Chapter 382: Shye Crowley Versus John Oni (1)
"...The ace representative of this year's adventurer academy competition, the official top-ranked rookie in terms of guild contribution points, and one of the four chantless mages in the entire history of Valenzia Region. Let's give it up for Shye Crowley!!"
Hearing Shye's impressive introduction, the crowd couldn't help but gulp.
Indeed…How did they forget?
They all see him as a mere first-year rookie who was lucky enough to be born with an [Epic]-tier talent, allowing him to stand at the same level as the top four of the second-years through what they perceived to be sheer luck.
Most of them forgot that he was also the ace representative of this year's Adventurer Academy Competition.
Realizing their oversight, some of them courageously went over to the Shye Crowley crowd, even under a few light jeers from their "ex-comrades".
"Oh, hello there! Welcome, welcome! It's fantastic to see you've recognized the greatness of my boss. Your discerning judgment is truly appreciated, and I can assure you that joining his fan club for this tournament will be a decision you won't regret!" Seira enthusiastically said, fully assuming the role of a crowd's cheer captain.
Witnessing the sudden growth of the Shye Crowley crowd, the Banar brothers snorted in discontent.
'Impressive as this Shye Crowley's resume was, there is simply no way for him to defeat John Oni! You'll all regret your decisions to support this fraud!'
…A few moments after Corey's introduction, the young man with the impressive introduction finally arrived at the stage, sauntering up the stairs with the same confident expression.
Naturally, upon seeing the annoying look on Shye's face, John, who was already dissatisfied by the fact that he was introduced first, inwardly fumed.
Even though he was a scout, John Oni was not someone who could hide his emotions very effectively.
Hence, upon noticing that there was a subtle scowl on his opponent's face, Shye immediately knew that John wasn't currently in a pleasant mood.
Although Shye didn't understand what was going through the scout's mind, he was all too happy to know that somehow, he was managing to piss John off without even trying.
Who knows? Maybe this slight mood advantage would give him a pleasant surprise.
…Pulling his dagger out, John smirked.
"Shye Crowley…I do acknowledge your capabilities as a mage. However, don't you think seeding you higher than me is a bit too much of a stretch? After all, how could you, a mage, defeat a highly skilled scout like me?"
Hearing John's words, Shye simply chuckled.
"Heh, John Barney, I know you're a scout, no need to tell me as you would simply appear desperate to introduce yourself. However, a highly skilled one? Hahahahaha! "Sinister Shadow" my ass, what a cringe-ass nickname. Aren't you ashamed? Nothing about you looks sinister.
You're somewhat delusional though so maybe a more fitting nickname would be "Delusional shithead who is about to be eliminated". A bit long but it's a good one, no?"
Hearing Shye's words, the crowd couldn't help but laugh.
Heck, even a few of those who were supporting John Oni chuckled in amusement as they thought about a certain vicious-mouthed midget.
A case of "like boss, like underling", that's for sure.
Naturally, such vicious words ruthlessly ripped apart the last vestiges of patience remaining in John Oni's heart, prompting him to gnash his teeth and clench his fists in anger.
'This bastard…I'll sew that mouth of yours shut…''
Ultimately, he chose to temporarily give the verbal war victory to Shye as he didn't want to infuriate himself any further than this or he might make bad decisions in the middle of their fight.
In any case, he truly believed that the darned mage was no match for him, hence, he decided to just ruthlessly mock Shye after thoroughly destroying and dismantling him in their match.
Realizing that John decided to focus on the fight instead of squabbling with him, Shye threw in one last insult before drawing both of his elemental staffs and taking position.
The scout was filled with anticipation for the match to commence as he wanted to make Shye suffer until he pleaded for forgiveness.
Fortunately, the referee didn't make him wait for a long time.
"Begin!"
Upon hearing the words he wanted to hear the most, John immediately dashed towards Shye in a zigzag motion, masterfully dodging all the projectiles thrown at him with a cold smile.
The projectiles were almost all too easy for him to dodge.
Although the sizes of Shye's spells were absurdly huge, nothing hit their mark, and John was closing in—fast.
Witnessing the current developments, the John Oni supporters burst into thunderous cheers.
This!...was precisely what they expected to happen, and the swift scout didn't disappoint.
Now, with excited smiles on their faces, they yearned for nothing more than the downfall of the unfairly talented mage.
They envied the talent he was "born" with. If only they knew…
After two more seconds of dashing left, right, and forward, John finally arrived in front of Shye.
"I told you, there's simply nothing you can do against me. Now, suffer!"
Dodging one last projectile, the scout-class rookie flashed an evil smile as he slashed his dagger toward Shye's extended right hand, aiming to cut it just enough for Shye to let go of his weapons.
John…was dead set on humiliating the bastard today.
Realizing what his opponent was going for, Shye frowned. He then swiftly pulled his right hand back to dodge the blow while brandishing the other elemental staff toward John's unguarded head.
The scout was equally as deft though so Shye's left bonk attack was blocked easily by John.
Only, he didn't expect that a mage, someone who should be using elemental spells to fight, would raise his leg and ferociously thrust it forward.
"PUHAAAHK!"
Spartan-kicked in his abdomen, John violently hurtled backward, rolling on the ground for a few moments before finally recovering his footing—a thin stream of blood trickling down the corners of his mouth.
"Hahaha! Your melee combat skills don't seem much to me. I mean, getting kicked the f*ck away by a mage? Pfft! Embarrassing!"
