Chapter 57: The Scavengers

Chapter 57: The Scavengers

The lightning surge completely lighted up the area, with streaks of lightning extending to the skies. Nearby structures were ravaged by the threads of lightning that wildly hit everything within approximate vicinity.

"Sol do we go in now?" Alice asked, bringing out her gunblade. But, the response given to her was the complete opposite.

"Not a chance. We're leaving." Sol turned tail, moving quikcly down an alley with Alice catching up to him.

"Why are we running away?" Alice asked in confusion.

"I'll explain along the way. Don't fall behind." The boy mentioned.

The reason why Sol initiated the combination was not for them to continue attacking. The electric shock was powerful and, they would've surely killed one of the earth titans with the snipe. But that was just about it. Sol knew that there was too much of a power difference between him and the earth titans. Primarily because they didn't even take the summoners too seriously.

"We're just buying time. With all the commotion they caused, other titans would surely come to this area now. They wouldn't get lost because the light created by the electric explosion would've been seen."

"How do you keep coming up with all of this?" Alice was once again at a loss for words at how quickly Sol created a tactic for them to use.

"I'll tell you later. Where are your gunblades?" Sol began crouching down and Alice followed the motion.

"Wait, I thought we weren't supposed to engage?"

"Yeah, we aren't engaging against any team that could take us down in this situation." Alice immediately caught up with what Sol meant. With the boy smiling at her as he said.

"We're going to kill the two summoners that were able to escape."

There was a good reason why Sol was quick to act. The two didn't bring all of their equipment on the mission. Most of their stuff was left on another camp which they set up far from where they slept. This was to reduce the chances of them being trapped while also securing all of their items.

Bringing a minimal number of things with them assured that they could move swiftly and, could act faster since there were less things to place into consideration. All they had at that moment were primary and secondary weapons. Also bringing the aegis shield along the way. Together with this are a few items that could create either damage or distractions. One of these was the [Core] which had already been used on the earth titans.

"Do you even know where the summoners ran off to?"

"Yeah. People who run away are easier to catch because, their minds are a bit limited on options. They would either think where they could hide momentarily or, they could continue ruining until they are sure that the enemies can't catch them anymore."

"So which of the two did they choose exactly?" Sol placed his arm in front of Alice, making her abruptly stop from moving and almost losing her balance. She was just about to give Sol a piece of her mind when the boy placed a finger on his lips; signaling Alice to keep quiet.

They crouched a bit longer and, soon enough, by following Sol's eyes, Alice was able to see it. Hiding behind a half-demolished wall were the two remaining summoners. Heavily wounded and grasping for breath. They didn't seem to be in a fighting state anymore and, with all of their summons used up, they were simply prey for the two Void titans.

People may call Sol and Alice cowards. They might even say that they have neither honor nor dignity. But none of those things mattered for Sol. He has [Cold Blooded] and, adding this with his strategy wired his brain to thinking that all is fair in the art of war.

"This just feels so wrong Sol."

"Feelings won't bring us results Alice. Now aim at the one at the left." Sol said as his sniper rifle aimed at the head of the other titan. And with his word, they both pulled the trigger.

As all this commotion went on, a visitor came to King Reckon's chambers. With the first day done, all the monarchs were able to go back to their respective domains.

"So what do you think about those Void titans Kingsley?" The king began, feeling the presence of his mysterious aide.

"I think that they are impressive. To be able to do that despite being powerless is no joke. But all they have are brains and a bit of brawns. It's not what I am looking for."

The king walked towards his balcony. Watching his subjects who were busy with their daily lives.

"Someone influenced by the Shadoweaver will inevitably use shadow skills. These eyes of mine wouldn't lie and I saw no shadow skill from either of them." Kingsley said, walking in the shadows of the room.

"Just keep watching them. I'm sure you'll eventually get to see them use a skill of the sort."

"Are you ordering me around foolish king?" Kingsley asked, asserting his dominance over the ruler who was gaining back his youth due to the said helper's assistance.

"I'm simply suggesting Kingsley. No need to get mad about it." The king glanced back at his visitor before looking at the people again.

"You really are good with your words. So what did you think of my little gift?"

"I think that the other rulers may catch up soon but honestly I couldn't care less."

"Oh? You seem so confident now."

"Ha! Confidence has nothing to do with this! With you backing me up, there's no way I'm gonna lose."

"It's good that you're satisfied but, I hope you're not forgetting about the deal."

"Of course. I'll look for any signs of the Shadoweaver's movements throughout the Culling. And if she doesn't leave any trace, I'll simply search through every domain."

"You say that as if they'd let you in."

"They would. I'll win the culling after all." The king turned at that moment. There was a kind of confidence written on his face that didn't feel right anymore for Kingsley. He thought that the king would make for good sport for a long time but, with how quickly he was deteriorating, it was only a matter of time before Reckon also "transfigures".

"I'll be going then."

"Yes you must. I'll be watching all the fights closely." Kingsley looked at him one last time and, decided to give a little reminder for what it was worth.

"Careful old king, power tends to corrupt andabsolute power such as mine can corrupt you absolutely." The creature vanished in the shadows and, as soon as he did, a wide grin grew on the king's face.

"Corrupt? No you fool! I will rule all Domains and take the Seraphim's powers for myself."

"You will see. All of you will see!"
