Chapter 3297: Sequence Bases

Chapter 3297: Sequence Bases

Chapter 3297: Sequence Bases

Far away, atop a waterfall, Yuan Qi spoke with pride. "The biggest difference between my Spirit Nidus and your Tianyuan Megaverse is that your cultivation methods are too diverse. Throughout our history, every peak powerhouse from my Spirit Nidus has left their legacy behind for future generations to use. Successors don’t need to comprehend the laws of the universe themselves. They just need to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

"There’s no need to create anything new, as sequence particles are already the greatest power in the megaverse.

"The Law of Near and Far ranks thirty-fifth in my Spirit Nidus. Many people have cultivated this law over the years—seventy-seven in total. Most of them are long dead, but before they passed away, they contributed and poured their sequence particles into this Rivers and Mountains Painting to create the seventh-ranked sequence base.

"There are very few experts from your Tianyuan Megaverse who can actually resist the Rivers and Mountains Painting. That man is clearly not one of them. He hasn’t even entered the Origin Realm."

Forgotten Ruins God was stunned. "How can you leave behind a legacy of sequence particles? Is that even possible?"

A smile spread across Yuan Qi’s lips. "It is."

"Can someone who isn’t a sequence powerhouse actually cultivate sequence particles?"

"We have our methods. The Consciousness Megaverse failed because of the vast gap between us and them, and your Tianyuan Megaverse is no different," Yuan Qi stated confidently.

"What would happen if an Ortuser entered the painting?" Wang Xiaoyu suddenly asked.

Ortusers repelled the laws of the universe. The Rivers and Mountains Painting was filled with the sequence particles of seventy-seven sequence powerhouses, and it was supposed to overwhelm all enemies who entered it. However, such a thing would be useless against an Origin realm expert.

Yuan Qi glanced over at Wang Xiaoyu. "The Rivers and Mountains Painting ranks seventh."

Wang Xiaoyu was shaken. Seventh. This sequence base only ranked seventh, and yet Yuan Qi was someone who could fight against the Tianyuan Megaverse’s most powerful experts, such as Mister Mu.

Forgotten Ruins God praised, "Senior Yuan Qi, your Spirit Nidus should have come here sooner. So much time has been wasted."

Yuan Qi did not reply. Instead, he watched as Progenitor Chen used various abilities, though all in vain. It was as though the old man was toying with a rat.

"This man may be an expert in your Tianyuan Megaverse, but within my Rivers and Mountains Painting, he’s no better than a rat. Hmph, the rest of the Tianyuan Megaverse isn’t much better," Yuan Qi commented. While he spoke as though he were addressing Forgotten Ruins God and Wang Xiaoyu, his tone sounded more like he was speaking to himself.

In the distance, no matter what Progenitor Chen tried, everything proved futile. He was unable to escape, or even approach any of the mountains or rivers. The waterfall might as well have been infinitely far away, and the Progenitor’s sequence particles were drowned out the moment they appeared. He was simply surrounded by too many sequence particles. It was completely overwhelming.

Progenitor Chen stopped his attempts and looked around.

From the top of the waterfall, Yuan Qi called out. "My Spirit Nidus is far beyond your Tianyuan Megaverse. That is the only reason why I offered you a chance. If not for that, no one from this Tianyuan Megaverse would be worthy of becoming my disciple. If you don’t cherish this opportunity, you will die."

Progenitor Chen looked over at the waterfall. "Is this thing called the Rivers and Mountains Painting? Why didn’t I see it at the Immemorial Citadel?"

Yuan Qi did not reply.

"If your Spirit Nidus is really so powerful, why did you fight at the Immemorial Citadel’s battlefield for so many years? Even your bell was broken," Progenitor Chen continued to taunt the old man.

Yuan Qi’s voice grew cold. "My Spirit Nidus seeks to conquer more than just your Tianyuan Megaverse. We possess eighty-eight sequence techniques and ten sequence bases. You cannot fathom our power. We are not on the same level at all."

Progenitor Chen looked up with a smirk. "Old man, be careful not to bite your tongue while you brag."

Anger flickered in Yuan Qi’s eyes. A hand rose up, and a massive mountain appeared above Progenitor Chen before viciously slamming down onto the man.

There was a thunderous boom as Progenitor Chen fell. He struck the mountain with a palm, but it did not budge at all. It was not an ordinary mountain, as it was formed from countless sequence particles. Everything within the Rivers and Mountains Painting consisted of those same sequence particles.

The massive mountain pushed Progenitor Chen deep underground. Rivers twined about the mountain and buried him even deeper. Underground, there was no way to escape or dodge. Even the man’s own sequence particles were scattered, and Inverse Step was useless, even with the modification that allowed Progenitor Chen to travel parallel to time. Within the painting, the gap between near and far was insurmountable.

The mountain crushed the man, mangling his flesh. As the rivers washed over him, their water was stained red.

Yuan Qi was impressed. "Is he still alive? Most sequence powerhouses would have already perished. This man can back up his bold claim of challenging Yong Heng. While there is certainly a vast gap, he is undoubtedly one of the best combatants. Such a shame."

Suddenly, the mountain, rivers, and earth all vanished and were reduced to nothing. Progenitor Chen shot into the air, where he turned to face the distant waterfall, which he attacked with a palm strike.

Yuan Qi was startled. "How is this possible?"

He pressed through the void, and light erupted from the Rivers and Mountains Painting. Endless sequence particles filled the void, forming a wall that stretched from heaven to earth, and Progenitor Chen’s attack slammed into it.

The palm strike landed on the wall, but it was a wall formed endless sequence particles that all formed the Rivers and Mountains Painting. Mountains, rivers, and waterfalls all looked illusory at this moment. It was as though all seventy-seven sequence powerhouses had acted in unison; the wall was completely immovable.

Boom!

The world shook.

Yuan Qi stared in astonishment as the wall cracked. The once beautiful scenery disappeared entirely, and the nearby mountains and rivers all shattered as the earth turned pitch black. The sequence particles that formed the land were entirely gone.

Progenitor Chen let out a raucous laugh as he tore apart the sky of the Rivers and Mountains Painting and left. "Old man, I’ll see you around!"

Yuan Qi was furious. He took a step into outer space, only to see Progenitor Chen disappear. A moment was all it took for the man to vanish. It was due to his Inverse Step.

Yuan Qi clenched his teeth as he realized that he had greatly underestimated his opponent. Progenitor Chen had not escaped by using his own power, but rather by borrowing the sequence particles that made up the Rivers and Mountains Painting itself. That was the power of his final palm strike, and it defied all belief.

The Rivers and Mountains Painting was no longer a picturesque landscape. All that remained was a dark abyss and a broken wall.

Contempt filled Forgotten Ruins God’s eyes. Anyone who underestimated Xia Shang would meet a terrible end. The man had been one of the supreme powerhouses of his era in the Tianyuan Megaverse, and even True God had been impressed by Progenitor Chen’s talent for battle. Yong Heng had once said that, if Xia Shang were given enough time, there was no doubt that he would rise to stand at the pinnacle of the megaverse.

While Yuan Qi was certainly powerful and his Rivers and Mountains Painting was terrifying, it was incapable of restraining someone like Xia Shang.

Xia Shang’s escape meant that the Spirit Nidus would soon be forced to reveal itself to the Heavens Sect, dispelling some of the mystery that shrouded it.

The Sixverse Academy was a place where Lu Yin had once studied. It had been a hub for the Sixverse Association’s diverse cultivation methods to come together, and it had since become the premiere educational institution of the megaverse.

Seven years ago, when the Infinity Empire had first discovered the Origin Universe, Lu Yin had ordered the Heavens Sect to hold a grand competition, with the goal of unearthing talented individuals so that the next generation of elites could be raised up.

The Sixverse Academy had since become the training grounds for those who had stood out during the competition.

The Void Institute had some of the most talented Explorer-realm cultivators from across the Sixverse Association. These people were from various parallel universes connected to the Sixverse Association. Some of the students, such as Yu Leng, came from completely unaffiliated parallel universes.

Yu Leng hailed from a very ordinary parallel universe; it did not even have its own cultivation method. The strongest people on his planet were only Limiteers, and they were unable to even leave the planet.

He had been fortunate enough to stumble upon the legacy of a powerful cultivator, and that legacy had allowed him to quickly become an Explorer, making him the most powerful person on his home planet. However, when his legacy’s resources had run out, Yu Leng had been forced to tear through the void and search for another place where he could continue cultivating.

Lacking even the most basic understanding of the universe, Yu Leng had had no idea just how dangerous it was to randomly tear through the void and enter an unknown universe. His strength meant that he was nothing more than an ant in the scope of the entire megaverse.

However, his luck had held, and he had arrived in the Sixverse Association. The legacy of the powerful cultivator granted Yu Leng a decent standing amongst his peers, and he had even managed to earn a place in the competition. Compared to the countless people who had been eliminated, Yu Leng could be regarded as favored by destiny.

Still, he had been one of the lowest ranked Explorers in the competition. Many had surpassed him. Fortunately, his progress remained swift, and the legacy that he had received allowed him to continuously surpass others. After he arrived at the Sixverse Academy, he had successfully drawn a rare card in the Lost Institute, acquired a tri-colored fruit from the Wood Institute, and learned powerful battle techniques. As a result, he quickly made a name for himself. However, his progress had also created various conflicts.

Bang!

The ground cracked as a person slammed into the earth. They could not stop themselves from spitting up blood.

A crowd gathered, many watching with schadenfreude.

"Yu Leng, are you still so arrogant?" someone shouted excitedly.

"A worthless nobody who doesn't even know where to find his own universe dares to act arrogantly in the Sixverse Academy?"

"Blind fool…"

Yu Leng gritted his teeth as he lay on the ground and looked forward. There was a man in front of him, and that man was smiling arrogantly as he looked down upon Yu Leng.

"Do you even know who I am?" the man asked as he towered over the fallen man.

Yu Leng glared up at the man. Resentment and humiliation filled his eyes. "Xu Kang."

Xu Kang sneered. "I’m from the Voidforce Universe’s Void Yang clan. I was trained by Patriarch Xu Heng himself! I ranked in the top 30 Explorers during the recent competition. Just who do you think you are? I reached out my hand to help you, and you have the audacity to refuse?

"You think we don’t know? You stumbled upon some legacy, but at best, it’s from some Semi-Progenitor. The fact that you’ve made it this far is pure luck. Sure, you’ve got a bit of talent, but do you really think that I care?

"I’m from the Void Yang clan! Our patriarch, Xu Heng, is a peak powerhouse! With the Void Yin clan, we control the entire Voidforce Universe! This Void Institute might as well be my own home, and yet you dare to show me that sort of attitude? Pathetic."

Yu Leng clenched his hands into fists as he ducked his head in order to hide the hatred blazing in his eyes.

"Brother Xu Kang, I don’t think he’s convinced yet. He probably thinks that his little Semi-Progenitor legacy is impressive. Why don’t you take a look at it and see just what he’s trying to hide?" someone suggested.

Yu Leng’s heart sank.

Others chimed in, "That’s right, Brother Xu Kang."

"Come on, Brother Xu Kang, let’s all see it. We’re curious."

One person hesitated. "Isn’t that just outright robbery?"

"This is the world of cultivators, where the law is survival of the fittest. So what if we take it from him? If he has the guts, why doesn’t he try to rob us," another scoffed.

Yu Leng gritted his teeth. He looked up and happened to meet Xu Kang’s eyes. Laughter danced in Xu Kang’s eyes.

That playful, mocking look stirred a powerful hatred inside of Yu Leng.

"Hahaha! Look at you! What are you so scared of? Do you really think that I, Xu Kang, would steal your worthless legacy? Look at him, sneaking glances at me. It’s pathetic! Hahaha!"

"Hahaha!"

"Haha…"

The laughter grew louder, and Yu Leng’s mind went blank. This feeling of having his pride trampled upon drove him to the edge of madness. He accessed his cosmic ring and removed a jade-colored orb the size of a human head. It consisted of nine smaller orbs. The orb's beauty was accentuated by the translucent jade.

The sight of the orb piqued everyone’s curiosity. Was this the legacy that Yu Leng had picked up?
