Chapter 66: Spider monkey
Chapter 66: Spider monkey
Jael knew wherever he heard Litha sound like that, it usually means they should start panicking so he left the hacking to his goblins and turned.
A monster loomed above them, it looks like a cross between a lanky monkey and the spider like monster they were fighting. The brown dry skin and seven or so hands from its back looks familiar.
But it's head was like that of a monkey with eyes that shone a blue so deep its almost black. "Gra?" The monster growled. It has been roused from sleep after all.
"A spider monkey?" Litha asked, she was already moving backwards.
The monster reached down with two hands and got hold of one of the frozen spider monster, it lifted it up and tore it into two with one casual pull and began to feast.
Temur didn't need to give the signal as they all began to run. Jael flew over the swamp land, his legs barely making an impression on the soft soil, his goblins have returned to the spatial space with his Codex so he focused on himself.
Then they heard the sounds of trees crashing together and a low moaning roar followed, the ground trembled with each movement of the spider monkey as it took after them.
Although they are faster than the monster, it's taller than them by several feet with longer legs and it quickly catch up with them. The monster ran alongside them, flashing fangs that jutted out of its lower jaws.
"Stop!" Temur called suddenly and they all slowed, dodging from running into each other. "Battle formation! Now!"
The monster took a few steps before it stopped, uprooting two trees in that manner but it turned quickly, raising its spider hands sharply and turned on them.
Litha made a shield around herself and Cele while the others went forward. Jael and Tim led the way, their job is to distract the spider monkey while Temur and Dile deal damage.
Jael transformed his hand to a sword and covered it with green fire and at the same time called his three goblins. Immediately the warchief saw the spider monkey it let out a roar and pounced on. The two collided with a thud that chun the land around them.
Three hands with razor claws came down on the goblin and opened flesh that was quickly regenerated by green fire. The goblin opened its mouth wide and then clamp tightly on one of the spider monkey's leg.
The other goblins joined the fight with nothing but their hands and claws. Jael told the others to wait and watch what the goblins will do instead.
The warchief showed it's rank as a S Iron monster as it pounced on the monster, punches rained down on the chest of the spider monkey and it moved back to give space between itself and the other monsters.
The goblins and the spider monkey stared at each other, none of them moving. The spider monkey moved first, it's body ripped and then it began to shrunk, the hands joined together until only two pairs remained and the spider monkey itself got to the size of the goblins.
Jael sent mana through their connection and the war chief roared, using its skills of freezing. The spider monkey froze, eyes still locked on the goblins, mouth stiffened in an open roar.
"How will this play out." Temur said, his sword still in his hands. The others didn't relax either just because the goblins are fighting the spider monkey.
The goblins fanned out with the warchief in the center, they walked forward with the confidence of a predator that has caught prey.
Immediately the goblin warrior on the left got close the spider monkey pounced, body moving with graceful violence as it shrugged off the warchief's skill. Jaws opened wide and the goblin couldn't react in time to save its head from getting crushed between rows of fangs.
Jael flinched as his connection to that warrior goblin was cut off sharply, 'so that bastard isn't really affected by the warchief's cry. It was pretending to lure them closer! How dare you kill my goblin!'
"Sorry." Litha whispered as the monster tore into the dead goblin, breaking bones and flesh apart like it was made of papers.
Jael watched how the rest of the goblins will react. This was the first time he would truly study one of his undead in action and he wanted to see how much bond got transferred over death between the goblin warchief and its warrior.
The goblin chief froze, it's green flamed burning eyes locked on the monster eating one of his warriors then it reached out towards the connection between it and its master and pulled.
Jael grunted. "What...."
The goblin mentally pulled again and Jael realized what it wanted. Unholy magic bellowed around the warchief, smoldering in its eyes and lighting up its veins. It's hand formed a punch and the mana quickly concentrated there, Unholy magic that formed like metal glove.
Jael smiled. "You want to have fun? Well then, enjoy!" The ground beneath the last goblin warrior swallowed it leaving only the chief and the spider monkey alone. "Let's see what two S Iron monster can do!"
The spider monkey finally left his undead food and looked up at the new threat, just in time to avoid a punch to the face, green fire hissed few inches to its head but the punch continued uninterrupted and ground, it tore it open, digging deep into the swapy lands.
The warchief stood cover in mud and green fire its eyes scanning the trees for the spider monkey because it took off into the trees imimmediately.
The goblin took a few steps forward then suddenly it was flipped over by the feet, dragged and left dangling up in the tree by a translucent string.
Jael wasn't expecting that but he should have, an S Iron like the spider monkey will surely have a few skills under its belt.
