Chapter 348: Prowess Of The First Years

Chapter 348: Prowess Of The First Years

"Boss Chiizai!! You can do it!!"

"Boss Chiizai!"

"Boss!! I believe in you!!"

The subordinates of Chiizai Otoko, who ranked fourth in this year's rookie admission exam, shouted with all their might.

Even though Chiizai's temper was as short as his height, in their hearts, he was a kind and understanding boss, always taking care of them and making sure they advanced as safely as possible as adventurers.

Also, since they were very close with each other unlike other boss-subordinate relationships, they were aware that Chiizai had a significant plan in mind, and they didn't want to see it crumble before their boss even had the opportunity to set it in motion.

Well, what could they do except cheer their hearts out?

Meanwhile, in the middle of the ring, the boss in question was locked in a fierce battle against a second-year warrior rookie.

Hence, although Chiizai was disadvantaged as a mage, it was only rather mild compared to fighting a scout.

Still, the duel was close.

Way too close.

Chiizai had several slash and stab wounds on his body, while his opponent bore burns and frosty punctures—both had blood streaming down the corners of their mouths, evidently barely hanging on.

Hearing the cheers from his subordinates, a surge of energy and determination coursed through Chiizai's body.

'That's right! Wasn't I doing this for the sake of saving my beloved from the clutches of that evil Shye Crowley?!' Chiizai thought inwardly, a gleam of courage burning fiercely in his eyes. 'I can't falter here!'

"Die, first year!!" Murphy, Chiizai's opponent, fiercely exclaimed as he bolted forward and slashed his gladius downward with vicious intent.

"Hmmph! Naive! What are you fighting for? If you can't answer my question, then you will never be able to defeat me. For I, Chiizai, have a deep reason to not lose! Someone to fight for!

HYAAAAAAAHH!!"

Gracefully dodging Murphy's katana by blinking a few meters away, Chiizai immediately started casting a skill no one expected him to have.

'This is one of my aces against Shye Crowley but…I have to reveal it now!'

'Hentacles!'

After two seconds of chanting, thick mana tentacles resembling those of a creature called Krakken emerged from the ground beneath Murphy, coiling around Murphy's legs, arms, and neck, preventing him from moving an inch.

Chiizai then followed up with one of his stronger offensive skills, holding his staff up and aiming at Murphy while he chanted gibberish for around four seconds.

Four seconds was a long time in one-on-one combat and Murphy would definitely interrupt Chiizai's casting if he could.

However, the hentacles were just too tough, and although they dealt no damage, he simply couldn't move.

Hence, after four seconds, a magic circle appeared beneath Murphy's feet, releasing a roaring tornado of scarlet embers that annihilated him.

In just two seconds, Murphy's perfectly roasted body turned into an azure ray of light that shot straight out of the blue dome.

"UOOOOHHHH!! THE BOSS IS MIGHTY!"

"BOSS CHIIZAI IS MIGHTY!!"

Hearing the glorious cheers of the crowd, especially those of his underlings, Chiizai felt heroic.

A bit overwhelmed by the moment, he clenched his fist in victory, raising his arms high before turning to Seira with a smile that was both triumphant and tender.

Chills crawled down Seira's spine upon witnessing Chiizai's actions, causing a creeped-out and confused expression to emerge on her face.

'W-Why the hell is this dude looking at me like that?!'

Horrified, Seira looked away.

Unfortunately for her, Chiizai's levels of delusion were outlandish.

He truly thought that Seira was blushing and that's why she looked away.

Satisfied with eliciting a reaction he believed to be positive from Seira, Chiizai descended the stage with a wide smile.

After Chiizai and Megan's exciting matches, the next few ones were rather…boring.

Well, the audience understood that not all matches were exciting, hence, they remained seated, thinking that the latter matches were bound to be way more exciting once the weaker rookies were out of the tournament.

Of course, the match everyone was looking forward to was between Shye and Mateo.

However, it wasn't scheduled to take place any time soon as the guild's event organizers had planned for it to be the final showdown.

Finally, after three more matches, it was time for yet another rookie in Shye's generation to take the stage.

The strongest out of all the applicants in this year's rookie admission exam: Percy Phone

Unlike Chiizai and Megan who were rather…intense, Percy looked very calm, appearing as though nothing in this world could shake his stoic heart.

Based on Shye's personal experience, such individuals were likable.

Only, he didn't expect his intuition to fail him this time.

Walking up to the stage, Percy drew his tachi.

As soon as the tip of the blade was released from the sheath, a shocking red lightning cobra coiled around the body of the blade, eliciting loud gasps from the audience.

High-grade relic!

It was common knowledge that the color of the element represents the rank of the enchantment.

For lightning: low grade was blue, mid grade was purple, high grade was red, and peak grade was black.

Hence, the red lightning cobra immediately gave away the enchantment rank of Percy's blade.

'Ohoh…Yet another rookie born with a silver spoon…' Shye mused as he observed Percy with intrigue.

Soon after Percy's opponent drew his dagger, the referee announced the start of the match.

Winds violently parted as Apollo, Percy's prideful opponent who was also second-only to Mateo in terms of guild-contribution points and strength, confidently bolted forward.

Even though Percy was a warrior, it seemed that there wasn't the slightest hint of fear in his eyes as he opted for a head-on confrontation.

Still, it didn't mean that he was willing to fight Percy in a strength contest as he planned to nimbly evade and skillfully parry each of Percy's attacks, sneaking in a few counterattacks in the process.

However, just a few moments later, everyone's eyes almost popped out of their sockets, including Mateo, who was well aware of his rival's capabilities.

*SPURT!*

Simulated scarlet blood splattered on the ground as Apollo suddenly halted in front of Percy, appearing as though he was throwing the match.

Yet, the shocked and defiant expression on his face told everyone a different story.

His abrupt stop resulted in him being cleanly sliced into two by Percy whose stoic face suddenly turned into a mocking smile for a brief second.

Though subtle, the split-second change in Percy's countenance was noticed by Shye.

Subsequently, after Apollo turned into an azure ray of light, the top-ranked rookie in Shye's generation suddenly turned to look at him with an arrogant smirk before looking away and descending the stage.

'Heh, what a pretentious bastard. Oh well, it appears that everyone is after my head today. Probably the consequence of being too high-key.'
