Chapter 244: Buer

Chapter 244: Buer

"What hunting game? Tell us more," asked Zhang Bao'er curiously.

"I've heard some stories from the elders of our Sacred Wing race. In the universe, there is a set of hidden celestial-grade hunting rules. However, these rules are only valid among high-tier species. All high-tier species have a tacit understanding regarding the rules," said Temo.

"I don't understand. Honored Temo, can you explain in more detail?" asked Dodo.

"It's perfectly normal that you don't understand. The rules are a form of protecting the warriors of the universe. If someone decides to charge into the enemy lair alone, that person will be classified as a warrior after killing the first enemy. This action is considered a declaration of war. Thus, the enemy is not allowed to encircle the lone attacker. Instead, they can only send out powerful individuals to have a one-on-one match with the attacker. At the same time, the attacker can only face the challengers and not kill any other person," said Temo.

"What an odd rule. How are you sure that these flying beasts are high-tier species? If you were wrong, wouldn't that cause unintended consequences?" asked Dodo in astonishment.

"Generally, flight-capable species will be of a higher tier. That is why I had decided to take a bet," said Temo confidently.

"That's way too unreliable. I reckon those flying beasts must have seen your people before. That's the only reason you were able to use this rule against them. Otherwise, they wouldn't have spared you," said Old Du.

"Yeah. Also, Anxashe was clearly the one who had killed that beast. Why are you pretending to be a warrior here? What are you supposed to do when they send a stronger beast over?" said Zhang Bao'er, piling criticisms on Temo.

However, Temo merely maintained a smug look and did not say anything.

"Stop arguing, everyone. If a stronger beast appears later, it will prove that he's right. Whatever we say, Temo did help us avoid a battle. We need to consider if we should keep waiting here or advance toward the building." Old Du glanced at the distant flying beasts. "It's very hard to approach that building in broad daylight. There are too many patrols around it," said Old Du as he glanced at the distant flying beasts.

"Why don't we change our hiding spot? It's too risky to stay in the same spot," said Zhang Bao'er. His suggestion was quite reasonable.

"No. Hiding is the action of a deserter, not a warrior. We must wait here for their challenger to appear. If I win, there won't be anyone else appearing to stop our advance," said Temo stubbornly.

"Stop bluffing. With your tiny frame, how can you win? Even if you really can win, what can you do by entering the building alone? Canyue, I think we should move away as fast as possible," said Zhang Bao'er.

"Temo, Zhang Bao'er makes sense. You had merely succeeded by lying. It won't work twice," I said.

Temo was obviously unhappy that he was being criticized by those from a low-tier civilization. He had a stubborn expression on his face as he stood still, refusing to move. This concerned our safety, so I couldn't keep wasting time here with this high-tier species.

I signaled Zhang Bao'er and Sarje with my eyes. The two instantly understood me and rushed forth to lift Temo up before leaving. It was comforting to see that Temo hadn't put up much of a struggle. I guessed that he had understood his mistake and merely needed an excuse to leave with us.

We picked up our equipment, removed the black tarp, and left. The flying beast's corpses were left behind. Old Du and I were in charge of bringing up the rear. Through my laser probe, I found with astonishment that all the flying beasts were assembling at the distant building, as though they were all done patrolling.

"Old Du, do you see that? Why are those beasts returning to the building?" I asked.

"I saw that. It is too weird. They shouldn't pull back their patrols at times like this. Something must have happened," said Old Du doubtfully.

"It doesn't matter anymore. Let's leave quickly. We'll make our move when it's dark," I said. The two of us started rapidly moving away.

Because the laborers couldn't move fast, we were only able to travel less than 10 kilometers after half an hour. Loud sounds of collision suddenly came from the distance.

"What's that? Is that the stronger challenger you mentioned?" I asked Temo, who was slumped over Sarje's shoulder.

"Hehe. Looks like these flying beasts really aren't that impressive. Since they don't have any warriors among their race, they sent a buer out to battle for them. According to the rules, there will only be one buer. The other beasts have to return to their base and wait there," said Temo smugly.

"You're right. We had seen all the beasts returning to their base," I said.

"Get everyone to start hiding. Buers have bad eyesight, but they're very fast. If it finds us, things will be troublesome," said Temo.

My heart skipped a beat as I hurriedly ordered everyone to stop. Old Du and I speedily erected a shelter with the tarp which everyone hastily hid under. The moment we went underneath it, a figure the size of a hill appeared where we had previously taken shelter.

Old Du and I were prone at the edge of our shelter. When we saw the terrifying life form that had appeared, we broke out into cold sweat. The beast planet's ground was smooth and sleek. Thus, even though we were nearly 10 kilometers away, we could still clearly see the hill-sized black figure.

Everyone turned on their laser probes to observe the newcomer. With our probes, we could clearly see the buer's outline. This was a creature whose head couldn't be seen. Its body was black, and random black holes were constantly appearing all over its body. Each black hole would not remain for more than 30 seconds before vanishing. The buer also did not seem to have any legs. It was crawling forward on the ground.

The buer had reached our previous shelter. With one look, it noticed the six flying beast corpses on the ground. The buer was probably feeling like it had been tricked, and it looked up and roared. Even more surprisingly, its color changed from black to yellow.

"Shit! Why is this happening? It's going to be troublesome," said Temo, sounding nervous for the very first time.

"Temo, what's going on?" I asked.

"Like I said, we can't go against the rules of the game. I heard that buer's regular color is black and that red is its battle color. However, I have never personally seen a yellow buer before. This is a color representing all or nothing, signifying a fight to the death," said Temo in a vexed manner.

"Fight to the death? So be it. What am I afraid of? We're already hiding. If it asks for help to look for us, that will also break the rules," said Zhang Bao'er.

"It won't leave before putting an end to us. And without putting an end to it, we won't have any chance to approach the base. It's better for us to withdraw," said Temo, advocating something that was the opposite of his previous position.

"Canyue, this monster is too ferocious. I don't know if we can actually complete our mission. There's only one here, but we still don't know how many of them they have in the base," said Old Du.

"There are probably three buers in this area. That tailed big guy is right. Our best option now is to retreat," said Temo, reiterating his point of view.

Hearing multiple suggestions to retreat, I wavered and started considering changing our plan.

"Canyue, I killed the flying beast. Let me face this buer," Anxashe suddenly requested.

His declaration created a big ruckus in the group.

"That is basically suicide," said Temo coldly.

"Brother, don't be rash. That big guy doesn't look like something you can shoot to death with your bow and arrow," said Zhang Bao'er nervously.

"Yeah. Keep calm. We still need your help during many other important missions," I said. I did not agree with Anxashe taking such a risk.

"Canyue, since this is a game between high-tier races in the universe, us Wargods can not allow those from the so-called star-level civilizations to look down on us. If I don't kill that fellow with my own hands, I will be too ashamed to return to Rumble," said Anxashe unyieldingly.

After Anxashe finished his words, I saw respect fill the eyes of the Wargods around him, and I understood that this wasn't a decision I could change.

Anxashe said, "Take the chance to retreat while I'm fighting it. Don't worry about me."

"You can't be serious. Canyue, are you really going to let Anxashe throw his life away?" said Zhang Bao'er in astonishment.

"I can't stop Anxashe any more than I can stop you from bickering with Domo every single day. Perhaps this is his fate," I said.

Everyone sank into silence. At that moment, the distant buer roared loudly, seemingly furious over the fact that it had been tricked.

"Canyue, it's time. I'll go. You guys should retreat quickly with the tarp," said Anxashe.

"Anxashe, if you charge out, you might also expose our location," Dodo reminded.

Anxashe gave it some thought before drawing an arrow from his back.

After nocking the arrow on his bow, he looked back at us and said, "Farewell, my friends."

Immediately after, he unleashed his arrow. The arrow whistled loudly through the air toward a spot opposite us. At the same time, Anxashe also darted in that direction.

"Anxashe!" Zhang Bao'er cried emotionally.

"Sigh. What a stubborn fellow." Temo shook his head.

I ordered, "Everyone, move with the tarp. We'll leave this place for now."

Everyone did as told and lifted the tarp before withdrawing. Behind us, loud collisions rang out, accompanied by the buer's roars. I knew that a battle to the death had begun.

'Anxashe, return alive!' I thought inwardly.
