Chapter 324: Scuffling With Emeralds

Chapter 324: Scuffling With Emeralds

Since Megan decided to end their conversation, Shye was all too happy to comply.

Turning his attention back to Seira, Shye replied:

"Yeah, we're going on a quest."

"N-N-Nevermind that, b–boss! You're the ace representative of this year's champion academy?! Why didn't you tell me that you're such a big shot?!"

"What do you mean by big shot? Aren't I a mere platinum-ranked adventurer right now?"

"S-Still! Not everyone can become the ace representative of a champion academy, you know?!"

"Yeah, yeah, I already know I'm amazing. Come, I need to ask Miss Aya something."

She wanted to sing her boss' praises more, but regrettably, Shye just wasn't interested.

Hence, she could only follow along while suppressing the urge to blabber on.

"Hello, Miss Aya."

"H-Hello, Sir Crowley. Welcome back."

"Thank you. I have a question. I've gained access to the special lounge on the second floor recently, while Seira hasn't. Can I return the quest scroll to you and request that you register quests under both our names?"

"Ah…yes. That's feasible, however…"

"What?"

"The emerald-ranked adventurers might give you trouble if you proceed with that, as they are not fond of ruby-ranked adventurers and below reducing their quest options..."

"Ahh…You don't have to worry about that. So basically, as long as I can bring the quest scroll back to you, Seira can join me, correct?"

"Yes, Sir Crowley, that's correct."

"I see, thank you, Miss Aya. I'll be back."

Knowing what he needed to do next, Shye instructed the worried Seira to wait for him in the first floor's lobby.

"H-Hey! Look! Where is he going?!"

"There's just no way he already obtained access to the special lounge!"

"At this point, everything just makes sense. He's the ace representative of this year's champion academy. His actions are not something mere commoners like us could fathom."

Amidst over five hundred astonished gazes, Shye ascended towards the second floor, once again etching his name in Balkrow Guild Branch's history as the first platinum-ranked member to be granted access to the special lounge.

However, shortly after, the onlookers recalled something and couldn't contain their excitement.

Many of them stood up and gathered near the staircases, eager to eavesdrop.

The emeralds were aloof individuals as they were the ones up for promotion to a different, higher-ranked branch, and most of them didn't like lower-ranked adventurers entering the special lounge regardless of whether they had access or not.

On the other hand, the notorious rookie, who turned out to be such a super rookie, was someone who never backed down from a confrontation.

This could only mean one thing: another clash was imminent.

Upon arriving in front of the lounge's open entrance, heads inevitably turned Shye's way.

Most had cold looks on their faces; others were confused, while a few were apathetic.

As usual, Shye didn't give a single flying f*ck about what the emeralds thought of him, Nonchalantly entering and proceeding straight towards the special lounge's quest board.

He then crossed his arms over his chest as he started to carefully read each quest on the board.

Such unrestrained actions naturally earned him the ire of a few bad-tempered emeralds, who then looked at each other before deciding on who would show this ill-informed rookie "the ropes".

The man who volunteered to teach Shye a lesson was a recently promoted emerald-ranked scout.

Given that he, Darius Gaynard, was commonly regarded as the weakest among the emeralds, he would be the most suitable candidate for the task.

Standing up from his seat with a cold smile, Darius approached the ashen-haired rookie, whom everyone has been talking about in recent months, with a not-so-kind intention.

"Hey, Shye Crowley, correct?"

Hearing someone call his name, Shye subconsciously turned around to look at the individual.

"Yes, I'm indeed Shye Crowley."

"I know that you think you're a hotshot and all, but seriously, are you truly that much of an idiot? Don't you realize there's an unwritten rule prohibiting adventurers ranked lower than Emerald from entering the special lounge?!"

"Huh? And why the hell would I care if there's an unwritten rule? Write the damn rule first if you want me to comply. Idiot."

Hearing Shye's vicious retort—obviously lacking respect for a senior—Darius gnashed his teeth and clenched his fists in utter fury.

"I can see you're just as arrogant as the rumors suggest... If not for my patience and goodwill as a senior adventurer, you'd be lying unconscious on the first floor by now." Darius Gaynard began, staring daggers at Shye as he continued: "I'll count to three. If you still don't leave, I'll beat the sh*t out of you."

Unfortunately, such threats would never instill fear in Shye's heart, especially when it came from a shitty and weak emerald-ranked scout like Darius.

Shye already appraised the guy and Darius had nothing else to offer except for his agility and dexterity attributes, which were only a few points higher than Shye's and were totally bridgeable by his [Fallen] skills.

The senior scout's trump card was a level three [Rare] ability named "Four Clone Assault," which essentially served as a less effective variation of his friend Ian Izanagi's trump card.

Darius was simply the weakest emerald-ranked adventurer he had ever seen.

Even Vera, the priestess who watched his duel with the sixth-ranked Farhann, had better stats than Darius.

"Oh? Come then. However, make sure that you would beat the sh*t out of me, otherwise, I'll beat the shit out of you in front of everyone present." Shye retorted with a cold smile, not the least bit intimidated by Darius' threat.

Naturally, the senior scout had heard enough.

If this notoriously arrogant rookie wouldn't respect him, then he shall make the bastard do so.

Drawing his dagger out from its sheath, the wooden floor creaked as Darius momentarily disappeared, reappearing behind Shye soon after.

He was aware that this was the textbook opening of a scout, however, the emerald scout didn't care as he didn't believe that Shye would be able to react.

Unfortunately for him, Shye was so damn used to this opening that he was even able to predict when and exactly where Darius would reappear.

Summoning his new high-grade, ruby-tier elemental staff, Shye grasped it with both arms and slashed diagonally as though the staff was a greatsword.

'Power Slash.'

*FWOOSH!*

Promptly after Darius reappeared, Shye's elemental staff was already near the senior scout's face and if not for Darius' fast reflexes, he would've been whacked in the face rather heavily.

Swiftly jerking his arm upwards, Darius angled the blade of his dagger to block the strike.

However, what he didn't expect was how powerful the blow was.

A sickening crack reverberated through the special lounge as Darius' right arm contorted unnaturally, his right shoulder dislocating as he violently hurtled through the air, crashing back into his vacant seat under the alarmed stares of the emeralds.

"A-AAARGHHH!! H-HELP ME!! MY ARM!!" Darius screamed in agony, prompting Shye to smile coldly and another emerald-ranked warrior to stand up and charge toward Shye.

As the warrior's tachi entered a slashing motion, a red aura suddenly enveloped the sword, generating gusts of wind as it ruthlessly aimed to slice Shye's right arm off.

Naturally, Shye immediately sensed the danger and was about to switch to his greatswords.

However, before the emerald-ranked warrior could even reach the optimal striking distance, a middle-aged man abruptly materialized between them.

He kicked the warrior's tachi away, sending it flying briefly before skidding to a stop on the ground a few meters away from Vera.

"Enough!"
