Descending the stairs, Mo Jingteng glanced back at the swollen face of Mo Zixuan, his thick eyebrows slightly furrowed, then spoke coldly, “Put some ice on your face first before going to the hospital.”
Having said that, he pointed to the sofa, indicating for Ah Sen to help Mo Zixuan sit down.
A touch of emotion flickered in Mo Zixuan’s eyes, and he tightly pursed his lips to grab some ice to soothe his face.
During this whole process, Mo Jingteng didn’t say another word, nor did he eat breakfast. He just sat on the sofa, looking closely at Mo Zixuan, unsure whether he was trying to fathom if he was indeed his son, or brooding over other matters.
Since Mo Jingteng was silent, Mo Zixuan didn’t dare to speak either. He just quietly applied ice to his face, not bothering to think about anything.
About ten minutes later, Mo Jingteng ended his scrutiny.
Getting up, Mo Zixuan discarded the ice pack and left the villa with Mo Jingteng. Ah Sen drove them to the hospital.
Since Gu Kai’s father, Gu Yan, hadn’t returned from abroad, Mo Jingteng decided to call Gu Kai.
When the phone rang, Gu Kai, Mo Xiuchen, and Wen Ran had just finished breakfast. Gu Kai pulled out his cell phone, squinted slightly at the display, and before answering the call, he said to Mo Xiuchen, “It’s your father calling.”
Mo Xiuchen merely grunted in response, without any other comment. Gu Kai didn’t add anything else, but instead answered the phone, his voice as gentle as ever, “Hello, Uncle Mo.”
“Ranran, let’s get in the car first.”
Mo Xiuchen, not looking at Gu Kai who was on the phone, smiled and said to Wen Ran.
Wen Ran nodded. She could roughly guess why Mo Jingteng was reaching out to Gu Kai – probably something to do with his demand that Mo Zixuan undergo paternity testing. She left the living room with Mo Xiuchen and allowed him to take her hand out of habit, heading towards the garage.
“Ranran, wait here for me. I’ll go start the car.”
As they were passing by a garden full of blooming flowers, Mo Xiuchen suddenly released Wen Ran’s hand. She was feeling low and he guessing that seeing the blooms and smelling the flowers might lift her spirits.
“Okay!”
Wen Ran didn’t refuse his kindness, a faint smile appeared on her face.
She bent down to smell the blooming blue enchantress in front of her. Actually, without bending down, the floral scent was already quite strong, enough to be perceived while standing. However, she felt that smelling the fragrance up close was more special. The waves of floral fragrance that permeated her senses truly improved her mood.
Gu Kai came out quickly, seeing Wen Ran bending down to look at a few flowers in front of her, the corners of his lips lifted and he slowed his pace to head over to her. Even though he was quiet, Wen Ran heard his footsteps and turned her head towards him.
“Ranran, Xiuchen is bringing the car over. Let’s go.”
Gu Kai’s handsome face always wore a smile, and when his eyes fell upon Wen Ran, his doting gaze was undisguised.
Last night Mo Xiuchen had hardly slept himself. With Little Liu as the driver, the three of them sat in the rear, heading towards Kangning Hospital, against the morning sun and at a steady pace.
All the way, it was quiet inside the car.
Wen Ran didn’t speak, just leaned quietly against the backrest of the seat, her eyes slightly closed and lips lightly pursed, lost in thought. Beside her, Mo Xiuchen’s large hand gently held her cool one, the warmth from his hand gradually made its way to her heart.
In one way or another, it alleviated the tension and unease in her heart.
Gu Kai silently looked out the window. Since Wen Ran wasn’t talking, he didn’t speak either, not wanting to disturb her contemplation.
When their business vehicle reached the hospital, they coincidentally saw Mo Jingteng and Mo Zixuan, who had just exited their car.
Upon seeing Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran coming to the hospital, a sharp gleam flashed in Mo Jingteng’s eyes. He stood still, waiting for them to approach.
“Uncle Mo, I have everything arranged. Let’s go in first!”
Mo Jingteng glanced at Gu Kai, then turned his gaze to the calm-looking Mo Xiuchen, speaking in a measured tone, “Xiuchen, good thing you’re here, why don’t you come in with us? If Wen Ran wants to come along too, she can.”
At his remarks, Mo Xiuchen’s handsome face instantly darkened, scorn tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Ranran and I aren’t here because of you. I couldn’t care less about whatever you’re up to. We have our own matters that brought us to the hospital.”
With his words, Mo Jingteng’s stern face visibly turned angry.
He was aware that this son of his never had a kind face for him.
Yet his blatant disrespect in front of others, was something Mo Jingteng, who was used to holding a superior position, couldn’t tolerate.
Mo Zixuan was silent, standing to the side.
When they approached, he stole a glance at Wen Ran, who had her fingers interlaced with Mo Xiuchen’s. Upon hearing their father-son exchange, there was no change in his expression, as if these matters had nothing to do with him.
Seeing Mo Jingteng get upset, Gu Kai quickly tried to smooth things over, “Xiuchen, you and Ranran go do your things first, I’ll come find you guys later. Uncle Mo, let’s discuss this inside rather than out here where there are so many people.”
Kangning Hospital was never deserted regardless of the time of year or the time of day. Many people constantly came and went.
Seeing this group of extraordinary individuals standing there engaging in conversation, many curious glances had already taken notice during this brief period. If they got into a dispute right here, wouldn’t they end up making headlines?
“Xiuchen, let’s go in.”
Wen Ran tugged at Mo Xiuchen. She knew that Mo Jingteng had always disliked her. His previous words made it abundantly clear that he didn’t welcome her involvement in his father-son affairs.
And she hardly had the mood or interest to get involved in their business.
“Alright, Ah Kai, Ranran and I are going ahead. Come find us later.”
Without giving Mo Jingteng another glance, Mo Xiuchen, hand in hand with Wen Ran, walked into the hospital. Their figures quickly disappeared from Mo Jingteng’s view.
His stern face turned pale then blue, then pale again. His emotions were in turmoil, and the hand holding his cane trembled slightly from the strain.
“Let’s go. The sooner we do this, the sooner we’ll have the results.”
Mo Zixuan uttered indifferently, walking into the hospital first.
After cursing the ‘two disobedient sons’, Mo Jingteng, helped by Ah Sen and accompanied by Gu Kai, also entered the hospital.

Stepping out of the elevator-
Mo Xiuchen could clearly feel Wen Ran’s emotional fluctuations.
His heart tightened. He looked at her with a deep, worried gaze, “Ranran, no matter what happens, I’ll always be holding your hand, staying by your side.”
Wen Ran bit her lower lip, forcibly restraining the emotions welling up inside her, and looked at him without saying a word.
Just as they were halfway there-
Wen Jin emerged from a ward.
He was seated on a wheelchair.
When he came out of the ward and saw them, his hands on the wheels of the chair hesitated for a moment, his gaze meeting Wen Ran’s with a complex mix of emotions.
Even though they were only a few meters apart, the dim morning light in the corridor made it hard to see each other’s faces clearly.
Regardless, Wen Ran clearly perceived the turbulent emotions in Wen Jin’s eyes. Her nose tingled with melancholy, her steps halting.
The man in the wheelchair, just a few meters away, was her closest relative. Yet, in the blink of an eye…
