Chapter 128 The Angelic Wyrm
Chapter 128 The Angelic Wyrm
Vesuvius stood on the flat stone square, surrounding cobblestone glowing in red from the heat. Thick clouds slowly sprawled through the square. The circle of soldiers standing all around him were slowly retreating backwards, widening their encirclement to avoid the smoke. Dozens of sharp spears pointed at the dragon.
''Minion, what is the meaning of this? Why are there so much of demons? Have you betrayed me?''
The woman on the wall trembled as if trying to shrink away, ''Your Highness, I would never betray you! I don't know why but a powerful demon reacted to us opening the portal, even feeding their mana to make it wider!''
The dragon measured her, his eyes trying to discern any sign of her lying, 'It feels like she is telling the truth. But can I trust her? If she betrayed me, then she was able to trick me in the first place, making it likely that she could do it again.' Vesuvius almost felt his head hurting from the paradox in front of him.
Suddenly the dragon burst into laughter, the whole square shaking. The surrounding soldiers took a few steps back in panic, their bodies hunching under pressure radiated from the dragon. The knights on the wall tensed up, the faint aura spreading through their blades, giving them a weak glow.
"Hahaha, very well, I shall help you save this town, but don't even try to think about getting out of this debt!"
Ding!

The dragon unfolded his wings, the smoke around him dispersing, revealing his monstrous armoured body as he bent his legs, springing into the air. The shockwave of his wings sent the soldiers around him tumbling to the ground, remnants of food stands on the square breaking apart.
POV Soldier Pete:
Pete, a tall man wearing a simple gambeson and cheap metal helmet, stood on the wall, holding a large crossbow. His arms were tense as he slowly aligned his crossbow on the giant fiery demon that was easily taller than a tree. Its malevolent red eyes were locked on Pete as it stood there motionlessly, surrounded by a large horde of deformed monstrous demons as if taunting him.
Their red eyes looking at the people don't wall, loud howling and screeches coming from them.
The pungent smell of blood and human feces was rising from viscera spread all over the walls, was everywhere, making Pete to almost vomit, but he calmed his trembling arms and released a bolt from his crossbow.
The bolt whistled through the air, evaporating in the smoke before reaching the demon.
"Grrraaa!" the demo opened its huge mouth filled with needle-like teeth, red liquid flowing in them and let out a high-pitched shriek, causing all of the people on the wall to shiver while covering their ears with their hands.
"Ahhh, just kill us already! Why are you tormenting us." Without any warning, a soldier to his side jumped from the wall. The swarm of demons immediately surrounded him under the walls.
Pete couldn't see what happened, but he could imagine it from the splash of blood that sprayed all the way towards Pete, staining his face in red.
Suddenly the sky glowed in bright yellow colour, the bright light revealing a large winged beast on the sky. Pete lost all of his hope seeing another powerful monster attacking the town, his crossbow falling out of his arms, hitting the puddle of viscera with a disgusting squelch.
The bright yellow stream of magma descended from the sky, the glowing yellow stream raining upon the demons. Clouds of steam rose up from puddles of rainwater as the magma rushed through the bodies of the demons, turning them into motes and disintegrating them in the huge firestorm.
The beast dived downwards, its massive glowing horns visible even from a distance as the thick clouds of smoke around it dispersed. With its huge majestic wings widely spread, mystical bright letters covering them whole, the beast flapped its wings, making a circle around the town.
The thick stream of magma kept surging out of its gaping mouth, creating a river of blazing hot liquid around the walls, separating the demons with an uncrossable border.
'It is not a best, it is an angel!'
With his hope back, Pete fell on his knees, praying, "Ohh, my mighty god of light, I humbly thank you for your angel that descended from the heavens saving us from demons!"
The surrounding soldiers and militia, together with civilians holding provisional weaponry such as large knives, looked at him as if he had gone insane.
"Poor Pete... he must be totally gone to mistake the wyrm from mountains with an angel."
A priest in bright white garbs, unstained by the dirt of the battlefield, pushed himself through the crowd, pointing his copper staff at Pete, who was still kneeling in, "Throw that heretic from the walls!"
"No, he is right! Where were your angels when we were in the time of peril? They are not here. Only the wyrm helped us!" the sound of unsheathing sword came from behind the priest's back, a soldier pointing his sword at the priest's back.
POV Vesuvius:
The dragon circled around the town, looking at the town that looked like it was encircled by glowing yellow lines from the sky.
His focus was primarily on the giant fiery demon outside the town. Its red eyes seemingly penetrated through the layers of clouds, making the dragon feel as if something had watched him.
'I bet this one is commanding this force attacking the town. If I take it down, it should throw the remaining demons into chaos.'
A large magical circle ignited in the dragon's mouth almost instantaneously, the glowing magical letters slowly flashing. The thick stream of magma poured out of his throat, rotating as it condensed into a large yellow sphere.
As if sensing something, the demon flapped its huge flames wings and shot into the air, the red flames exploding all around its pitch-black humanoid body covered in red flames.
