Chapter 66
Chapter 66
C66 – Loong Chen Arrived
“Zhou Daxiong, what on earth are you doing?”
Bai Xiaohan’s face drained of color as Senior Xiong hurled Loong Kui toward the approaching group of Orcs.
Instinctively, she moved to rush to Loong Kui’s rescue, but Zhou Daxiong firmly gripped her arm.
“Have you lost your mind? Let her divert the Orcs’ attention; that way, we can make our escape!”
Zhou Daxiong reasoned.
Bai Xiaohan shot back, her anger flaring, “You’re the one who’s gone insane! If it weren’t for Loong Kui using her extraordinary abilities to save you, those Orcs would’ve torn you apart. Yet now, you’ve committed such an act against her. Do you even possess any humanity?”
Her glare bore into Zhou Daxiong.
Initially, when the Orcs had launched their assault, the two of them had found refuge under the protection of the Dongfang Academy’s Dean. Shockingly, Zhou Daxiong had fled to their hideout.
Bai Xiaohan had recently evolved to Level 1, while Loong Kui had awakened the Psychic Superpower. Together, they had managed to eliminate several Orcs, ultimately saving Zhou Daxiong.
However, this heroic act had painted a target on their backs, with more than a dozen Orcs now pursuing them.
Little did they know that their selfless kindness would be repaid with Zhou Daxiong’s ingratitude.
In the face of Bai Xiaohan’s accusatory words, Zhou Daxiong remained utterly unrepentant.
When it came to life and death, morality held no sway!
“If you’re not inclined to join us, then so be it. If you wish to meet your end, I won’t follow suit.”
With a cold snort, Zhou Daxiong paid no further heed to Bai Xiaohan and prepared to make his escape.
Bai Xiaohan observed the Orcs drawing nearer to Loong Kui. After a brief moment of hesitation, she clenched her teeth and charged toward Loong Kui.
“We’ve got a delectable meal!”
“We must devour them swiftly!”
“The flesh of Evolvers and Awakened individuals is bound to be more flavorsome than that of regular folks.”
When the dozen or so Orcs witnessed Loong Kui falling to the ground, greed overcame them.
They had previously witnessed Loong Kui’s remarkable abilities. Had these Orcs…? Until now, they had only feasted on ordinary people and had never encountered Awakened individuals.
Loong Kui observed the approaching Orcs. She attempted to rise and escape but realized that her ankle had been sprained.
The preceding battle had drained her spiritual energy, rendering her unable to employ her Psychokinesis Superpower for defense.
“Kui, I’ll shield you. Run!”
Just as Loong Kui felt hopelessness creeping in, a delicate voice resounded.
Loong Kui’s eyes brimmed with tears as she saw Bai Xiaohan stepping in to confront the dozen or so Orcs.
“Another morsel has arrived. Looks like she’s an Evolver!”
With Bai Xiaohan’s arrival, the Orcs grew even more jubilant.
Witnessing Bai Xiaohan on the brink of being overrun by the Orcs, Loong Kui couldn’t contain her tears.
Suddenly, her pendant caught her eye.
“Elder brother.”
Loong Kui clutched at what seemed like her last hope, genuine joy welling up inside her.
She tugged on the pendant forcefully, causing it to shatter upon impact with the ground.
A radiant five-pointed star formation began to materialize on the ground.
“Is my end approaching?”
Unaware of this, Bai Xiaohan, faced with the encroaching Orcs, wore an expression of hopelessness.
As a Level 1 Evolver with limited combat experience, she was ill-prepared for this dozen-strong Orc group.
She simply couldn’t compete with them head-on.
However, surrendering without a fight wasn’t an option. She needed to buy Loong Kui more time to escape, at the very least.
Bai Xiaohan yelled out and attempted a kick, but her ankle was swiftly caught by a bearish Orc.
“She smells delicious. Young flesh is indeed more savory.”
Saliva dripped from the corner of the bear-like creature’s mouth as it effortlessly brought Bai Xiaohan down.
Bai Xiaohan stared at the gaping maw of the gigantic bear, her expression morphing into sheer terror.
“Is my end near?”
Strangely, as she faced her impending demise, a figure suddenly appeared in Bai Xiaohan’s thoughts.
The silhouette before her wasn’t that of her parents; instead, it belonged to a young man about her age. His towering 1.8-meter frame appeared colossal in her eyes.
In the next instant, that very figure materialized right in front of her. The image she had held in her mind and the reality before her merged seamlessly.
“Could this be a mirage? Farewell, Senior Loong Chen.”
Tears welled up in Bai Xiaohan’s eyes, and two streams trickled down her cheeks. She had initially believed the figure before her to be a mere illusion.
Senior Loong Chen was presently at the Dragon God Temple. How could he be here?
Bai Xiaohan shut her eyes, preparing for the embrace of death.
Yet, half a minute passed.
Although Bai Xiaohan couldn’t sense any pain, the pitiful cries of the Orcs reached her ears. She quickly opened her eyes and peered around.
Suddenly, she was dumbfounded.
Amidst the throng of Orcs stood a teenager of about 15 or 16.
Each punch, each palm strike, and every swing of his weapon spelled the end for an Orc.
It brought to mind the days she spent in Death City, where this very figure had slain Liu Zhe and saved her.
“It’s Senior Loong Chen! This isn’t an illusion!”
Overwhelmed with joy, Bai Xiaohan cried out. By now, Loong Kui had reached her side.
“Xiaohan, are you alright? My brother has come to our rescue. We’re safe now.”
Loong Kui swiftly extended her hand to assist the weeping Bai Xiaohan to her feet.
Loong Chen’s fist connected with the last werewolf’s skull, producing a deafening impact.
A decapitated wolf’s lifeless body collapsed to the ground, joining the ranks of over ten headless corpses.
“Picking up done! Obtained Strength attribute*30.”
“Picking up done! Obtained Speed attribute*60.”
“Picking up done! Obtained Defense attribute*50.”
“Picking up done! Obtained Empirical Value*2500.”
These dozen or so Orcs possessed strength equivalent to Level 1 zombies and mutated beasts. After Loong Chen defeated them, the attributes he gained were comparable to the experience points and attributes of the zombie-like mutated creatures.
“Elder brother.”
Loong Kui threw herself into Loong Chen’s arms, embracing him tightly.
Loong Chen still felt a lingering sense of dread. Luckily, he had arrived just in time; otherwise, his sister might have been in grave danger.
Bai Xiaohan gazed at the siblings with a wistful expression, her envy evident. She had once had a brother as well.
“Xiaohan, thank you.”
Loong Chen noticed the sorrowful Bai Xiaohan nearby and approached her, speaking gently.
As he emerged from the spatial portal, he had witnessed Bai Xiaohan valiantly defending Loong Kui against the Orcs.
Although he hadn’t witnessed the entire sequence of events, he had managed to piece together most of it. Moreover, Loong Kui had also filled him in, so Bai Xiaohan felt deeply thankful to her.
Without Bai Xiaohan buying those precious few seconds for Loong Kui, she might not have made it in time.
Occasionally, a single second could stretch into eternity.
“Senior Loong Chen, I made a promise to you that I’d ensure Kui’s safety. Even if it costs me my life, I won’t let any harm befall her.”
Bai Xiaohan promptly affirmed.
“No, none of you should come to harm.”
Loong Chen shook his head, and Bai Xiaohan’s face lit up with eagerness.
Did Senior Loong Chen actually care for her?
“By the way, please tell me quickly what unfolded in Jinling City?”
“And what are these beings that resemble humans but aren’t quite human?”
