Chapter 406 Rolling In The Deep
Chapter 406 Rolling In The Deep
'F-Fallen Wings!'
Realizing that he couldn't even block the open jaws of the darned shark as it was way bigger than him, Shye had no choice but to activate his wings.
*FWOOSH!*
Then, with one mighty flap, he easily dodged the shark's leaping chomp attack.
Falling back onto the rock tip, cold sweat streamed from Shye's pores.
This time, he clearly saw the multiple rows of teeth inside the shark's mouth and was certain that if he ended up inside, he would be instantly torn to shreds despite his current 300 vitality points.
Still, he knew that it would simply be a matter of time before he perished should he stay idle, thus, he resolved himself to slowly deal damage to the darned shark even if it meant that he would have to take a plunge back to the dark seas for a few moments after doing so.
Standing atop the rounded rock tip, Shye relied on the mana pulses to track the movements of the Selachimorpha.
The sea was once again eerily silent.
Despite knowing where his adversary was, the darkness and the silent stillness of the pitch-black body of water gnawed at Shye's sanity and resolve.
Oh, how he wished the shark would just attack continuously instead of circling him a few times before striking again.
He despised the brief serene moments of utter darkness, as they not only chipped away at his sanity but also wasted precious seconds of his mana wings.
Fortunately, the Selachimorpha didn't make him wait for too long before leaping out of the water again in an attempt to swallow him whole.
Facing the wide-open maws with a resolute expression, Shye flapped his wings, but only enough for him to bypass the shark's gaping jaws.
Landing atop the shark, Shye struck back.
'Power Slash!'
Slashing his greatswords downwards, Adamance and Mithra successfully pierced through the Selachimorpha's tough scales, cutting deep into its flesh.
*SPLASH!*
The water violently splashed as the enormous armored shark plunged back into the water—blood spurting out of the deep flesh wound Shye inflicted.
Still, deep as the wound was for a human, it was nothing to the Selachimorpha. Although Shye's ferocious counteroffensive indeed hurt it, the damage it suffered was nothing close to the word lethal.
To make things worse, Shye was now being caressed once more by the unnerving waters of the pitch-black sea.
He already prepared himself for such a situation though, fully knowing that he would simply die like a sitting duck if he fought too conservatively.
He had to take his chances.
With the help of the mana pulses, Shye was able to locate the rock tip, allowing him to swim towards it swiftly.

He was quite lucky that he ended up rather close to the huge rock, otherwise, he would have been in another sticky situation.
Hurriedly climbing up, Shye's hair stood on end as he felt the spine-chilling sensation of danger behind him.
Faster than he expected, the shark…was already on the attack again.
'Sh*t!! This bastard just had to change its attack patterns now!' Shye inwardly cursed.
Stuck in the middle of climbing the rock tip, Shye halted midway, turning his attention towards the approaching Selachimorpha.
Then, after waiting for the perfect moment, he blinked upwards, once again landing atop the shark.
This time, he managed to land three solid hits before plunging back to the water with the Selachimorpha.
Unfortunately, this time, he was quite far from the rounded rock tip, and he knew that he wasn't going to make it before the armored shark attacked him again.
Hence, Shye swam towards the rock for as long as the turnaround time of the Selachimorpha allowed him before turning around at the last moment to defend himself against the shark.
Waiting for a few more moments as the shark approached, a primordial roar resembling those of dragons echoed across the silent sea, bringing fear into the heart of the enormous armored shark for a short period.
Unfortunately, the higher the rank of the creature was, the less effective Shye's skill, [Draconian Roar Lv.3], was.
Hence, the shark was confused for only two seconds.
However, that was enough for Shye to deal irreversible damage to his adversary—one that would actually make the Selachimorpha suffer.
'Rush Stab!'
With a vicious glint in his eyes, Shye targeted the armored shark's left eye, causing it to thrash uncontrollably in pain as scarlet blood gushed out of its destroyed eye in alarming volumes.
Unfortunately, such a bold attack was sure to have repercussions.
As Shye hastily retreated to his rocky haven, an enormous tail suddenly struck him from the side, launching him about a hundred meters out of the water before he plunged back in.
'U-Ughh…f*ck…that hurt…'
Cursing underwater, Shye realized that a few of his bones were broken. Moreover, he was now way too far from the rounded rock tip.
There was no choice but to fight underwater…
Retrieving the Lazarus Capsule from his inventory, Shye quickly consumed it. Promptly after, the capsule's amazing effects activated, allowing Shye to breathe underwater.
Still, although his situation improved slightly, breathing underwater didn't change the fact that he wouldn't be as nimble as an aquatic creature underwater.
He would surely still fight at a huge disadvantage.
Well, at least he had a plan, even though the plan was way too risky.
However, what else could he do?
Gearing up for one final showdown, Shye decided to bet everything on his plan.
'Let's finish this…you damned shark. I won't let you take my life that easily!'
As if on cue, the silhouette of the enormous shark, resembling a gigantic underwater ship, slowly came into view.
Its wide-open maw revealed countless rows and columns of sharp teeth extending all the way to the back of its throat.
Witnessing the horrifying sight right in front of him, Shye forced himself to calm down, and then with sheer will and determination to live, he started the execution of his grand plan.
