Chapter 521: The War - Dragon Mountains Bloodshed, part 5/5

POV A defender:

Gogosniffer's heart pounded wildly as he sprinted through the pitch-black cave, the deafening echoes of battle still ringing in his ears. "The monster has grown stronger again," he muttered, the terrifying displays of power he had just witnessed flashing before his eyes.

Moments ago, he had seen an entire galaxy form above his head; the image was breathtaking and far beyond anything he had ever imagined. But the awe was short-lived as the galaxy vanished as suddenly as it appeared, replaced by the terrifying beam of dragon breath that struck down the hero.

"Focus on the battle, Gogosniffer!" A commanding voice jolted him back to the chaos.

All around him, the battle surged, dwarven formations being relentlessly pushed back down the dark tunnels by the tall, armored, horned figures. These monsters methodically cut through every defense, their progress unstoppable.

Bolts and arrows whizzed through the air, striking the armored invaders but sliding off their dark armor, accompanied by blinding pulses of light.

"Hold! We can't allow them to enter the city!" The officer's desperate command echoed, and the dwarven formations steeled themselves, their massive shields forming a metal wall in the tunnel.

Suddenly, the darkness was punctuated by flashes of red light, countless beams erupting from the tips of the monsters' halberds. The defensive lines crumbled, the beams slicing through multiple ranks at once. Smoldering, burning corpses fell to the ground, the smell of burned meat filling the air.

"Fuck!" Gogosniffer wanted to scream in frustration as he glanced at his enchanted axe, a weapon he had once been proud of. Now, it felt like a relic from a museum, useless against the modern magitech weapons the dragons wielded.

'Ancient piece of crap!' he thought bitterly. They had had decades, yet they had squandered their time, failing to keep pace with the dragons' advancements. They witnessed what the monsters were doing decades ago but still didn't act accordingly.

Despair washed over him. 'We have created a monster,' he thought, the reality sinking in. The dragon and his forces were unstoppable by any mortal force he knew. Even if all of Earth and Lorenia united, it would be futile.

Ding!

Attack now! Do it!

The urgent message flashed before him. 'Fuck!' Gogosniffer glanced at the nearest dwarven soldier, his arm trembling as he raised the axe. The soldier stood with his back toward him, trusting him with his life. Yet he was about to betray that trust, a realization that made him feel sick to his core.

'No, they are all dead already. I am...' He swung the axe down, cutting into the dwarf. Chaos erupted instantly, with the rest of the players following suit and striking down their former allies.

POV The knight:

Burning lines burst through the metal formations as even taller, armored figures crashed their way forward, enemies collapsing just from their burning auras. At the forefront, Johan, the leading knight, could already see the cave opening into a vast chamber, an entire city carved into the cave walls and around massive pillars that supported the towering ceiling.

Determination surged through Johan as he put even more force into his legs, his winged form smashing through the last dwarven formations as if they were nothing but ragdolls. His draconic blood boiled with wrath, yet beneath the rage, he recognized the reality of the scene before him.

'This is slaughter...' he thought, though the realization didn't slow him down. This wasn't a battle; it was a cold execution. Yet he didn't pause. He had his orders, and he was going to fulfill them, driven by the promise of a great reward and his cause.

'To become a true dragon.' It had been a long time since he had given up his humanity, and he no longer regretted it. Immortality, power, and a cause he believed in were his rewards.

At first, he had considered himself serving the wrong side, accepting it for the benefit. But now he saw the truth: his side was in the right.

On one side, there were constantly warring mortals, unable to unite, manipulated by gods who used them as mere puppets. On the other side, there were almost destroyed remnants of an ancient race, fighting for their survival.

He had witnessed a thousand-year-old wyrm bowing its head, falling into line instead of pursuing its ego, and becoming an effective part of the army. He had seen countless kobolds working tirelessly.

It wasn't them who had started this war; it was the always unhappy mortals and their gods with inflated egos who weren't willing to share power. Even now, their rulers were blindly throwing their soldiers into slaughter, which they couldn't win while hiding in their palaces.

Instead, their leaders were always close, ready to strike at the moment of notice.

They weren't hiding and were ready to fight on the frontline, covering their claws in blood instead of hiding behind their subordinates. Instead, he has even witnessed their king personally protect them from a dangerous enemy, risking their own life.

Behind him, the rest of his knights caught up, their auras intensifying the inferno around them.

"You know the orders. Kill the king, slaughter and destroy the temple, and most importantly, secure the treasury until the rest of the army arrives," Johan commanded, his voice echoing with authority.

POV The dwarven King:

"Sir, they are coming!"

A resounding bang echoed between the stone walls as the entrance gate shook violently. The dwarf king, Thrain Ironbeard, heaved himself off his throne, his massive belly bouncing against his armor plate. Panic gripped his heart, but he forced it down, gripping his war axe with trembling hands.

'It's over, it's so over,' he thought, his mind racing as he joined the ranks of his royal guards.

"We will die with honor!" he yelled, trying to instill courage in his men. Though he had failed his ancestors by allowing the Dragon Mountains to fall, he would not shame them further by groveling before the invaders.

The doors shuddered once more, then collapsed inward, crashing onto the stone floor with a deafening thud.

Tall, armored figures filled the doorway, their halberds raised menacingly. Their eyes glowed with a sinister light behind the visors of their horned helmets. At the forefront, a figure cloaked in darkness growled in an inhuman, cold voice.

"Execute them."

Light flashed from the tips of the halberds.

Burning pain erupted in the king's chest. He looked down to see a massive hole torn straight through his armor and body. His eyes widened in shock, his vision quickly darkening.

'No...' he thought weakly, but his legs gave way, and he crumpled to the ground.

The crimson lights flashed again, searing through his guards. Screams of agony filled the air as they too fell one by one, their bodies smoldering where the beams had struck.

Thrain Ironbeard's vision dimmed further, the world around him fading to black.
