Chapter 109
Chapter 109
C109 – Nightmares
“They’re from elsewhere.”
Loong Chen raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t question Wells’s statement.
After all, certain extraterrestrial races had the ability to disguise themselves as humans, such as the Blood Race.
Unless they voluntarily revealed their true identities, discovering who they really were could prove exceedingly challenging.
Just as Loong Chen was about to inquire further, several robust men approached.
One of them roughly shoved Wells aside, yet Wells refrained from displaying any hint of anger.
“Are you interested in participating in our scheme?”
A burly man with a scar on his face suddenly inquired.
“What kind of scheme?”
Loong Chen asked nonchalantly, though he remained cautious.
After all, if Wells had spoken the truth, these individuals were not human.
“A prison break!”
Scarface uttered in a hushed tone, prompting Loong Chen to narrow his eyes.
“This facility is heavily fortified. How do you plan to escape?”
“I can’t disclose that, but I am absolutely certain. Would you like to join us?”
Scarface chuckled and spoke.
“If you’re not going to be clear about it, then let’s forget it. I don’t want to become a pawn in someone else’s game.”
Loong Chen gave a nonchalant smile and responded casually.
After pondering for a moment, Scarface remarked, “Tonight, someone will come to our rescue. We just need to cooperate when the time comes.”
“Do you want to be a part of it?”
“Alright, count me in.”
Loong Chen scratched his head and nodded. Scarface and the brawny men returned to their original positions.
“Boss, why did you reveal the plan to him?”
A sturdy man asked, puzzled.
“He effortlessly defeated Wells. His strength is at least at Level 5. With his assistance, our plan’s chances of success are higher.”
“Besides, if things go south, we can use him as a shield to deflect the bullets.”
Scarface smirked, and his companions offered their praise.
Watching Scarface and the others depart, Wells hastily approached Loong Chen.
“I advise you not to get tangled up with them.”
Wells spoke in a hushed tone.
“Why?”
Loong Chen asked casually.
“They’re not human; they’re Werewolves. Their scheme involves having Werewolf experts arrive tonight to rescue them, but we’ll end up being mere pawns in their game.”
Wells quickly interjected.
“You’re the one they’ll use, and that’s because you’re too feeble; they’ll opt to abandon you.”
“But I’m different. In their eyes, I possess enough strength and value to be exploited. Unless I have no other option, I won’t become cannon fodder. You’re saying this to persuade me to align with your side, aren’t you?”
Loong Chen easily discerned Wells’ intentions, leaving Wells feeling uneasy.
Ignoring the embarrassed Wells, Loong Chen closed his eyes, preparing for the anticipated escape plan later that night.
Naturally, his true goal extended beyond mere prison escape. With his exceptional spatial talent, he could easily depart from this place.
He harbored other objectives.
Time swiftly elapsed, and night descended.
The dungeon’s security was formidable, with Elf archers and warriors maintaining ceaseless patrols.
Within such rigorous security measures, not even a fly could escape notice.
Nevertheless, a few elusive figures managed to slip through undetected.
Each time these shadows passed by an Elf guard, they left behind a lifeless body.
In the dungeon, Loong Chen, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them and focused on the iron door.
At that precise moment, several peculiar entities shrouded in black fog materialized before the door.
“The Werewolves have actually brought in a formidable warrior from the Nightmares.”
Wells also spotted those dark silhouettes and was taken aback.
“Nightmares?”
Loong Chen was mildly surprised. Sensing Loong Chen’s curiosity, Wells offered a direct explanation.
“The Nightmares are a distinct race. Their combat prowess might be average, but they excel in stealth and assassination. They’re essentially born assassins.”
Another alien race had entered the picture, making it the third alien race that Loong Chen had encountered, in addition to the Werewolves and the Blood Race.
In the face of the impending apocalypse, the true peril lay not in zombies or mutated creatures but in these non-human entities.
They aimed to seize dominion over the world from the human race.
“Quickly open the dungeon. We might be discovered.”
At that very moment, a chilling voice resounded, and the Nightmares creatures launched an assault on the iron door.
The iron gate, capable of withstanding Evolver attacks, was unquestionably constructed from extraordinary materials.
Nevertheless, these Nightmares creatures managed to break it open within a few minutes.
“Let’s move!” Scarface cried out, and the group hastily made their way out.
Loong Chen also fled. After a brief hesitation, Wells decisively joined the escape.
However, before they could exit the dungeon, a frigid voice rang out.
“Now that you’ve all arrived, there’s no need to depart. Everyone, stay right here.”
As the voice faded away, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed.
A multitude of Elf archers and warriors formed an impassable barrier at the dungeon’s exit.
“Blast it, have we been exposed?”
Scarface swore, and everyone readied themselves for a fight in an instant.
The few Nightmares, experts in stealth, concealed themselves within the shadows, their forte being assassination.
“My Elves have always cherished peace. Even though you may covet the Ancient Life Tree, we’re left with no choice but to confront you. However, you repay our goodwill with violence, slaughtering several of my warriors!”
Standing before the Elven army was a strikingly beautiful woman wearing an icy expression.
She was the fairy whom Loong Chen had once glimpsed unclothed, and she appeared to be the Empress of the Elves.
“In that case, I’ll offer your blood as a tribute to my people.”
The Elf Queen’s voice resonated with fury as she directed her archers to prepare for action.
“Now that we’ve been discovered, let’s break through forcefully!”
Scarface bellowed, and the three robust men beside him roared in agreement.
In the following moment, before Loong Chen’s astonished eyes, they underwent a transformation.
Their bodies instantly enlarged, and a coat of black fur sprouted, turning them into formidable wolf-like creatures.
“Are they the Werewolves?”
Loong Chen found himself slightly taken aback. Upon transforming into werewolves, their power had clearly surged several-fold.
Particularly Scarface; it seemed he now possessed the fighting prowess of a Lord Class, while the other three were at Level 5 strength.
Loong Chen had previously encountered werewolves among the Orcs.
However, there existed a distinction between the two kinds of werewolves. The former were hybrids of human and wolf, whereas the latter could effortlessly shift between human and wolf forms.
Moreover, the transformed werewolves were even mightier.
“Attack!”
Scarface bellowed, prompting several werewolves to charge at the Elf warriors.
Numerous arrows were unleashed, but they barely made a dent in the werewolves’ defenses.
The Nightmares, too, infiltrated the midst of the Elves, launching a stealthy assault.
The Elf Queen, witnessing the loss of more of her kin, displayed a fury-laden countenance.
She summoned her lute once more, deftly plucking it to unleash a barrage of sonic attacks against the werewolves.
