Chapter 206: Another Person to Talk to
The police came knocking on Bai Yu's door the next morning. They had secured Bai Ye Qing's location and knew for a fact that he hadn't left the premises.
The door was actually opened by Chen Yue, who looked on in confusion as two uniformed police officers asked to see her husband.
"Is something wrong?" she asked resolutely even though worry seeped into her voice.
"We wish to speak to Mr. Bai Yu. Is he home?" one of the officers asked.
"He is. Is this something important? Did he do something wrong?" she asked. She was sure that wouldn't be the case. Bai Yu had always followed the rules. But what else could this be about? Maybe something related to a friend?
"This is confidential information, ma'am. We just want to talk to your husband." The officers were the pictures of calm.
She nodded, her worry mounting. "Yu!" she called over her shoulder.
A gruff-looking Bai Yu slowly made his way down the stairs and looked at the officers at the door. There was panic in his eye as he rushed forward.
"Did he hurt someone?" he said instantly.
The officer startled and they glanced at each other before shaking their head.
"Sir, this is about an urgent matter. Would you mind following us?" he asked.
Bai Yu nodded. "Do I need to sit in the police car or can I drive to the station myself?" he enquired.
"Your car is fine," the officer said quietly. He glanced towards the nervous Chen Yue and addressed her finally. "Ma'am, if you could follow us, that would be great," he said after a thought.
Chen Yue looked between the three men standing in front of her, hysteria getting the better of her.
"What is this about? I don't want to go!" she raised her voice.
The officers realized that this matter would be hard. Getting the parents in on a sting was difficult, which was why they needed to talk to them individually to evaluate if they wouldn't give out the mission.
Jia Ai had been a complete dud because she wanted to save herself and keep her face in front of her boyfriend. But these two… they needed to be spoken to.
Bai Yu turned to her. "Don't make a fuss. If the officers say that it is an urgent matter, we should get going. Don't run away with your thoughts," he grumbled.
Even in his home clothes, he was ready to personally drive to the station. This matter was not something to advertise to the community. They would soon know but making people know before something happened was a bad trick.
He pulled Chen Yue along and put her inside the car.
Just as he was about to take the driver's seat, he saw Chen Yue pulling her cellphone out to call someone. He leaped at her and took it out of her grasp.
"What do you think you are doing?" he hissed.
"I just wanted to call—" he interrupted her.
"Ye Qing?" he asked. Chen Yue couldn't even nod. "Don't even think about it. This is serious police business. Don't you know talking about such matters can get you jailed?" he told her quietly, his anger thinly veiled. "Telling your son everything isn't good. He left the house himself; he doesn't need to know about the people living in it, then."
He kept the phone in his lap until he was seated before switching it off. "I'll keep this until we know what the police want to talk to us about. They already said this was a confidential matter and we were not allowed to speak."
Chen Yue quietened down. As Bai Yu drove behind the police car, she had to speak up. "Were you seriously asking us to amicably separate?" she asked.
He hummed.
"Do you find it unbearable to live with me?"
He didn't respond. "You will come to realize that in old age, sleeping alone is better. You won't have to wake up because I have bad sleeping habits or don't turn off the lights until late. You'll find serenity in living alone. You need to find your own world apart from your son," he told her firmly.
"You're scaring me…" she trailed off.
Bai Yu sighed. "Whatever the police tell you, you are not allowed to speak of it to others. Not even your son or your family members."
Chen Yue nodded. "I understand," she responded immediately. "What do you think this is about?"
"I don't know," he responded shortly. "I already called my lawyer in, he will be at the station for both of us. Listen to him well and don't talk out of turn," he said as they pulled into the station.
They were led into the interview rooms where both of them spoke about their son and what they knew. Bai Yu was transparent, telling them everything he knew and what he suspected his son had done.
The officer pursed his lips. "We have been tailing your son for some unrelated matters and found him receiving drugs."
Bai Yu nodded. "Yes, I have heard that he has a drug problem. How bad is it?" he asked.
"Sir, these are not medications to get high on. This medication can lead to death if administered wrong."
Bai Yu became silent.
"But it looks like you knew something of this sort."
He nodded. "Due to some personal and professional events, my son was forced to leave the company. As such, he has two potential targets. One of whom is me," he stated clearly. There was not a shred of fear in his voice.
The officer watched him closely. "Who is the other person? Do they know they are in bodily harm?" he asked.
"It's Miss Yun… The CEO of Venus. She is the one who asked me to be on my guard."
The officer stiffened. This had suddenly turned graver than before. "Miss Yun Qian Meng? She knows of this matter?" he asked.
Now, they had another person to talk to.
