Chapter 378: Shye’s Huge Blunder
Chapter 378: Shye’s Huge Blunder
"Hahahaha! My wraiths have excellent resistance against spells, it's over for you, Shye Crowley! Die and become a stepping stone for me!" Brooke exclaimed crazily, thinking that she already won.
Although utterly excited at the prospect of potentially upsetting Shye, Brooke was rather meticulous, swiftly casting yet another one of her dark elemental spells, [(Dark) Shadow Blast Lv.4 (Uncommon)], to ensure her perceived victory.
'...Shadow Blast!'
Chanting for around three seconds, a pitch-black ball materialized in front of Brooke's elemental staff.
The ball made of shadows was eerie, it was silent, and it didn't have an aura. One wouldn't even feel the slightest hint of danger emanating from it.
However, the experienced adventurers knew all too well that it was exactly these types of spells that were the most lethal, especially out in the real world.
As the shadowy ball silently shot towards Shye, a loud sound resembling those of destroyed bones echoed across the arena, redirecting everyone's focus from the silent black orb to the source of the noise.
Witnessing probably the most absurd scene in their lives, everyone's eyes, including Brooke's widened.
Shye…was ripping apart the wraiths and the spectral movement restriction with his bare hands…
'How…how is he so strong at such a young age? Based on our clashes, his intelligence attribute was way higher than mine. And now, you're telling me his strength attribute is also higher than 80 points?' Brooke inwardly mumbled in utter resignation. She was so done dealing with this…invincible bastard.
'Sigh…maybe the midget was right…maybe this guy is indeed invincible…'
Naturally, since there were no more distractions for Shye to deal with, he noticed the shadowy ball sneakily approaching him.
Although he didn't feel anything from it, he was sure that the attack came from Brooke, hence, to ensure safety, Shye destroyed it with an enormous fireball.
The shadowy ball's strength lay not in its raw destructive power but in its sneakiness.
Thus, when the moment Shye noticed it, the spell already failed.
"I must say, I'm impressed at your capabilities. However, it would take more than that to–"
"I surrender."
Shye was in the middle of making himself look cool when suddenly, words he didn't expect came straight out of Brooke's mouth without hesitation.
"W-Wait, you what?"
"I said, I surrender. There's no point in continuing."
"W-what? Don't you have some…uhh…genius' pride or something?"
"Hahahaha, what are you talking about, maybe others do but me? Not really. Congratulations, Shye Crowley. I hope you win so that my defeat will look lighter in everyone's eyes."
For the first time in his career as a professional adventurer, Shye found himself at a loss for words, unable to think of a response on the spot.
He wanted to say: "No! You can't surrender! I need to earn more points from you!", but he would appear foolish if he did so, hence, with a disappointed, almost despairing heart, Shye allowed Brooke to descend the stage.
"C-C-COMPETITOR BROOKE HAYES HAS SURRENDERED!! I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT JUST HAPPENED!! ONE MOMENT, SHE WAS ON THE VERGE OF WINNING, ONLY TO SURRENDER THE NEXT!! SHYE CROWLEY SOMEHOW ADVANCES TO THE SEMI-FINALS!!"
Hearing Corey's voice which contained a hint of a disappointed undertone, the people were inclined to believe the same.
This was a huge blunder on Corey's part as it would make him appear biased, which, as a commentator and host, he should never do.
As a result, the crowd jeered at Shye, thinking that there was something fishy going on behind the scenes.
Naturally, the loyal midget was infuriated. She tried her best to defend her boss, but unfortunately, her voice was drowned out by the crowd's scorn.
'Hmmph! Jeer all you want, I won fair and square!' Shye inwardly thought, descending the stage with a nonchalant expression.
However, his heart was filled with resentment.
If only Brooke didn't surrender, none of this would've happened.
'I would probably earn some points as well! What a hateful woman….'
Just when Shye's anger towards Brooke was reaching its peak, the young woman's voice sounded, as soothing as a heavenly tune.
"Everyone, please don't doubt Shye Crowley's win as he truly deserved it. I threw everything I had at him, however, it wasn't even enough to heavily wound him. I have nothing else in my arsenal of skills and it was impossible for me to continue.
Even if we did, I surely would've lost so I ask for everyone's understanding regarding this matter of my surrender." Brooke said, offering a profound bow towards the crowd to show her sincerity.
She then continued walking towards the preparation room assigned to her and her guild.
'Damn, this lass knows how to have a graceful exit! Commendable, I guess…' Shye inwardly thought, the fury inside his heart dissipating completely.
Hearing Brooke's sincere words, the crowd settled down, rather ashamed of their actions.
Indeed, if Shye Crowley won fair and square, then their jeers were truly unfair. On the other hand, a certain someone's protests were finally heard.
"I TOLD YOU!! I F*CKING TOLD ALL OF YOU DIDN'T I?! MY BOSS WILL NEVER CHEAT!! HE'S INVINCIBLE SO THERE'S NO NEED FOR HIM TO CHEAT!! YOU BUNCH OF SORE LOSERS!! HATEFUL BASTARDS!!
YOU'RE ALL UGLY!! HAAAAAAH…HAAAAAH…."
Screaming her heart out for an entire minute in hopes of defending her boss, the midget finally felt the satisfaction of being heard.
Still, she was a bit unsatisfied. Why? Because no one dared argue with her!
Inwardly cursing as she was already out of breath, Seira vowed to verbally destroy all of them once her boss defeats John Baloney and Arthur Vermicelli.
Meanwhile, the boss in question was already on the way back to their guild's assigned preparation room with a slightly dissatisfied heart.
He wanted to earn a lot of points and he already had a plan on how to end the battle that would allow him to do so.
Unfortunately, he didn't expect that Brooke would surrender.
'Oh well…I suppose I'll just have to make up for my losses by earning more points in my next match.'
