bring the Achaemenid Empire to its knees."

Following that, Atlas burst forward so fast he was like a bullet and sent several strikes that cut the commander. The Immortals were shocked but quickly ganged up on him. When he saw this, he quickly deflected many of the attacks and killed a few before being struck himself.

He used Void Step to clear space between them as the last Death Gorilla fell to the other Immortals. Once they were gone, the others surrounded him, and a new foe joined the fray with a horrifying howl.

Atlas looked up to see creepy humanoids jumping into the street as another battle erupted between them and the Immortals, but the ones surrounding him didn't move. He smiled while pointing Nightblade at the ground.

''I shall see you guys soon,'' he said before casting a Void Bomb that connected with the ground before exploding.

The explosive force hurled him and the Immortals into the air, their forms tumbling through the sky. Amidst the chaos, Atlas summoned his Blood Bat, its eerie screech piercing through the din.

As the creature burst through the portal, it snatched Atlas in mid-flight, its talons gripping him securely. The Blood Bat fluttered its wings unsteady as it chirped at him. He smiled, his fingers brushing the creature's sleek, blood-red fur.

Suddenly, a barrage of spells and arrows struck them, each impact causing the bat to falter. Despite the relentless assault, the Bat folded its wings protectively around Atlas as they descended.

The pair plummeted toward the streets below, the ground rushing to meet them amidst a flurry of magical and physical attacks. Thanks to the Blood Bat, Atlas wasn't hurt, but he was low on mana and needed to recover.

He jumped up as the monster's body faded and started running through the streets. Atlas passed by an alleyway, only for those creepy humanoids to lunge at him, but he could easily cut them down.

Atlas quickly scanned one of them before passing by.

[Run, these monsters are hunting YOU!]

When Atlas saw the warning, he yelped and quickened his pace. As he ran, he sensed a pair of eyes watching him, but he pushed the feeling aside and focused on spotting the cave entrance to the new dungeon he had discovered.

As Atlas approached, three Immortals blocked his path. He quickly cast Void Bullets, their projectiles peppering the ground before them. The spells erupted, sending the enemies reeling backward and giving him a chance to slip past.

He drove his blade into one of them, and the Dreadspawn leaped onto the remaining foes. With the way momentarily clear, Atlas dashed into the tunnel, pursued by the other howling creatures.

One of the Dreadspawns managed to catch up, leaping onto Atlas and sinking its teeth into his shoulder, causing him to scream in pain. Just as that happened, he caught sight of four figures clad in black.

Atlas locked eyes with one of them, whose beautiful brown eyes stood out starkly. Before he could react further, an explosion rippled through the tunnel, throwing everything into chaos as he plummeted into a dark chasm once again.

While falling, he spotted the figure also falling, but they threw a rope and stopped. He was enveloped by darkness, and he killed the Dreadspawn that clung to him just as he crashed into a ledge.

The impact knocked out the wind, and he hit his head hard. While Atlas lay there as his head spun, the stone broke, sending him further down. His whole body was screaming in pain as the bite wound bled profusely as he crashed into ice-cold water that woke him up.

Atlas was still blind, and even the Night Eyes couldn't see because of the damage it received when he hit his head. While floating to the surface, he pulled out a few mana potions before downing them to top himself up.

As he did this, a bad feeling washed over him, as a massive shark was charging directly at him. When Atlas saw this, he panicked but pulled out his swords before casting Void Blast to move him out of the monster's path.

The shark zoomed past him, giving Atlas a crucial moment to act. He summoned the Death Serpent, draining all his energy as the portal materialized. The appearance of the serpentine creature halted the shark's advance.

With a powerful bite, the snake clamped down on the shark and coiled its lengthy form around it. As the battle unfolded, Atlas quickly scanned the enemy to determine its identity and rank.

'At least I have the Death Serpent to help me,' Atlas thought with a relieved smile.
