And beyond the visible security personnel, there were also many bodyguards disguised as customers patrolling the lobby.
After they completed the check-in at the front desk, they followed the elevator to their room.
The moment they entered, everyone was stunned.
It wasn’t so much that the room was luxurious or the decor exquisite, but rather the entire wall facing the door was made of transparent tempered glass, housing all sorts of fish.
At first glance,
it felt just like being in an aquarium.
Lin Xiaoxiao excitedly ran over and stretched out her arms, playfully interacting with the various large fish inside.
Lin Mo’s lips twitched as he couldn’t help saying, “The capitalists sure know how to enjoy themselves, little sis, did you book the room just for this wall?”
“I had no idea.” Lin Siyu also shook her head as she followed, “I didn’t see any pictures; they recommended this room after I called… this is indeed too cool!”
A few ordinary blue-collar workers from Grand Xia Country were experiencing the corrosion of capitalism for the first time.
After admiring the fish in front of the tempered glass for a while, Lin Mo looked at his wife beside him and asked everyone, “Are you all tired? Should we go to sleep for a bit, or head out to look around?”
Li Jinwen shook her head.
Lin Siyu spoke up, “I’m not tired, let’s go out! We rarely come to New York, and we need to adjust to the time difference anyway. It’s best to sleep according to the local time for our health.”
Zhang Li also shook his head.
Lin Mo asked his daughter, “What about you, girl? Are you thinking of staying in the room, or going out for a stroll?”
“I want to be with Dad, Mom, and Auntie.” Lin Xiaoxiao didn’t appear tired in the slightest.
After all, during the 20 or so hours on the plane, most of them had been resting and weren’t very sleepy.
What more was there to say,
the family changed their clothes, put on masks, and left the hotel.
Wearing masks wasn’t about hiding their faces but rather because the air here really didn’t smell that great. Lin Mo couldn’t smell the sweet air at all but could pick up on a bit of a sewer smell from the road.
Another reason was to avoid infections in crowds.
Under Lin Siyu’s lead, they picked up the rental car, and the family began touring one sight after another.
There were many people,
and tourists from various countries were quite enthusiastic. Even though they couldn’t understand each other’s languages, there were still plenty of smiles.
However, when it came to eating, they encountered a significant problem.
It was too sweet.
Sweet to the point of being cloying.
Whether it was hamburgers, so-called Chinese food, or street snacks, the sugar content was definitely over the top.
Compared to these foods, the sweet and sour fish they ate by West Lake was considered a delicacy.
The Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, Times Square…
These bustling landmarks were more or less in adjacent blocks, and since Lin Mo and his family were just taking a cursory look without understanding the historical significance, with just a few photos taken, they soon finished their tour.
They dared not venture further out since it was already evening. Looking out, it was pitch-dark with very few lights, and it didn’t look safe at all.
Moreover, Lin Mo had just received intel that a not insignificant number of Americans die from gunshots every year, and he had no interest in trying to experience that firsthand.
Beyond the lively blocks, what surprised Lin Mo the most was the ubiquitous protesting.
Sexual minorities, environmentalism, black rights, school bullying…
It seemed like on every block, there were people in different slogan-bearing clothes, carrying various banners, congregating and walking around.
Lin Mo highly suspected whether this was a recreational activity for the capitalist common folk after work, similar to the square dancing in Grand Xia.
They played until the wee hours of the morning before the family contentedly returned to the hotel.
Lin Siyu had booked a suite. Apart from the living room, there were four other rooms, accommodating the needs of the five of them.
Before returning to their respective rooms, Lin Siyu reminded everyone, “Go to sleep early, we’re going to Manhattan and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden tomorrow, so we definitely need to get up early.”
After saying this, she carefully asked, “Brother, our sightseeing isn’t interfering with your work, is it?”
Lin Mo smiled and replied, “Not at all. I’ll go to work after you’ve enjoyed yourselves. I want to enjoy this too.”
“However, the day after tomorrow, if you want to go out, you should go with Xing Jiang and your niece. I need to take your sister-in-law for a prenatal checkup.”
He hadn’t yet received much intelligence regarding stocks and wasn’t in a rush to go to Wall Street or the New York Stock Exchange—he’d prefer to have fun for a few days first.
There was no rush.
Returning to his room and after a quick wash, Lin Mo and Li Jinwen both lay down on the bed.
That night, Lin Xiaoxiao was sleeping with her aunt.
Lin Mo smiled and asked, “So, did you have fun?”
Li Jinwen nodded, “Yes, very much so. I never thought I’d get to travel abroad with you and our daughter one day, without having to worry about expenses.”
“Hehe, the good days are still to come.” Lin Mo smiled as he hugged Li Jinwen and continued, “The day after tomorrow we’re going to the hospital for a prenatal checkup, and they’ll tell us the baby’s gender here. You’ll soon know whether my guess was right.”
Li Jinwen gently nodded, and after a while, she asked, “Husband, if you’re busy, go ahead with your work. You don’t have to specifically accompany us on the trip. We can manage on our own; we don’t want to hold you back.”
Lin Mo laughed and said, “It’s really okay. Besides, even if I have to go and buy stocks, I’d need you to go with me since I don’t understand all that English.”
