Chapter 439 The Forgotten Matters
Chapter 439 The Forgotten Matters
?
The claws scratched on the bare stone floor as the tall silhouette of a dragon shining with fire approached the tall, golden statue.
There was an absolute silence and no aura.
Then the eyes of the statue lit up in pulsing golden brilliance that erased all the shadows from the temple. The familiar aura filled with pride and absolute dominance froze the dragon in his steps.
The loud voice of the dragon god brimming with energy and nobility came out of the moveless metal mouth of the statue, "I know why have you come..."
Vesuvius bowed deeply, his head almost touching the floor, out of respect toward the statue, no, toward the being it represented.
"Tell me... why do you think I gave you the time limit on your task to repay your debt."
Dozens of ideas and strings of thoughts streamed through his mind. Though, none of them felt correct. Still, he chose the one that was, in his opinion, closest to the truth.
'The time limit likely didn't come from the dragon god themself as it is too short. What are a few decades to an ancient being?'
"Your Draconic Divinity, is it because of some arbitrary rule of the system?"
"No, you are wrong. The thieves are mortals; no matter how much of my gold they splurt and waste to try and prolong their feeble lives, they will still die."
'So there was a good reason for it. Now, it feels so obvious when I know the answer.'
The golden light brightened, and the air turned heavy as the golden statue gained a red hue, burning in red fire or anger, "They stole from me! No, the temple has belonged to us dragons. They stole from us all, and yet they still walk around. Do you think they deserve to die peacefully after enjoying the gold that didn't belong to them?"
The unrelenting raging fire kept blazing and spinning in a red vortex with the statue in its centre, making Vesuvius step back. He slightly trembled, the god's anger seeping into his heart and mind.
'The god is right, they stole from all the dragons when they robbed and pillaged our sacred place.'
"No, they can't be allowed to get away with it. They must be punished!" His eyes flashed in red light.
"Exactly... they are getting old, and your time is shortening. Go, if you want the information you seek, then first finish your task. Getting their souls after they die would be much harder, and there will be a price to pay."
Vesuvius knew it was fact just from his knowledge contained within his memories, 'We dragons rule over life. While someone lives, their soul is still under our jurisdiction. However, when they die they leave it.'
The red flames slightly calmed down, but the anger still burned within its glowing eyes and the depths of the dragon's heart.
"The gold will be eventually found, so that can wait. However, the thieves must be found immediately!"
'This is quite reasonable. Finding all the gold that could have been melted or traveled to another end of the world might take centuries.'
The bowing dragon raised his head, his eyes burning with the same golden glow as those of the statue, "I will fulfill your will and find those thieves immediately..."
'Someone who stole from us can't be afforded peaceful death.'
The golden eyes of the statue flashed even brighter, and images and memories entered Vesuviuse's mind.
A large white mansion stood on the coast. Its bright red roof was visible even from the height of the bird's perspective. The waves shattered against the toothy rocks poking from the sea, and the beach's white sands reflected the sunlight.
"I gave you the location of the first thief... the rest is up to you." The golden brilliance faded, and the temple dimmed, leaving no trace of the past event.
The dragon turned, the ground shaking under his anger-filled steps. He had some justice to enact.
'They stole from our sacred place when we were at our weakest. That is unforgivable.'
POV ???:
Water splashed, and steam filled the old tunnel. The hooded shadow of a human with eyes glowing beneath his hood rushed forward, water splashing under his feet
A pair of long horns of fire crowned his head, illuminating the tunnel in their flickering blue light.
He stopped, his ears fully focused, trying to discern if someone he was still being pursued.
'Freaking blind men, they can't see the truth of fire. How much do they want to catch me...'
Suddenly a distorted voice came out of the darkness, "Welcome, number four. You are the fourth to awaken your full potential and have reached the full synchronization!"
His aura expanded, making the stream water bubble before evaporating into clouds of steam as he prepared to fight, his senses strained to maximum.
With a murderous glow in his eyes, he looked around, searching for the target to burn. However, there was no one except for a few rats covering and squealing in the corner.
"Enjoy it, as you are now finally fully qualified to enter the race to free me! You have potential, so join me on my mission to bring chaos to save us!" the voice continued, but he still couldn't see any trace of its source.

'What is this? I am on Earth, so how can there be this? This is nonsense. Am I dreaming?'
"Shut up! I don't care about you. I have..."
"Things to burn. I know as I have watched you. However, if you join me, I will reward you. I can make your flames... oh!"
His heart skipped a beat at the beautiful thought of his flames becoming even hotter, but he kept his cool, as he was a pyromaniac of integrity who already had his master. His blood boiled just at the idea of betraying his blood origin.
'One can't grow a big fire by constantly making new fireplaces. One has to make a one and then feed it with fuel to nurture it into a true inferno.'
"Ohh, how could I forget... you already have your master. Too bad, but I will not poach. In that case, I will give you a different offer, free me and you and your master will be rewarded."
