Chapter 356: Shye Crowley In Trouble?
Chapter 356: Shye Crowley In Trouble?
"Die, my ass! Why the fuck are you whispering?! Can you stop posing? Everyone already knows your true colors, stop pretending to be someone you're not, idiot!" Shye deliberately exclaimed loudly, bringing yet another wave of discomfort and humiliation in Percy's heart.
The poser wanted to scream "stop" or "shut up!" However, his stupid, delusional mask prevented him from doing so.
Percy was simply locked in.
Still, there was a limit to how much psychological abuse a man could take, hence, although the poser tried his hardest not to show any emotions, remaining the "calm, cool, and approachable" rookie that he was in his head, a hint of anger was clearly written on his face.
Even the onlookers noticed. Stay connected with ???
Utterly fuming inside, Percy used the last and most reliable gap-closer skill he had: [Target Locked Lv.3(Rare)].
Basically, the skill's effects were great for hunting down mages and archers as the farther one's target was, the bigger the agility boost one would obtain from the skill.
For example, if the target was around 501 meters to 1 kilometer away from the skill's user, the user would obtain a 100% agility boost.
Then, as the distance shrunk, the boost would get smaller and smaller until it caps out at around 15% agility boost.
Still, fighting a tachi-user at point-blank range with a 15% agility boost as a mage was nothing short of a death sentence.
This was also the reason why Percy was so confident against Shye.
In fact, he saw Mateo as more of a threat than Shye, who he believed he countered hard in terms of skills.
Witnessing Percy's absurd charging speed as he zigzagged, Shye narrowed his eyes.
He had no more repositioning skills, and if he allowed this guy to get in range…
'Well, if it comes down to it then why not?'
Aiming both staffs at Percy, Shye used his ultimate Gatling projectile combo.
'Fire Bomb Assault!' 'Frozen Thorn Barrage!'
Frosty winds and embers gathered around Shye's elemental staffs, materializing into sharp glacial shards and fiery, exploding balls of flame, shooting continuously at Percy with vicious intent.
There was a huge disparity between the strength of the spells though.
The flaming bombs were akin to huge fireballs, appearing extremely devastating as one after the other materialized in front of the high-grade ruby-tier elemental staff relic.
On the other hand, the frozen thorns, albeit larger than usual due to the 15% ice element bonus of one of his gold-tier elemental staff, were way weaker compared to the blazing spheres.
Still, it was nothing to scoff at, leaving Percy confused about whether he should execute phase number two of his plan, which was to tank a few projectiles to close the gap and finally have the chance to finish Shye Crowley off.
In the end, Percy decided to temporarily back off—the most sober decision he had ever made.
Shye's barrage would only last for around six to seven seconds while his skill, [Target Locked] would be active for an entire minute.
There was no need to rush.
Sounds of horrifying fiery explosions and shattering ice violently reverberated across the four corners of Balkrow Arena, leaving the crowd dumbstruck—their mouths, agape.
Most monstrous creatures weren't good at dodging, however, their bodies were tough.
Even so, imagining this devastating barrage of projectiles landing on the body of a huge, easily hit monstrous creature cleared the doubts in everyone's minds regarding how Shye Crowley, the top-ranked rookie in Balkrow, was able to earn guild contribution points and rank up so easily.
The Emeralds, who had a good idea of how strong (B-) and (B) ranked monstrous creatures were, knew that only the toughest of (B) ranked creatures would survive such an attack.
Meanwhile, unless the (B-) ranked ones could dodge, there was no way for them to survive this ferocious onslaught of spells.
Realizing that Shye could solo most high-ranked quests, everyone suddenly felt that he deserved the top 1 rookie spot in Balkrow.
Well, in terms of guild contribution points, at least.
What can they say? The man was the bane of monstrous creatures.
Duels, however, were a different story.
Mighty as Shye might be against creatures that mostly act on instinct and rarely on intelligence, and were very easy to hit, fighting against fellow humans wasn't the same.
Humans…mostly try to defeat their opponents without getting hit.
Although it was inevitable to suffer a few hits here and there, humans mostly avoided everything they could due to their naturally weaker physique, unlike monstrous creatures.
Just like the current unfolding events, menacing as Shye's barrage might be, it was useless if it didn't hit its target.
Percy wasn't able to escape unscathed, suffering a few burns and frosty punctures here and there as he desperately dodged.
However, such minor damages weren't enough to stop the well-rounded poser.
'Tch'
Realizing that he failed to finish Percy off, Shye clicked his tongue—annoyed.
All he had now was his gravitational drain. He doubted that its sucking power would be enough to keep the ridiculously nimble poser within its range.
Still, Shye had to try.
Meanwhile, Shye's shadow suddenly detached from his body and crept towards the edge of the stage.
This was one of his new skills: [Shadow Swap Lv.1(Uncommon)]
'Gravitational Drain!'
Just when Percy was resuming his mad chase, a terrifying blackhole howled menacingly as it appeared in the space between him and Shye, sucking him straight towards its center.
'W-What the hell is this skill?!'
Feeling his energy and his consciousness leaving him, alarm bells rang in Percy's head.
Luckily, most of his basic gap-closer skills were already off cooldown.
Hence, after desperately running half the distance, Percy used Dash to finally get out of the gravitational drain's range.
"Haaah…Haaah…That was way too close…" The poser muttered under his breath.
Soon after, he began chasing Shye down again.
This time, it was easier, Shye swiftly burned through all of his repositioning skills which had just come off cooldown.
However, he still couldn't shake Percy off, who only used his skill, [Target Locked], to chase him down.
And by the time the skill timed out, Shye was already out of repositioning skills.
On the other hand, Percy still had three, and…he was already standing in front of Shye.
"AFTER BRAVING A FIERCE ONSLAUGHT OF SPELLS, THE ENIGMATIC PERCY PHONE, FINALLY CORNERS SHYE CROWLEY!! WILL THE TOP-RANKED ROOKIE OF BALKROW JUSTIFY WHY HE IS NUMBER 1?! OR WAS HIS TIME AT THE TOP TICKING AWAY?!" Corey's vibrant voice echoed once more, bringing excitement to the hearts of the crowd and causing them to stand up and cheer loudly for the underdog, Percy Phone.
Meanwhile, the expression on Shye's face didn't change.
'Poser, poser, poser, you think I'm scared of fighting you at this range? Hilarious!'
