Chapter 370 The Forbidden Magic
Chapter 370 The Forbidden Magic
POV Knight Johan:
The clouds constantly thickened, and strong winds loudly howled above the forest. All the trees swayed, their leaves rustling.
"I have a bad feeling above this..." The tall man in his heavy armor plate armor stared upwards from the top of the tall stone wall. Dead bodies lay all over it, blood staining its rough, cliff-like surface.
Everything was gloomy and suspiciously calm. The enemies vanished and retreated back under cover of the woods.
'Why would they stop now? Or was it truly their attack? A few elementals and a small mob of immortals felt too underwhelming after their threats.'
Suddenly a strong wave of mana carrying wind with it swept through the forest, sending waves through the sea of green leaves.
POV Priest Number 3:
All the trees swayed and moved, the large circle of refreshing grey light glowing on the forest soil. The many runes glowed and pulsed.
The muscular men, all shaved, their bodies covered only in rough animal hides, trembled, their eyes pale and bright.
They all rhythmically jumped and swayed around the circle, their muscular arms moving in mystifying wind-like wave patterns.
A strong wind rose, snatching leaves, dry twigs, and even small stones from the ground joined the dance.
An old man with messy hair all the way to his shoulder wearing colorful robes of silk swayed in its center, shaking with his long wooden staff. His eyes brightly glowed with mana, and his faith, his breath unstable from the zeal.
"Ohhh, the great ruler of winds, bless us with your grace! We offer you our bodies! Send us your warriors!" His voice boomed, vanishing into the winds and getting carried far away.
At once, the circle flashed, and all the muscular men collapsed to the ground like puppets whose strings were cut. They were dead, their bodies still and unmoving, with no light in their eyes.
'Did it fail?' The priest shuddered, thinking, 'No, it can't fail! It cost us our strongest warriors! Their sacrifice can't be in vain!'
The corpses twitched just as the priest wanted to despair, and their mouths and eyelids snapped open. The clouds above his head spun, and grey vortexes of wind descended down toward the ground, sucking everything into them, one for each sacrifice.
The priest fell on his knees, his eyes shining in reverence, "The great lord has heard out our humble prayers!"
The forest creaked, and the trees were uprooted and torn out from the soil by the powerful wind.
Debris, boulders, and trees lifted from the ground, all of them sucked into the spinning tornadoes. However, the priest and the corpses remained still, not even his robes swaying as if the wind had avoided them.
Finally, the tornadoes touched the ground, and the dead warriors moved. The winds and tornadoes sucked into their open mouths.
Instantly, everything calmed down, and the winds quieted down. Then at once, the dead rose again, their eyes shining in grey light as if they had small hurricanes spinning in them.
The priest pressed his head against the ground, his voice trembling and filled with zealous, "T-the chosen warriors, go and punish the heretics and defilers of faith!"
POV Vesuvius:
The black hall lit up in golden light as the massive wave of golden flames exploded out from the bipedal form of the dragon. The air, floor, and everything in its path immolated and vanished into nothingness.
As if some invisible binding was destroyed, the dragon's silhouette surrounded by fire and smoke moved. He slowly landed on the bottom of the crater below him.
"No, this is not over! I will strike you down even if I have to sacrifice my tower!" The voice made the dragon look up.
The mage in his robes levitated in the air, his crude staff and the entire tower brightly shining. Mana moved and spiraled as it gathered on the tip of it.
The dragon felt the immense amount of mana sucked and directed by the tower's wall, 'Ohh? So the entire tower is a giant magic focus built just to gather mana into this single chamber, but for what?'
"All the years of my effort, all my sacrifices! All of it destroyed with the brute force of a stupid brute!"
'Really is he having some evil monologue?' Vesuvius didn't wait as his domain moved, directing all the golden fire at the mage. All his patience was gone, only his greed keeping his anger in check and stopping him from unleashing his full power and destroying the entire tower.
'If I do that all of my humiliation and the sacrifices of my minions would be in vain! I will get justice by taking all that belonged to this mage!'
The mage's green eyes flashed, and everything slowed down. The stream of golden fires ascended upwards like a giant wave of gold towards the awaiting mage. The oxygen in the room caught on fire, the fiery explosion expanding and burning everything in its path.
As if a frame was skipped, the mage vanished and appeared right behind the dragon, the wave of flames striking nothing but the air.
A giant sphere of blue mana glowed on the tip of his staff.
It was larger than the mage and so bright it made the sun dark in comparison. The amount of mana in it was so tremendous that the dragon's senses screamed at him in alert.
The air shivered, and the glow was so bright that even the dragon felt the energy wash over his body and sting.
'Instant casting? No, that isn't it. It even skipped all the mana gathering, and that can't be skipped.'
For the first time, his eyes went wide in surprise.
All the weird powers and occurrences he saw in the dungeon finally made sense, 'The regeneration, the instant movement, the restraining powers, and even the weird confusion I felt. This isn't mind magic... this is the legendary, forbidden chronomancy. One of the two magic schools forbidden by the all gods!'
