Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 988 Random team division

Chapter 988 Random team division

[Eon's POV: ]

[{ "You two sure look good, hmm? Have you been well?" }]

The vice headmaster, Master Oddfrid, was in charge of Zoe's class.

They were lucky to have her for this common subject since this doesn't happen that often as everyone present here knew about.

[{ "We're doing fine, vice headmaster. The weather is nice, this place looks good, and you look as pretty as usual." }]

She was a pretty person not just because she was an elf, but also because of her unique powers.

[{ "Huhu, don't flatter me like that, you young one. This old lady doesn't really have much to offer anyway." }]

[{ "Everyone would disagree with that vice headmaster, haha." }]

She was the Hero maker of the world, someone who had trained many heroes, many masters and many individuals of great powers.

Not only was she a great teacher, she was a legendary figure herself.

'Having won against countless high ranking demons, having eliminated various monsters of unfathomable nature, and having mastered every weapon that existed in this world… she was an amazing being.'

There were countless things that one could get from her, abstract or concrete.

Just her attention was something as precious as gold so just the fact that she was talking with us with that friendly tone through Celes' connection that she had no need to use, made this experience more valuable for us than most of most others things in this world possibly could.

{ "Alright. Looks like everyone has gathered here." }

The teacher of Carla's class, Sir Scarth, attracted the attention of all the students on the ground with his powerful voice.

[{ "Hmmm… you two must already know about the procedure for the battles, right?" }]

[{ "You mean the planning and stuff?" }]

[{ "Yes, the 'planning' and stuff." }]

I couldn't talk with her as casually as Rein does… the entire dynamics these two had were unique actually.

'If I was closer to the headmaster, Rein and Master Oddfrid were quite close to one another as well.'

Rein had lived for a long time, and she had been on the battlefield for a long time, so the headmaster had asked the vice headmaster to regularly check up on her.

'She was like Rein's counsellor of a sort.'

They occasionally talk privately, and they share their past experiences with one another.

Vice headmaster is the second most important authority of this school and this island. And she is also someone who had taught not just Rein's grandpa and Emperor August, but also many people from Rein's past.

'Both of them go along well, and sometimes, it's quite fun seeing these two fighting with each other like children.'

Leaving that aside…

{ "We will now divide everyone in different teams. These teams will go against one another and fight in a battle under the supervision of the Leader that will be chosen by the groups themselves.

There's going to be one Leader and that one leader will have the authority to assign various roles to the rest of the group members.

We won't make things complicated for you, but, to make things interesting, we will be counting points based on the group's performance. And the total of these points will distributed within the group according to the members' contribution." }

'Oh?'

I looked around myself and found most of the students were either stunned or were happy to hear this news.

The fact that we could get Class points by just fighting in this battle and doing well excited many of them, and since they said that the group's combined performance score will be divided within the group, we now knew there was a chance to get more than one class point, something precious for most of the students present here.

{ "There will be twenty one teams and each team will have different number of students, however, to make things easier, each team will have these assistants." }

The teacher revealed the artificial helpers that we had seen many times around the academy's indoor training areas.

These artificial creatures, mainly made with a great intelligence, were beings that could help us in various ways with their great understanding of various elements of this academy, as well as with the various functions that they were equipped with.

{ "The goal would be to occupy the central territory that will appear after you are divided into groups.

This territory being the goal, the teams will be scattered in various positions across this battlefield and you can use any means necessary to win this battle.

Using anything you can use is permitted, however, we do not encourage teaming up with the other groups at least for this battle practice.

Try to think of this practice as an experience of a battlefield where you are all by yourself.

Where the Enemies are the bane of your existence and the Allies that you have are the friends that you Should trust with your life." }

One of the teachers called out their Mana and at some distance, two pillars rose from the ground.

These pillars shot up two distinct red-blue lights and these lights fell down where we had been standing.

{ "For those who do not know much about the battlefields, this might be a new experience but remember that your Own life is the most important thing on a battlefield if you aren't fighting for something or someone else." }

Anyone these droplets of red-blue lights touched vanished from their places, so, it was obvious that the division had already begun.

{ "A battlefield is not only about physical battles, Children. Remember that." }

-Ooooooooooong!

Before vanishing, I looked at Rein since I knew this was going to be a random distribution and the chances that we wouldn't be on the same team were quite high.

'Winner gets two coins.'

We didn't need words. That eye contact was more than enough.

'Three.'

She didn't mind a competition either, she had a feeling that we might not be on the same team as well.

'You know I'm not going to risk that, right?'

The coins that we have, the unique game that we have been playing since my first birthday together, had been on a standby for a while, but it was going to be a lifelong game.

And this wasn't a bad place to compete against one another.

'Alright two.'

A blue drop of light fell on her, while at the same time, a red drop of light fell on me as well.

We didn't know if this really meant we would be on the different teams but, this was a random distribution.

The drops were just the system that they were using to teleport students from here to a different, common point from where they would be divided into a set number of teams and would then be sent to their dedicated team locations.

'Good luck then.'

'You too~!'

Each one of us would be against one another for this training.

The teachers will keep an eye on everything that goes on as they grade us, so we don't have to worry about them.

What we have to do instead would be to check what kind of team we had and what we could do with the people that we have.

'This was the first time we were going to train on such a large scale, so many of us were excited for many of the reasons.'

-Ooooooooooooooong!

I was looking forward to winning this battle as well. And for that, I was looking forward to meeting my teammates.

But…

"Hmmm?"

When I was teleported and opened my eyes, the face that I saw for the first time was none other than the face that I had looked at before vanishing.

"What the? We're on the same team?"

Rein was staring before me, and behind her were the rest of the bunch that we will be leading, one of whom was Eula, Rein's vice captain and Ball, my ace.

The rest of the students were surprised to see both of us here, this came as a shock to both of them who might have expected us to go in different teams.

But we all knew this was a random distribution with not even the teachers having any control over it.

"Man… what now?"

But, we were together. And that wasn't going to change anymore.

"New rules. The one with more contribution gets the coins."

"Hmm? Hey! That's not fair then!"

"What's not fair? We don't even know who the leader will be yet."

"I don't wanna be the leader! I'll go there and destroy everyone else!"

"Oh you can do whatever you want. But, that will only be possible if the leader wants it."

Now… the first tricky part starts for the students and us.

"I can't be the leader either."

I can help the one who's assuming the leader role but I'm not going to be the leader and Rein wasn't going to either.

The students of this group can decide who they want to make the leader and according to the majority of the votes, we will see who gets that position and what position that chooses for us.

But, one thing's for sure.

"Please gather around, everyone."

The one with the leader position will be in charge of two main things: assigning important roles to the people of this team, as well as staying alive until the bitter end.

'If this simulation is going to be anything like a real battle, then the death of a group leader would mean defeat of the group itself.'

So, I can't be the leader since I'll need freedom of movement to keep the leader alive, and since Rein has the most firepower, we had to let her run freely.

'The goal is to occupy the centre region that we all can see right now from the top of a ridge that we are standing on, and to reach there, we will first have to climb down this steep wall.'

But before we do that, we need a leader.

One that will be smart and capable at that.

Eula and Ball weren't a good choice here… someone with more experience was better for that important position.
