Harry Potter: Blood of the Dragon

Chapter 53 - 53. Computers = Future

Chapter 53 - 53. Computers = Future

That night, after the Mind Arts training. Magnus opened the Computer Science book and started studying it. The more he read, the more excited he felt. It showed how to communicate with machines, the use of 0s and 1s. It was new to him but so much exciting.

But, when he read that most of the research was going on in America, he felt a bit saddened, why the hell were people of his country not investing in this? ??

~Hmm, this Intel company seems interesting. They are going to introduce the world's first microprocessor, the Intel 4004. Can I buy the company? OH! They are going public this month? Wait, what does going public mean...~

Frustratingly, Magnus got out of his bed and went out. Snape and Ragnar had already fallen asleep. It was 1 in the night and all activities had stopped. But he needed to get to the Library.

"Where are you going?" Merlin asked suddenly.

"To the library. I need some books on business management." Magnus said.

"Then I will follow you. Hogwarts can be very dangerous at times." Merlin warned and started following him through all the different portraits. Arthur was sleeping so he did not.

Magnus sneakily went out and headed to the library. It was prohibited to head out in the night and Argus Filch, the caretaker, was also on the rounds at this time. But Magnus was not much worried about anybody seeing him. After all, the beardy old man was nearly a family.

He appeared at the Library. It was closed but a simple Alohamora charm did the job of opening it. However, the restricted section was still closed with different magic. He went in there and started looking for books.

"Hmm, it's been a while since I came here. I've read all the books here, most are useless. The ones that were good have been taken inside the headmaster's office." Merlin muttered loudly.

"Does this place have a book on muggle studies?" Magnus inquired.

"I don't know. I never saw anything related to muggles here except the bible." Merlin said from one of the nearby portraits.

"Was Jesus a wizard?" Magnus inquired.

"I don't know. I was born much after his death. Though I do believe in god, I think I had a run-in with him once. He looked old and kind." Merlin replied.

Magnus was taken aback. "Woah, so god is real? Should I start going to church?"

"Haha, I don't think he really cares about that. Going to Church was a concept that humans created. He only tells us to be good and not commit sins." Merlin clarified.

Putting this aside, Magnus started looking for some books. But, there were none. Not a single business-related book. All he could find related to that was the history of some wizarding companies.

"Where can I find these books in the school?" Magnus inquired.

"Hmmm... wait... I know a place. I made it after all, how could I have forgotten this. Go to the 7th floor." Merlin spoke quickly. He seemed rather excited.

Magnus didn't ask what it was and went to the seventh floor. He had enough trust that Merlin wouldn't put him in some trouble.

Soon, by Merlin's direction, he arrived at a dead end. "Now, what?"

"Okay, I want you to think about the books you need and go back and forth 3 times in front of this wall," Merlin instructed him.

Magnus was not so sure about this now, "Have you finally gone senile? I'm not Arthur who would be fooled so easily."

"Heh, you got my blood, boy. You can't be as dumb as him. Now, do it. I guarantee a surprise." Merlin insisted.

Seeing the eagerness in Merlin's voice. Magnus did as asked. He thought about all kinds of business management books and walked in front of the wall three times.

Just as he had completed the third walk, he noticed a different pattern appearing on the wall. It seemed to be like a door. He went ahead and opened it. Inside, he found a huge library. It looked modern with lights and some tables and chairs.

Merlin announced, "Welcome to the room of requirement. also known as the Come and Go Room, which only appears when a person is in great need of it. The room is supposed to have some degree of sentience because it transforms itself into whatever the witch or wizard needs it to be at that moment in time, although there are some limitations. For example, it cannot create food."

"Wait, can it produce anything I need, even if I do not know the details about it?" Magnus asked.

"Sure, I had to use all my brain power to come up with the rune scheme used to make this place. It took me 4 years to make. Then 5 more to perfect it." Merlin replied.

"Cool, if what you said is true then this room is going to be a huge help to me and my new group. Okay, let's start reading." He folded his sleeves and took a few books.

He read them for a few hours and got a general understanding of many financial terms.

"Hmm, can the room of requirement generate a financial statement of a company?" He wondered and decided to try it.

So, he went out and again repeated the process. He thought about Intel's 1970-71 financial statement and IPO details. Then, he opened the door. Inside, there was just a single file, resting on the floor. Magnus took it and started reading it.

"Oh, this seems real. Hmm, so they have been running low on funds due to all the research needed. Good, maybe I can strike up an early deal and buy a big stake in the company, as long as I get to be on the Board of Directors and know the new advancements, I can have an edge on all." He thought.

So, he closed everything and decided to go to sleep. He would write a letter to Bobby the next day.

...

The next day, fresh in the morning, Magnus got Bobby's letter at the breakfast table. He was hoping to write one already.

Magnus read everything and got excited about what Bobby had decided. So, he wrote a letter back.

[Letter]

"Bobby, stop eating sweets, you are turning senile. Why do you sound so formal? Wait, are you even Bobby? Where is my brother, fat, chubby and goofy, Bobby? I swear, whoever you are if you did anything to him, I will make you eat a thousand cheeseburgers and turn you fatter than that Vernon kid I saw in the park.

"Now, to the main topic. I AM FILTHY RICH, Bobby. Like, super-duper rich. I don't even know what to do with so much wealth. So, yes, I will invest, and no, you don't have to pay back. You keep the majority stake in the company, you are the founder after all. I just read the book you sent me, I am so excited about computers. When I return, we will work on it together.

But, there is something else. Starting a company from scratch can be hard, so I have decided to invest in Intel and slowly we will devour that company while you grow yours slowly. Intel is going public soon, look for a book if you don't know what it means. I will talk to a lawyer I know who is both a wizard and a lawyer. He will help you with everything.

I have found a way to get all kinds of books to read, and have learned a great deal about the business. Technology is the way to the future, brother. So, I have decided to use this money to put it to good use. In the coming years, I will be making lots of investments in companies around the world. All of them will fall under the Futuretek Industries that you are creating. Just make me the second partner in that company with veto power. We will revolutionise the world, Bobby.

Until then, I will make arrangements to send money to you for your personal project. It will take a few days though, as I can not get out of school every day. You can also ask my dad if you need something, also, teach my dad about computers, I can see so much implication of computers in the field of engineering. Also, it can help mom. The possibilities are endless and the sky is the limit.

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE.

The one who taught you to ride a bicycle,

Magnus.
