Global Awakening: Monster Taming Necromancer

Chapter 68 : Korvath

Chapter 68 : Korvath

When the spirit told them this was a stage that couldn't be cleared, maybe it was right because no matter how hard they tried, looked, they didn't see any Onus, and they ended the first day not finding the monster but there were lots of others monsters to keep them company.

Even at night, before they fully settled, they did a little more search, but it was all for nothing. The next day started the same, with them looking around the swamp forest– the good thing is that they were now used to walking in the swamp.

By early afternoon, they had their breakfast for the day and rested a bit before they continued, and that's when they stumbled into a horde of monsters.

It was in a clearing that was dryer than most places in the swamp forest with small boulders. Unfortunately for them they had walked smacked in the monster's territory without them even knowing.

Dile eventually noticed, but they had reached the monsters' lair at this time before he pointed it out. Temur groaned and told them to silently go back before they noticed them.

But the monsters are Korvath– big bear like monsters with horns– and known for their strong sense of smell. They also hunt in packs.

They heard the first growl behind them and turned sharply, a Korvath with fiery red fur raised paw the size of plates and reached out from behind a tree. The monster was easily thirteen feet long, with horns that jutted out.

Another joined that one, and then another, and then another, until Korvath surrounded them in a blaze of red fur. Temur raised his sword and his eyes narrowed. "They are B Iron rank monsters, but their aggressiveness usually makes them appear stronger. There are too many of them, we'll just go at them. Let's watch each other's backs and don't fight out of sight."

Jael felt the goblins in the space eager for more blood but he smirked instead and converted Hermit to strength. "Sorry guys, but these are for me. Time to unwind."

The monsters growled and roared together as one and then ran forward, their weight strong enough to shake the ground and trample any undergrowth.

"Now!" Temur bellowed and threw himself at the monsters; he engaged the first one by jamming his sword into its shoulder, and the monster retaliated by twisting sharply downwards and then erupting upward in a shower of claws and fangs.

Temur danced back gracefully, moving as if he was no lighter than a feather, and when he went it again, he targeted the same shoulder and cut its left arm clean off. Hot blood fell in a splatter, and the monster let out an angry, pained yelp.

The monster swiped at his head and met claws with sword, but the strength behind each was different, and he staggered a bit; the monster used that to its advantage and lunged forward, jaws snapping. So Temur did the only thing he could, he thrust his sword straight forward.

The sword went through fleshly gum and fangs, then punched through the skull. Temur quickly removed the sword and himself before the weight fell on him.

"Wow." He breathed through his mouth, marveling at the amount of blood on him. While he was fighting the monster, the others also had his back.

Litha didn't take a defensive position this time. She covered herself in a thin layer of the blue shield as if it was finely woven armor, and then she went ahead hand-to-hand with the monsters.

The monsters are far stronger than her, but she is very good at weaving mana, and the monsters are only strong if she lets them hit her. With Mama gathered around her feet, she uncoiled forward like a free spring; she grazed the Korvath's forward swipe and got into its guard.

She rested her palm on its chest as if she wanted to tap it, and then she released a hot, blinding mana bolt directly above its heart. Ribs snapped like twigs, and flesh melted under the searing heat, and the monster slumped.

Litha didn't wait for the body to finish dropping before she jumped at another one.

Cele and Tim are working together. Tim was helping by controlling the range of her fire since she could easily affect the others in a close fight like this. Would drag the monsters closer with telekinesis, and she would pump them full of fire and burn them to charred meat.

The smell of cooked meat would also bring more of them to Cele and Tim and they would roast those too. It's almost like a circle.

Meanwhile, Dile was fighting like a beast. His claws are even longer than those of the Korvath and burned with red energy like molten metal.

Dile and one Korvath growled at each other, their chest revibrating with it and then they flung themselves at each other like some rabid dogs.

Claws flashed, and fangs snapped; one was pure monstrosity strength, and one the other was reinforced by mana. The two met, and a red light blasted between the two and cut forward with ten fiery lights. The Korvath was cut in ten clean places as if a butcher had taken a knife to it.

Jael was using his transformed hand and with Hermit in all strength, he was on a roll. He cut and sliced and pierced, then sent out a bolt of unholy magic that cooked flesh.

"Grahhhh!" The ground suddenly shook, and the wind blew as if a giant fan was used. The fighting stopped briefly and the remaining bear ran.

Litha exchanged a glance with Jael. "Let me guess. The boss, or their alpha is here." She rolled her eyes and prepared a big orb of mana that floated above her head.

The boss was just like the other Korvath except that its fur was black, and it had more horns; also, the aura that surrounded it wasn't a weak one.

Litha came forward and it was that time it happened.
