Chapter 31: Assassination Mission

It was worth mentioning that in the current version of War, the level cap for players was Level 50. This meant that, at most, players could only reach Level 50, with 0 percent additional experience. There was actually not much difference between this and Level 49 with 99 percent experience; in the current version, players still could not learn Level-50 skills (although they could use Level-50 equipment).
The reason this was noteworthy was that based on the information revealed by the official game company, after players entered the realm of Level 50, their strength would increase substantially. This was also one of the excuses used by the official game company to reject nerfing monsters’ Strength. They explained that after breaking through Level 50, top-class players’ abilities might even reach a level where they were not any weaker than advanced monsters.
As such, for players, Level 50 was an important watershed for capability. Similarly, this same watershed applied to humanoid NPCs and humanoid monsters like the rebel army! So although the information from the Guards did not provide much detail on Harry Luden, the simple claim that he was a Level-55 Wind Manipulator made it clear to every player in the meeting room that this person was not an easy opponent.
Moreover, as a Commander, this person known as Harry Luden would definitely have a good number of rebel army soldiers protecting him. This mission was quite risky!
Although it was not good for players to speak loudly with each other in front of the NPCs in the meeting room, several players who knew each other still discreetly exchanged glances with one another, each having ideas of their own.
“Don’t worry, everyone,” said the captain. “Since this mission is not easy, our team of City Guards will provide you with our full support. Apart from commodities like bullets, potions, and other supplies, after completing this mission, you will receive the authority to exchange for some unique resources in Town of Exiles 1022!”
As if the captain knew what the players were thinking, he signaled to the assistant soldier beside him. The soldier nodded and extended both his arms to operate the optical computer in front of him.
Town of Exiles 1022 medal point exchange system unlocked. You can now view the exchangeable items.
A notification flashed past the eyes of the seated players, and the initially grayed-out “Exchange” option was now clickable.
Feng Luo clicked and entered, driven by his curiosity, and discovered there were certainly quite a lot of things within it.
SCN-Five (Military Knife). Grade: Fine. Destruction Coefficient: D+. Level Requirement: 40. Medal Point Exchange Requirement: 100.
Viper S7 (Combat Uniform). Grade: Fine. Level Requirement: 42. Medal Point Exchange Requirement: 120.
Eye of the Flying Eagle (Scope). Grade: Excellent. Level Requirement: 44. Medal Point Exchange Requirement: 340.
There were pieces of equipment above the Fine grade, supplies, and expendable items with amazing effects, as well as many rare materials that were impossible to obtain through normal missions. The system’s stockpile was indeed fat and rich. Even the military flares used by the Guards previously could be purchased using medal points.
However, the price is actually as high as 30 points per flare, thought Feng Luo, shaking his head. For an expendable item, that’s certainly too expensive.
Items from the system would definitely not be cheap. It was clear enough, based on the low credit amounts offered to players selling unwanted items to the system stores, just how crappy the prices offered by the system were. However, when Feng Luo selected the “Guns” option on the exchange page, the items that appeared before his eyes instantly attracted his gaze.
Eye of the Thunder (Stock) Blueprint. Medal Points Exchange Requirement: 400; First-Class Honorary Citizen of the Town of Exiles!
Eye of the Thunder (Magazine) Blueprint. Medal Points Exchange Requirement: 500; First-Class Honorary Citizen of the Town of Exiles!
Eye of the Thunder (Sniping Scope) Blueprint. Medal Points Exchange Requirement: 600; First-Class Honorary Citizen of the Town of Exiles!
Eye of the Thunder (Main Body) Blueprint. Medal Points Exchange Requirement: 1000; First-Class Honorary Citizen of the Town of Exiles!
The uniform-colored words “Eye of the Thunder” occupied four rows consecutively. It made Feng Luo’s heart race.
In the exchange option, there was actually the entire set of blueprints for the Eye of the Thunder!
Feng Luo’s breathing hastened. He never would have thought that there would be a possibility of directly exchanging for the full set of blueprints for the Eye of the Thunder. The value of the entire set of blueprints was ten times the value of the single gun barrel blueprint!
This was because a sniper rifle was considered an assembly weapon in War. A sniper rifle was made up of a stock, a gun barrel, a magazine, a sniping scope, and a main body—a total of five parts.
Individual parts could be installed onto other sniper rifles as long as the model fit or the part had been sufficiently modified by a gun mechanic. For example, if Feng Luo were to manufacture a gun barrel based on the Eye of the Thunder gun barrel blueprint, after modifying it, it could be used on the M110, and it would not affect the usage of the M110; its performance could even improve. However, this sort of mixing setup would most certainly decrease the performance of the sniper rifle in other areas to a certain degree.
The only thing was, the Eye of the Thunder gun barrel was part of a Rare-grade piece of equipment. Its attributes were far superior to that of the M110’s gun barrel, which was why even if it were to lower some attributes of other areas, the overall performance would still increase.
Compared to a mixture of parts, when all the parts of a sniper rifle came from the same complete set of blueprints, the attributes of the assembled gun would not decrease—on the contrary, they would increase substantially. In this regard, it was like a “full set of equipment!”
When Feng Luo saw the blueprint options for four Eye of the Thunder parts available on the exchange page, he clicked them and checked the 3D images of the parts. Seeing that they looked the same as the actual item, his heart skipped a beat! However, to obtain all of the blueprints for the Eye of the Thunder was no easy task. In terms of the combined medal point requirement for exchange, apart from the huge amount—2,500 to be exact—his contribution to the Town of Exiles also needed to reach “First-Class Honorary Citizen” as well.
This was a very demanding requirement!
Everyone knew that contribution was not easily obtainable. If Feng Luo hadn’t contributed so much to the destruction of the Tiger Robot and the killing of the Boss Beetle during the mission, his contribution level would certainly not have reached the “Second-Class” level. Using the other players in the meeting room as examples, most of them had probably spent a lot of time clearing missions before reaching the same level.
However, even though he was currently already a Second-Class Honorary Citizen, he was still a long way away from First Class, as the contribution level required to reach First-Class Honorary Citizen was ten times the amount needed to reach Second-Class Honorary Citizen! Which meant that unless Feng Luo blew up ten more Tiger Robots and helped kill another ten Boss Beetles, there was no way he could raise his contribution to the Town of Exiles to reach First Class in the short amount of time available. He could only do as the other players did and slowly clear missions in the Town of Exiles to build up his contribution until it satisfied the requirement before exchanging for the Eye of the Thunder pieces.
This matter sure is difficult!
Feng Luo was in a dilemma. He did not want to see the Eye of the Thunder parts that were right in front of him slip away. However, he couldn’t stay here and waste time completing missions to accumulate contribution points. Moreover, whether the Town of Exiles could be successfully defended was a problem in and of itself. Even if he were to work hard and increase his contribution, where would he go to purchase the items if the Town of Exiles disappeared?
But what the captain of the Guards said next cleared all the hesitation from Feng Luo’s mind.
“Oh yeah,” he said. “To show the importance of this mission to the higher-levels, the exchange authority of the person who delivers the killing blow to Harry Luden will temporarily move up a level. Additionally, there will also be a bonus of a unique reward. So, everyone, I hope that you will do your best.”
This statement from the captain of the Guards was undoubtedly an immense motivation to the players!
“It is our honor to serve the Federation!”
“It is our duty to protect the Town of Exiles!”
“We have zero tolerance for the rebel army!”
Each and every one of the players instantly became psyched and excited.
