Chapter 198 - Arriving In The Death Swamp
Chapter 198 - Arriving In The Death Swamp
Ban let his consciousness descend on the Dimensional Storage to check the new item reward.
He somehow knew already that it would be another insect related item but he wondered what kind of item it was this time.
'A shoes?'
Ban wanted to take it out but considering that the carriage he rented was an open one, he held back his urge first.
The Death Swamp was located on the Western side of the Eagle City and Southern side of the neighboring city, Falcon City. Unlike the other Beast-filled places that surrounded the Eagle City, the entrance of the Death Swamp was very far.
The monster pulling the carriage this time was a six-legged horse. It was a monster known for their swift speed and Ban especially chose it amongst the carriages available just so he could arrive in the Death Swamp faster.
However, even with the speed of the Six-legged horse, it still took them two hours and a half before they arrived in the area around the Death Swamp.
"This is the best I can take you, sir. Any more than this and I'm afraid we will encounter a vicious Beast already." The carriage driver stated.
Ban just nodded his head and paid 50 Silver Coins to him.
After the carriage driver left along with his monster, Ban and Eva also moved forward, towards the Death Swamp.
The Death Swamp, although was called a 'swamp' actually only has it's center as a swamp. The area around it was just muddy soils that can still be traveled with foot.
One will need to look out where they were stepping to, lest they step on some soft soils, making their foot sink to the bottom.
Ban took the map that he obtained from Kuys from before and started pinpointing his current location.
After he was done, he recalled the content of the information he won from Mr. Nian. The main material for the Giant Red Dragonfly egg was the nearest so it will be his first destination.
He already obtained the other auxiliary materials on the black market earlier and the only thing left was the main ingredient. After that, he can then immediately start the process of hatching the egg.
After determining the direction of that material, Ban wore the Ant Mask, the Nobble Moth Cloak, the Beetle Chest Armor, and Tiger Beetle Rapid Shoes, the newly acquired item
The Tiger Beetle Rapid Shoes were green-colored shoes. There was a dot pattern on the side of the shoes that seemed to pulsate some unknown energy on it.
It has an option of making him run faster, especially on flat terrains and or sandy areas such as lakeshores.
Ban felt that it was very light and he also could barely feel anything, as if he was not wearing any shoes.
It was strange at first but he managed to adjust to it after a while.
Ban also took the Poisonous Butterfly Dagger as well as the Twin Baton, placing them on each of his sides.
He did not let Eva transform to her combat form yet, but he reminded her that if something came up, she should immediately transform just to be safe.
After making all of the necessary preparations, Ban finally ran towards the direction that he set beforehand.
After some twist and turns, and after fifteen minutes of running, Ban finally arrived at his destination.
"A cave with four vines hanging above it… This should be it." Ban said as he glanced at the cave not far away from him.
The main ingredient he needed was the blood of a giant Beast, called Giant Wingbat.
The Giant Wingbat was only an F-Apprentice Rank Beast. They also lived in groups and would use their soundwaves to confuse and attack their enemy.
For Ban who was an E-Elite Rank and has the Skill of denying sound-based attacks, facing the Giant Wingbats was not a problem. The only thing he needs to look out for is when they try to attack together.
Eva doesn't have the same skill as him so he kept her inside his Beast Tattoo first. Although there's a chance that she might not be affected by the wingbats sound attacks just like when Emilia played that guqin, being careful was still not a bad choice.
Evan also did not oppose it as she entered the Beast Tattoo a moment later.
After resting for a few minutes and recovering his lost energy, Ban finally went inside the cave.
The Giant Wingbats were nocturnal Beasts, they are usually asleep during these hours so Ban was very careful on his steps as he searched for Giant Wingbats above the ceiling.
Fortunately, there were some holes on the ceiling, allowing light to illuminate the inside of the cave a little.
Sometime later, Ban finally saw a group of Giant Wingbats hanging upside down from the ceiling.
Ban immediately searches for a good spot before he formulated a plan to efficiently kill the bats.
The ceiling was high. Ban would only be able to reach it once he uses all of his strength to jump.
After thinking for a while, Ban finally thought of an idea.
He already obtained all the information regarding the Giant Wingbats from the book of techniques.
The Giant Wingbats are fruit-eating Beasts and are also known as bloodsucking Beasts at the same time.
Ban recalled the two people he killed earlier and thought that they would be the perfect bait.
After choosing a spot, Ban finally waved his hands and dropped the two bodies to the ground before running away from there. He then hides in the corner, waiting for the prey to notice the bait.
And a while later, Ban was not disappointed as one of the Giant Wingbats finally opened its eyes, revealing blood-red eyes that seemed to reflect on the darkness.
The Giant Wingbat twitched its head a dozen times, smelling the blood smell in the air.
Shriek!
It released an ear piercing scream a while later, awaking its remaining companions.
The three Giant Wingbats also responded with an ear-piercing scream, before they all flew towards the two dead bodies that Ban laid earlier.
