Chapter 301 : Extending A Helping Hand To The Poor Underling

Chapter 301 : Extending A Helping Hand To The Poor Underling

'Phew…I can't believe we lived through all of that…' Shye mused as he hurled an entire makeshift tent towards the raging flames.

He then glanced at Seira, who lifted yet another tent made of sticks, palm leaves, and vines, tossing it into the fire soon after.

Shye must admit, he was impressed at Seira's performance.

As soon as he saw more than a hundred goblins surrounding them, his heart was promptly assaulted by pangs of loneliness, thinking that Seira probably wouldn't live through the day.

After all, he could escape if things went out of hand while Seira…would have no business fleeing from the Goblin Chieftain who was superior to her in every aspect.

Shockingly though, when the grim reaper came knocking at her door, she vehemently refused to go, fighting ferociously—like a cornered beast—to keep her little life.

Consequently, her hidden potential seemed to have been unlocked through that battle.

Shye was genuinely astonished by Seira's extraordinary focus during the most challenging moments.

Who knew that this little worrywart would turn out to be someone who thrives on pressure?

While recording their clean-up of the goblin village, a sudden idea entered Shye's mind.

'Hmm…I dislike using appraisal on my friends but…just this once should be okay. Yes…this is just…for research purposes!' Shye inwardly convinced himself. 'Appraisal!'

'Oh? Her attributes are not bad, she's definitely someone who trains hard. However, her skill pool is a bit too limited…'

Seeing Seira's status, Shye couldn't help but feel bad for her.

She was a talented one—probably on the level of his friends from Colzen.

Regrettably, she appeared to be someone who hadn't been born near an academy city and had no one but herself to depend on.

It was inevitable for someone like Seira, who was born under such unfortunate circumstances, to not achieve much, considering all the difficulties she went through.

If she lacked such a fierce determination to break free from her mediocre fate, she would likely be stuck in a mundane job by now.

Shye felt the urge to help her.

Granting her a few skills in exchange for system points wouldn't be a problem, especially since he had recently amassed a substantial amount of points by completing the regular system quests, earning a whopping 19,000 points after annihilating the entire population of the goblin village.

Still, he pondered whether to give Seira a rare skill.

After all, the cost of such skills wasn't small, ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 system points for a level one skill.

He didn't close the possibility of it happening though.

It's just that Seira's "contributions" weren't sufficient to earn herself a rare skill from Shye.

In the future, if Shye thinks she deserves a rare skill, then he will buy her one from the system.

She would have to level it up herself though.

For now, three level 1 common skills and one uncommon skill should suffice.

[Congratulations! You've purchased a skill book: [Swallow Step Lv.1] for 500 points!]

[Congratulations! You've purchased a skill book: [Destructive Chop Lv.1] for 500 points!]

[Congratulations! You've purchased a skill book: [Rush Stab Lv.1] for 500 points!]

[Congratulations! You've purchased a skill book: [Air Shift Lv.1 (Uncommon)] for 3,500 points!]

'These should be a decent addition to her limited skill pool' Shye mused as he glanced at Seira, who just tossed the final goblin tent into the fire.

"Boss! I'm done. Shall we go back?"

Three days quickly passed since the entire goblin village was eradicated and today…was a fine day for the duo.

The quest's deadline was twenty-one days and for them to finish it in less than seven was naturally a cause for celebration.

If they stuck to their initial plan of conducting a patient study of the entire village for seven days before taking action, it would likely take them around 15 days to complete the quest.

And even that can be considered quick.

Hence, their current completion time of four and a half days was truly astonishing.

The entire matter would probably stir yet another commotion in the guild.

Well, they traded completion time for massive risk, and as luck would have it, they emerged victorious, thus, they get to live

Recalling the skill books in his inventory, Shye glanced at Seira, who was humming a jolly tune.

"Hey, Seira. Come, I'll give you something."

"Hmm? What is it, boss?"

"Here."

Shye handed all four skill books over to Seira, whose confused expression suddenly turned into utter glee.

"Y-You're giving all of this to me for free, boss?!"

"No, you owe me 100,000 silver coins for those."

"W-W-What? Then I refuse! I don't have 100,000 silver coins…"

"Hahahaha! I'm just joking, stupid."

"Oh…then that means…"

"Yeah, all yours! You've done well this time and I, as the boss, thought I should be generous and reward you."

"Holy crap!! Thanks, boss!"

Arriving in front of Balkrow City's gates, Seira practically hopped and skipped like a child as she entered, making Shye chuckle in amusement.

His jolly mood didn't last for long though.

Recalling their experiences in the goblin village mission once again ignited the fury in his heart.

He wasn't angry anymore about the difficulty since they survived and succeeded, however, what infuriated him was the unjust rewards for such a high-difficulty quest.

Walking for around twenty minutes, the two of them finally arrived in front of their guild's branch headquarters.

"Well then, here's my adventurer license and guild token, boss. Do your thing. I'll be back after learning the skills you gave me."

"Sure, leave this to me."

Entering the branch headquarters with a rather mild scowl on his face, Shye proceeded towards the rewards desk.
