Chapter 22: Dragon Priest
“If you were someone who trusts others easily, you would have walked into Thorns.”
“But the person who will be welcoming you definitely isn’t a warm friendly old dwarf. Instead, it would be a mean bartender with a whole hall full of villains and thieves who are prepared to pounce on you.”
“Don’t be too shocked. Thorns is a joint meant for trapping innocent passersby.”
“Well of course, if you were someone who was suspicious of others and thought that the old man was lying to you, which is why you wanted to trick him back, the situation would be a little different.”
“When you walk into Green Dragon Princess, you will definitely regret not listening to the old man’s words and even think that you have misjudged a kind person who was trying to help you.”
“This is because… Green Dragon Princess is also a slaughterhouse.”
In a warm and dry wooden house.
A woman who had green eyeshadow slowly walked towards him with a bubbling green drink in her hands. She placed it in front of Roger and gave a pleasant smile.
“Luckily, you are smarter than both the type of people that I mentioned.”
“Welcome to Dragon Tooth Village.”
Roger slightly nodded his head as a sign of appreciation.
He took the drink in his hands but did not drink it.
The woman wasn’t bothered about it as well. She gently fixed her long black hair and sat down in front of him.
“My name is Cindy and I’m the chief of this village.”
She smiled as she introduced herself.
“There were two kids from our village that saw you this morning. You gave them quite a shock.”
“But please don’t misunderstand them, they were just following the corpse from the Jackal Monsters Settlement which was why they met you.”
“If you don’t mind, how should I address you?”
Roger was not planning on hiding anything and told her his name.
...
About ten minutes before this, Roger arrived at the Dragon Tooth Village.
After telling the guards about why he was there, the person whom he saw next was this lady named Cindy.
Cindy was in her thirties with a beautiful face and an alluring body.
The upper part of her body was only covered by a light green-coloured tube that showed her fair humps and her mischievous belly.
As for the bottom half, she had put on a grass skirt made out of reeds. There was something hidden under that skirt which made it impossible for anyone to have not had any imaginations about it.
However, Roger didn’t dare to look down at the woman standing in front of him.
The Qi Divination Technique showed that her profession was Dragon Priest.
As for the columns to her level, HP and special traits were all filled with question marks.
This meant that either Cindy’s strength was much stronger than his or that she had some secret skills that helped her resist from being analyzed by the Qi Divination Technique.
Whichever it was, it still meant that this woman was not as simple as how she looked.
Roger was extremely cautious as he interacted with Cindy.
During their conversation.
Roger told Cindy according to his previous story that he was an adventurer from the West of the Great Wetland.
He and his teammates were chasing after the Jackal Monsters.
And he decided to come by himself to see if there were any human settlements where he could replenish his supplies.
...
“Adventurer from the West?”
“Teammates chasing after the Jackal Monsters?”
Cindy’s face revealed an irresistible smile.
She stared at Roger and said, “You are definitely the most prudent adventurer I have ever seen.”
Roger remained silent.
“However, you are not from the West and you don’t have any teammates. All the Jackal Monsters died because of you alone, am I right?”
Cindy placed one of her long, fair leg on top of the other and continued in a light tone.
“I’m not questioning you by saying all these — you definitely should be cautious while being alone in the wild.”
“I just wanted to tell you to relax, we mean no harm.”
Roger looked at her big, bright eyes and suddenly said,
“You went to the Jackal Monsters Settlement?”
“Yes.”
Cindy honestly replied.
“When the two of them told me what happened, I went to the settlement to take a look myself.”
“In the end, I only found traces of a one-man show.”
Roger nodded his head and continued asking,
“Then, what’s wrong with saying that I was an adventurer from the West?”
Cindy smiled. She picked up the cup in front of her, took a sip, and said,
...
“There aren’t any more adventures from the West.”
“It has already become the territory of [Lord of the Evil Spirit]. There isn’t anyone who can walk in or out of that place now.”
Roger was stunned at first, but he felt relaxed soon after.
At least he didn’t make a logical mistake, all he did was give the wrong information.
This was unavoidable upon arriving at a new place.
“I have a commission that I would like to propose.”
Cindy suddenly blurted out of nowhere.
Roger was shocked, knowing that something major was coming.
This woman had been talking to him for so long, there definitely had to be some conspiracy.
“Let’s hear it.” He didn’t directly reject her.
Cindy nodded her head and said in a stern tone,
...
“The elderly man that you meant on Lettuce Avenue is called Humphrey”
“He is the biggest villain on Yellow Stone Island. Green Dragon Princess and Thorns are both his properties.”
“Towards the adventurers that pass by, he has always been cruel to them. Murders and robberies were a daily norm for him.”
“He is also very mean towards the other residents on the island.”
“Recently, he has been gathering a group of refugees from the marshlands and they have been disturbing our villagers. I’m worried that this would cause harm to our villagers in the near future which is why I am hoping that you could help me get rid of him.”
After hearing what she said, Roger did not say a single word.
Cindy smiled as she took out things from the shelves and placed them in front of Roger.
“What does this mean?” Roger asked.
“The rewards for the commission. You can choose one thing that you like.”
Cindy pointed at the first item — a simple wooden sign and said,
“This is a precious ticket. With this, you can head over to the taming master at the southern side of Yellow Stone Island and you can have a ride on the Flying Dragon Express. The flying dragon will bring anywhere you want in the Great Wetlands. Well… except for the West.”
Then she picked up the second object — a delicate silver ring.
“This is the Imperial Wind Ring. It is a top-class magic tool. Along with its specific enchantments, you would be able to control the wind.”
Then, she placed her hand on a yellowish parchment.
“The map to the Green Dragon Temple, known as the biggest treasure land on the Great Wetlands. Although I only have half of it, it is still a priceless piece.”
In the end, she gently pointed at herself.
Roger was stunned for a moment.
“The last choice would be me.”
The Dragon Priest gently bit on her lips and her long, slim fingers swept across the light green tube top across her chest. She slowly tilted her body forward which created a huge visual impact.
“I will not disappoint you.”
Her tone eventually became flirtatious.
The shadow that had been moving the entire time finally showed its true form.
It was a long, slick tail that was covered with scales.
Roger gently coughed and pushed away the Dragon Priest that was pressing onto him.
“I’m sorry, but… this is not my area of expertise… uh… that’s not….”
“Anyway, I refuse.”
...
In the end, Roger managed to exchange some food and fresh water with the fresh lettuce that he got from before.
The only reason why he didn’t accept Cindy’s request was —
He wasn’t an assassin.
He doesn’t even know much about Humphery.
All that he knew about him was mainly from what Cindy had said.
Although Roger did notice the bloody scent coming from both the motels when he passed by.
That didn’t mean that Cindy wasn’t lying or hid any important information.
In conclusion, from Roger’s point of view.
This commision was risky and the benefits from it were minimal. There was no reason for him to accept it.
However, he did get some very important information from Cindy.
There was a taming master on Yellow Stone Island.
She had domesticated a group of flying dragons that could send people to anywhere in the Great Wetlands.
