Chapter 230: Palkus’ Journey! Pause

Chapter 230: Palkus’ Journey! Pause

"Ara, if it isn't Palkus." Emily's mother, Emiliana, was surprised to see that Palkus had visited their house on a weekday. Emily was still working, so she was the only one home; even her youngest daughter had school to attend.

"Hello, Mother," Palkus greeted.

"What is it you want, son?" Emiliana, once again in the kitchen, focused on the task she had at hand and asked.

"Well, it's something quite important, so please don't mind and continue what you're doing. After you're done, we can talk," Palkus said. Then, the young man went towards the couch and sat comfortably.

"Nothing is too urgent for my daughter's future husband." Emiliana put whatever she had at hand down, meddled around a bit in the kitchen, and brought some snacks and elven tea.

"So? Is today the day?" Emiliana put the plate on the table and sat right in front of Palkus with a smile on her face, expecting him to finally get serious about her daughter.

"Yes. We've been dating for a year now, and I can't keep this for long without easing her heart and mine too," Palkus confirmed.

"Mother Emiliana, I would like to marry your daughter," Palkus directly said.

"Ara, that's so sweet. I approve." Emiliana smiled sweetly and approved.

"Thank you," Palkus sighed and expressed his gratitude.

"You're the best husband my daughter could ask for, so of course, I will approve," Emiliana replied.

"So…" she added.

"Hmm?" Palkus looked at her smug face and felt danger.

"When's the wedding?" she asked.

"The wedding?" Palkus opened his eyes wide for a second.

"Of course, the wedding! You're marrying my daughter; we need a wedding," Emiliana nodded.

"Well, I still have some things holding me back, but seeing how things are now, it should be in two years at most," Palkus informed.

"Two years?!" Emiliana exclaimed. She thought it would be a few months at most.

"Yes. I want to make sure we have the best memories, so I will leave it as the last thing I do on this island. After our wedding, Emily and I will go to the Vampire Continent," Palkus nodded.

"Hmm…" Emiliana went deep in thought after hearing Palkus' words.

"What is it, Mother?" he asked.

"I don't think she will be able to follow you to the Vampire Continent," Emiliana looked back at him and informed.

"Why is that?" Palkus calmly asked.

"How old are you, son?" she asked.

"21." Although he didn't understand what his age had to do with this, he still replied.

"Same age as my daughter," Emiliana nodded. "You see, son, when my husband, Maximilian, left us... he told me not to tell our daughter about him until she's 25 years old. However, that little girl is stubborn, and sometimes she's so mysterious I fear she might know the truth before I even have the chance to tell her." Emiliana dropped a bomb.

"So he's not dead?" Palkus raised an eyebrow.

"No," Emiliana shook her head with a pained expression.

"I see," he nodded. "Worry not, Mother. I will make sure that Emily will have nothing to worry about for the rest of her life, and that includes making sure you do too," Palkus stated.

"I will try my best to keep Sir Maximilian in mind too. If by some coincidence I meet him, I will inform you," he said.

"Ara, you don't have to do that." As pained as she seemed to be, Emiliana still smiled happily.

"Well, that's about it. I will not keep you busy more than this. I will be back on the weekend once again," Palkus tried to get up and leave, but then the scary air he so feared permeated around the room once again.

"Son…" Turning around slowly, Palkus managed to gaze upon the scary smile Emiliana had on her face.

"Y-yes, Mother?" he asked.

"Are you sure you want to leave?" she asked, her eyes looking straight at the plate that was still full of snacks.

"Ah…" Finally realizing his mistake, Palkus sat right back and proceeded to eat slowly. The fear he had changed into delight when the deliciousness of the snacks, followed by the warm tea, filled his mouth.

"You really know how to make snacks, as always, Mother," Palkus complimented.

"Fufu, right?" Emiliana, who had long gotten up from her seat and was back in the kitchen cleaning the dishes, smiled and replied proudly.

Time passed, and of course, after informing the mother of taking her daughter's hand in marriage, the person in question had to be informed too. Thus, after coming back to the house the next weekend, Palkus sat close to Emily and informed her of his plan for their next date.

Emily was slightly surprised because they never went to the mountains. But the young man was cooking something spectacular. Emiliana heard everything from her domain, the kitchen, with a smile on her face, while little Amy stood next to her and watched as Emily laughed happily with a wide smile from time to time.

The days went by, and the day of the date finally arrived.

"Huff, we're finally here." Standing atop clouds on the tip of the mountain, overseeing all life, Emily and Palkus had finally reached their destination.

Was the young man going to propose now? Was he going to get on his knees and bring out the finest piece he had ever forged to this day?

Think again. They were supernatural beings. Palkus was a Chaos Golem, an anomalous existence that shouldn't exist, an entity made by someone, a demon that common sense could not fathom.

Why would he settle for something so mediocre?

"Emily…" Palkus called.

"Yes?" Emily turned to look at Palkus, who was behind her, and with the sweetest smile he had ever mustered, Palkus stretched his hand.

"Hold my hand," he said.

"Mhm." Not able to voice any words from how handsome her boyfriend seemed at that very moment, the young lady could only nod and hold his hand.

Out of nowhere, the couple started floating. Palkus looked into Emily's eyes, and Emily looked into his.

They floated and floated; strings of law flew out of the young man's body and surrounded them. Magical phenomena started happening around them. Emily's favorite animals, cats, appeared and danced around them. Trumpets appeared and played by themselves, and a lovely symphony that would be etched in one's mind for weeks on end reverberated.

"Wow, this is so beautiful." Not yet understanding the reason behind all this and just thinking of it as Palkus going the extra mile to make this date enjoyable, Emily just enjoyed the scenery with a smile.

Being by her beloved's side these days was more than enough. Palkus was her respite from the hardships of life and work. The stress, the fatigue, the anxiety, and everything that came with life left as easily as it came the second she glanced at this young man's face.

It was magical. It was unnatural. It was strange. But she loved it.

Emily wasn't dumb; in fact, she was too smart, smarter than she let on. This was a fact Palkus caught on to too quickly. Even now, she was suspecting something but let out nothing. She knew how love was supposed to be. She had heard everything she needed to know, and a girl's curiosity knew no bounds.

The number of romance books she had read throughout the years was also unholy.

She knew that it wasn't supposed to be like this. That Palkus was special. That something about him was so breathtaking that common sense didn't work.

She chose this young man as her partner and wanted nothing but to be by his side for eternity to come. She was young, and she knew that life in front of them was far too long and that they could enjoy each other's company through experiences no mortal could dream of.

And she was ready to go through them from beginning to end if it meant seeing his face every day, waking up by his side, and holding his hand.

Life, death, love, hate. Everything seemed so little in front of this couple. Their connection transcended everything, and their gaze seemed free of worries, as if nothing could stop them from being together.

"Emily…" he called once again.

"Yes, Palkus," she replied.

The trumpets grew louder, the symphony reached a climax, and the magical phenomena converged in front of their eyes, obstructing them from looking at each other.

"Will you marry me?"

-----End-----
