Chapter 248 The Regional Threat [Bonus]
Chapter 248 The Regional Threat [Bonus]
POV Soon-to-be dead players:
The whole sky burned in flames, the bright light making it look as if it was during the day even though it was deep in the night.
The air was becoming hotter and hotter, the sweat pouring down the soldier's faces as if they were in the middle of a desert.
"This shall be a warning to you! Everyone who attacks what is mine will be destroyed!"
Suddenly the burning clouds whirled with a terrifying black silhouette with purple lines of magma glowing around them descending down. It was huge, the massive burning wings covering the sky.
Its two golden eyes, glowing with immense magical power, flashed in golden light, the whole army freezing for a moment. The armours clanged with the smell of ammonia rising up and mixing with the smell of sulphur.
Everyone was locked in a state of terror.
The players all over the camp froze as they used their analysation.

"Damn, that is a regional threat. We are doomed!"
"What a joke! There is no way that this is just an elder wyrm."
Regional threats were words that carried with them a fearsome reputation. They were terrifying enemies that were strong enough to affect a whole region. Only big guilds or high-level players could think about fighting them.
The huge monster opened its mouth, revealing lines of sharp teeth, and a purple light immediately flooded the sky, everything turning violet.
Blue lights flared up all over the sky as the skyships turned towards the beast, their weapons quickly charging.
The purple light in the monster's mouth kept brightening, the fires concentrating into a massive purple sphere. The air turned even hotter, with fire, smoke and lightning swirling before the monster's mouth, forming a destructive vortex.
The soldiers got out of their shock, hundreds upon hundreds of projectiles launching towards the sky, all of them like a large swarm of fireflies ascending towards the sky.
The sight was beautiful, but at the same time, everyone realized that small projectiles were nothing compared to the mass of armour in the sky.
The projectiles vanished, drowned within the clouds without any traces left after them.
A panic spread through the camp, everyone dropping their weapons and running in all directions like a swarm of maddened bees. The shouts filled the camp.
"Ahhh, why me?!"
"This is not what they promised when I joined the army!"
The purple sphere of flames kept growing more within the teeth-filled mouth. It was stretching in all directions, with its radiance quickly rising. It looked like it was going to pop at any second.
Finally, the sphere flew out of the mouth, descending towards the ground, looking as if the sun was falling on their heads.
It reached the ground in a split of second and burst like a balloon filled with water.
The purple flames exploded in all directions, the purple light becoming so intense that people turned blind and fell screaming on the ground from just looking at the explosion.
A powerful shockwave spread in all directions, carrying flames and heat with itself, sweeping through the tents, soldiers and defences.
All of them vanish, not even ash remaining after them.
The players around the fireplace only blinked, and then everything turned purple.
POV Vesuvius:
The dragon glared at the smouldering, still-burning, magma-filled crater in the middle of the camp. He felt nothing, as if he had just squashed a bunch of ants that weren't even worth a single afterthought of him.
The XP notifications flooded his screen.

Bright blue lights flashed in the sky, blue lines drawing across the sky, forming a large glowing web with the dragon in its centre.
Vesuvius looked at the incoming blue lights and closed his lids, bracing for the upcoming impact.
The explosion of energy passed through his body, the slight pain stabbing him from all directions. He flapped his wings, his massive body bursting from the fallout, the blue energy still lingering on his thick, cracked armour.
He flapped his wings even stronger rising even higher into the sky, his armour covered in dozens of cracks, with large boulders falling towards the ground like meteors.
Magma flowed around the cracks, quickly closing them and repairing them.
The blue lights were already gathering on the ships again, the new bolts of energy quickly concentrating.
'I am no longer so weak!'
His two golden eyes flashed in immensely bright light, the charging of enemies' weapons momentarily stopping.
It was the new evolution of his eyes, Magical Dragon Eyes.
It improved his eyes' ability to work as a medium for spells, highly improving the power of the mind-affecting spell that used them while also making it much easier to see mana around him.
'Just a split second of extra time that enemy will be in out of balance, can mean a death to them.'
The dragon raised his long-clawed hand in a symbolic gesture, his shiny red crystal claws crackling in lightning.
The whole sky crackled with the webbing of lightning spreading in all directions. His horns glowed brightly with all the lightning around him, feeling like it was his own hand.
In an instant, the lightning descended towards the ships from all directions, drowning them in brightly glowing plasma.
Their barriers soon shattered as if they were out of paper, and their burning wreckages fell from the sky, looking like balls of fire.

'How could these humans defeat the dragon before me? Even with dragon-slaying weapons, their numbers, and their toys, it simply doesn't make any sense. There has to be something else in it, but why would the dragon god lie about it?'
By the time the game's beta started, there were no longer any powerful ancient or primal dragons, only much weaker adults that were nothing compared to the ancients.
He could believe that humans, especially the great and powerful empires with resources and knowledge to build contraptions far deadlier than regular skyships, could defeat adult dragons.
Still, he felt there was no way for them to beat stronger ones, causing him to doubt what he knew.
